Málaga province stretches across 7,308 square kilometres of southern Spain, where the Sierra de las Nieves — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — rises to 1,919 metres at its peak, Torrecilla. From the dramatic El Caminito del Rey walkway pinned to the walls of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes gorge to the ancient Roman theatre in Málaga city, this province packs centuries of history into every corner. The coastline alone runs for over 160 kilometres along the Costa del Sol, while inland, the whitewashed village of Ronda sits perched above the 100-metre-deep El Tajo gorge. The distance from Málaga city to Ronda is roughly 100 kilometres, and from Málaga to Nerja — home to the famous prehistoric caves — it is around 55 kilometres heading east along the coast. Travelling by campervan lets you connect these contrasting landscapes at your own pace, winding from beach towns through olive groves and up into mountain passes. The roads are well-maintained and suited to both campervans and motorhomes, with plenty of service areas along the way. Through Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across the province, choosing from a wide range of vehicles to match your travel style. This peer-to-peer approach means more flexibility, competitive pricing, and the chance to get insider tips from people who know Málaga province best.
Málaga province enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year, making it a rewarding destination in every season. Spring brings the Semana Santa processions in March or April, filling Málaga city with elaborate floats and music. The Feria de Málaga in August is a week-long celebration with flamenco, food stalls, and fireworks along the coast. Autumn and winter are ideal for exploring inland routes around Ronda and Antequera with fewer fellow travellers on the road. Yescapa's peer-to-peer model often means better rates outside peak summer months, so hiring a campervan in spring or autumn can be especially good value. Book a few weeks ahead for summer trips to secure the vehicle that suits you best.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Extend your trip beyond the province: from Málaga city through Nerja and Almuñécar to Salobreña on the Costa Tropical, then return via the mountain road through Alhama de Granada. Around 550 km, ideal for 7 to 10 days. The mix of coastline and mountains makes this route especially varied. Campsites are available along both stretches of coast.
Use Málaga as your starting point for a grand Andalusia loop: via Ronda to Cádiz, on to Seville, Córdoba and back through Antequera. Around 650 km across four provinces, perfect for 10 to 14 days. Motorways are toll-free and well maintained. Along the way, olive groves, river valleys and historic cities alternate — a road trip that captures the full diversity of southern Spain.
Start in Ronda and drive through the white villages of Grazalema and Zahara de la Sierra before looping back via Setenil de las Bodegas. Around 120 km through mountain scenery in Málaga province, perfect for a campervan. Small parking spots and viewpoints over deep gorges dot the route.
From Vélez-Málaga, wind through the Axarquía via Comares and Frigiliana to Nerja. Around 90 km through subtropical valleys and hill villages in Málaga province. Roads are narrow, so a campervan is the best choice. Stop at the Cueva de Nerja for an underground adventure.
Drive the full Málaga province coastline from Nerja through Torre del Mar, Málaga city, Torremolinos and Fuengirola to Estepona. Around 350 km with detours to beaches and fishing villages. Wide coastal roads suit a motorhome perfectly, and campsites sit right by the sea along the way.
Combine coast and hinterland: from Málaga city via Antequera and El Torcal to Ronda, then south to Marbella and back along the coast. Around 400 km through the most diverse landscapes of Málaga province. Suitable for both campervan and motorhome. Plan stops at the Torcal de Antequera and the Caminito del Rey.

Málaga province offers campsites for every taste — from beachfront pitches along the Costa del Sol to peaceful spots in the mountains around Ronda. Most sites provide electric hook-ups, shower and toilet blocks, and service points for motorhomes and campervans. Coastal sites often include pools and restaurants, while inland options reward you with nature and tranquillity.
Spain's motorway network in Málaga province includes both free and toll roads. The AP-7, running along the Costa del Sol, is now toll-free, making coastal travel straightforward. The A-7 Mediterranean motorway also connects key towns without charges. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3,500 kg are 90 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on conventional roads. Rest areas with services appear regularly along the main routes. Mountain roads inland — particularly around the Serranía de Ronda — feature tighter bends and gradients, so allow extra time if driving a larger vehicle. Fuel stations are plentiful along the coast and in larger towns, though less frequent in rural mountain areas.
Fantastic time had traveling in Lanzarote in Gonzalo and Saray's campervan - highly recommended👍🏻👍🏻 and brilliant hosts/ owners. We are a family of 4 ( 2 adults & 2 teenagers ( 16 & nearly 13) and the van was a perfect size for us all. We had no issues at all from start to finish. We were picked up and dropped off at the airport by Saray and Gonzalo- a massive benefit. The handover which was just a few minutes drive from the airport was hassle free and all our questions were answered. We were on our way within 30 minutes. The owners were really responsive thoughout our rental and even checked in with us after the first night to make sure everything was going well. The van itself was very clean, tidy, as described and pictured on the site. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and dishes and even had the basics needed for cooking and cleaning, which is always a real help. There was also freshly cleaned beach towels, ben linen and also towels for showers etc. There was plenty of room in the boot for luggage and the van had 4 camping chairs and a table- great for eating and relaxing after a day at the beach. The bathroom was a good size and allowed for showers etc without any issues. The van was easy and comfortable to drive and not too big or difficult to park. The reversing camera is a big help here. We had no issues on return either and our deposit was sent straight back to us after the rental without any delay. All and all we had a fantastic time exploring Lanzarote for five nights in Gonzalo and Saray's van and definitely highly recommend them as hosts and their campervan. We would definitely rent from them again.😊
