The Netherlands stretches across just 300 kilometres from north to south, yet packs in over 37,000 kilometres of cycling paths, more per square kilometre than any other country in Europe. From the iconic windmills of Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to the colourful tulip fields of Lisse and the historic canals of Amsterdam, this compact nation rewards slow travel. The distance from Amsterdam to Maastricht is roughly 210 kilometres, while the drive from Rotterdam to Groningen covers about 250 kilometres, making it easy to explore multiple provinces in a single trip. Flat terrain and well-maintained roads create ideal conditions for travelling by campervan or motorhome, with no mountain passes or steep gradients to worry about. Coastal stretches along the Wadden Sea — another UNESCO site — offer birdwatching and wild beaches, while the Hoge Veluwe National Park provides forested trails and the famous Kröller-Müller Museum. Friesland's lake district is perfect for waterside overnight stops, and the Deltaworks in Zeeland showcase Dutch engineering at its finest. With Yescapa, you can hire a vehicle directly from local owners spread across the country, choosing from campervans and motorhomes that suit your group size and travel style. Peer-to-peer sharing means competitive prices and personal tips from Dutch hosts who know their region best.
The Netherlands is a joy to explore from April through October. King's Day on 27 April fills every city with orange-clad celebrations, and the Keukenhof gardens near Lisse display millions of tulips from late March to mid-May. Summer brings long daylight hours and lively festivals, while September and October reward travellers with quieter roads and golden autumn colours across the Veluwe. Campsites throughout the country are generally open from April to October, with full hook-ups widely available. Booking a campervan through Yescapa during spring or autumn often means better availability and more flexible pricing from local owners compared to the peak summer months.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.

The Netherlands offers a wide range of campsites, from coastal pitches behind the North Sea dunes to lakeside spots in Friesland and woodland settings on the Veluwe. Most sites provide full hook-ups for both campervans and motorhomes, along with modern sanitary blocks, Wi-Fi, and family-friendly facilities. Many campsites are open from April to October, with a growing number welcoming guests year-round. Pitches are generally spacious and well-maintained, reflecting the Dutch attention to practical comfort.
The Netherlands has an extensive motorway network, and the good news is that all highways are toll-free for regular vehicles, including motorhomes and campervans. There are just two exceptions: the Westerscheldetunnel in Zeeland and the Kiltunnel near Dordrecht, both requiring a small fee. Speed limits for motorhomes under 3,500 kg match those for cars — 100 km/h on motorways during the day (6:00–19:00) and 120 or 130 km/h at night, depending on the stretch. Vehicles over 3,500 kg are limited to 80 km/h on all roads. Rest areas with services appear regularly along major routes, and signage is clear and consistent throughout the country.

Exceptional experience, I highly recommend it! Nuno is responsive, attentive and genuinely caring: he picked us up at the airport and provided us with a comprehensive list of must-see spots to explore the island, eat and sleep. Thanks to him, we discovered Madeira in a truly unique and authentic way. An unforgettable trip, made possible in large part by his invaluable help.

Car is “hursh but fair”. Need a few km to grab a feeling but than you cruise. We went 900 km in n all kind of conditions and it was all good. All is in working order as described and not too long so you fit in a parking spot.
