Norway's Atlantic Road, an 8.3-kilometre stretch of highway connecting islands across the open sea, has been voted one of the world's most remarkable engineering feats and is a must-drive for any road trip enthusiast. From the dramatic fjords of Geirangerfjord and Nærøyfjord, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, to the towering Trollstigen mountain pass and the vast Lofoten archipelago, Norway offers landscapes that feel almost otherworldly. The distance from Oslo to Bergen covers roughly 460 kilometres, while the journey from Tromsø to Nordkapp — mainland Europe's northernmost point — stretches around 500 kilometres through Arctic terrain. Coastal roads wind along deep fjords, mountain passes climb to over 1,000 metres, and ferries connect stretches of coastline where roads simply cannot go. This variety makes Norway ideal for exploring by campervan or motorhome, with each day bringing a completely different backdrop. Narrow roads in western Norway suit smaller campervans, while the broad E6 highway running north to south is comfortable for larger motorhomes. Through Yescapa, you can hire a vehicle directly from local owners spread across Norwegian cities and towns, giving you flexible pick-up options and a personal touch that makes planning your adventure straightforward and enjoyable.
June to August is the prime season for a campervan trip in Norway, when the midnight sun lights up the north and roads across mountain passes like Trollstigen are fully open. The Bergen International Festival in late May kicks off the cultural calendar, while the Riddu Riđđu indigenous festival in July brings music and art to northern Norway. September and early October reward travellers with autumn colours and the first northern lights sightings. Booking through Yescapa during shoulder months like May or September often means better availability and more competitive peer-to-peer rates. Whichever month you choose, plan your route early to secure a motorhome that fits your itinerary.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Starting in Kristiansund, this route crosses the famous Atlantic Road before winding south through Molde and along the Romsdalsfjord to Åndalsnes. At around 220 km, it suits a campervan perfectly and takes three to five days with stops for fishing villages, coastal viewpoints, and the Trollveggen rock face — Europe's tallest vertical cliff.
This 280 km loop connects Stavanger to Haugesund via the Lysefjord and Preikestolen trailhead, then returns along the coast through Karmøy island. It is ideal for three to five days in a campervan, with ferry crossings adding to the experience. Don't miss the Flor og Fjære island garden near Stavanger for a unique detour off the main road.
From Oslo, head south through Kristiansand and along the Sørlandet coast to Lindesnes Lighthouse — mainland Norway's southernmost point — before looping back via the Setesdal valley. At 450 km, this five-to-seven-day motorhome trip offers sandy beaches, white-painted coastal towns, and the Setesdal Museum of folk architecture along quiet inland roads.
This 400 km route from Bergen follows the Hardangerfjord east to the Folgefonna glacier, then climbs to the Hardangervidda plateau before returning via Voss. Allow five to seven days to hike to Trolltunga, visit the Hardangervidda Nature Centre, and enjoy orchard-lined fjord roads. Suitable for both campervans and motorhomes with well-maintained roads throughout.
Drive 600 km from Bodø to Andøya, crossing into the Lofoten archipelago by ferry or bridge and continuing north through Vesterålen. Over seven to ten days, explore the fishing village of Reine, surf at Unstad beach, and spot whales off Andenes. Narrow roads between mountains and sea make a campervan the best choice, though motorhomes can manage the main E10 route comfortably.
Follow the E6 for roughly 900 km from Tromsø to Nordkapp, mainland Europe's northernmost point. This ten-to-fourteen-day motorhome journey passes through Alta — home to prehistoric rock carvings — the Sámi town of Kautokeino, and the vast Finnmarksvidda plateau. Campsites with full hook-ups are spaced regularly along the E6, making it a comfortable long-distance route through Norway's Arctic north.

Norway offers a wide range of campsites spread from the southern coast to the Arctic north. Whether you prefer a fjord-side pitch with mountain views or a coastal spot near sandy beaches, you will find well-equipped facilities for both campervans and motorhomes. Most sites provide electric hook-ups, heated sanitary blocks, and kitchen areas. Many also offer laundry rooms, Wi-Fi, and dedicated waste disposal stations for grey and black water, making extended trips across Norway comfortable and convenient.
Norway has no motorway toll booths — tolls are collected electronically via the AutoPASS system, and foreign-registered vehicles are billed automatically through cameras. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are typically 80 km/h on main roads and 60 km/h in built-up areas. The E6, Norway's longest road at over 2,500 km, runs from the Swedish border near Svinesund all the way to Kirkenes in the far north. Mountain passes such as Trollstigen and Lysevegen may close from October to May depending on snowfall. Ferries are an essential part of many routes along the western fjords, so factor crossing times into your journey plan.
Très bonne expérience dans le camping-car de Rémy. Pour nous c'était une première ! Nous avons beaucoup apprécié les échanges avec Rémy qui nous a bien tout expliqué. A refaire ! Merci
Our stay in Koda was easily the highlight of our trip. We took her on a trip to the south and each day was an unforgettable experience. The van itself was easy enough to drive (a bit of elbow grease to turn from a dead standstill but nothing too bad) and was kitted with absolutely everything we could need. All the small details were so appreciated: lots of crockery, a coffee machine with pods, soap & sponges, extra trash bags, extra gas canisters, lots of charging ports, a speaker, the rooftop with ladder, picnic blanket, tables & chair fairy lights… it was perfect. There was even a solar shower which worked perfectly and gave us so much more freedom. We thought the bed would be a bit too small, but honestly we had more than enough space. The owners, Carina & Rafaela, were also fantastic. They made sure we knew all the little tips & tricks before we set off and were just a message away for any questions we had. We truly appreciated your hospitality and kindness and would love to be back for another stay in Koda!
We had an excellent experience renting João’s van through Yescapa. Communication was fantastic from start to finish, and João was always quick to respond and help with anything we needed. Any questions or minor issues we had were sorted out straight away, which made the whole trip stress free. The van was the perfect size for two people travelling around Portugal. It was comfortable, easy to drive, and had everything we needed for our adventure. We would highly recommend João to anyone looking to explore Portugal by van and wouldn’t hesitate to rent from him again.
Everything was perfect with Ricardo. Communication was easy, and they have been very respectful and arrangeant. I truly recommand to rent your car to them.
Nicolas and partner met us at the train station with their van! Both were extremely nice!, thorough with explanations, answered all questions patiently, rigorous with procedure to document the pre-trip van status and overall gave a great first impression of how this trip would go. Being used to non-self-contained van life back in the US, we got a feel for the van inside space quickly even on the first night. Sequence of cooking, cleaning, setting up the bed in the evening (and the reverse in the morning) became self-evident quickly. Sleeping surface is comfortable, and we got great sleeps after daily hiking. The van drives great and is the right size for narrow roads and most of the parking areas because of the height. Fuel efficiency is great. One potential improvement suggestion would be to have one removable screen to enable leaving one of the side windows open during the night for ventilation without ingress of mosquitos. Nicolas responded very quickly to any texts. This was a 20-day outing around the Provence and a great experience with this van and hosts.
