Málaga's Picasso Museum houses over 230 works by the city's most famous son, born at Plaza de la Merced 15 in 1881. The historic centre wraps around the Alcazaba, an 11th-century Moorish fortress perched above the port, while the Centre Pompidou Málaga — the only branch of the Parisian institution in Spain — adds a splash of contemporary art to the waterfront Muelle Uno promenade. Stroll through the Atarazanas Market for fresh produce and local flavours, or climb up to the Castillo de Gibralfaro for sweeping views of the coastline and the bullring below. The city sits on the Costa del Sol, with broad coastal roads that make driving a motorhome straightforward, and Granada is just 126 km to the northeast while Ronda lies 100 km to the west through scenic mountain passes. Málaga is also a gateway to the Caminito del Rey, a dramatic walkway pinned to gorge walls roughly 60 km north. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners in Málaga, which means flexible pick-up points across the city and honest tips on where to head next. Whether you are planning a week along the coast or a quick weekend escape inland, renting from a local gives you a head start on discovering the region at your own pace.
Málaga enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year, making it a rewarding destination in every season. Spring is ideal for exploring on foot and by campervan — the Semana Santa processions in March or April fill the streets with tradition and colour. In August, the Feria de Málaga transforms the city centre and the Cortijo de Torres fairground into a week-long celebration of music, dance and local cuisine. Autumn and winter bring comfortable temperatures for coastal drives and quieter campsites. Book your Yescapa motorhome early for summer months, the most popular period along the Costa del Sol, and consider spring or autumn to enjoy competitive peer-to-peer prices and open roads.
Málaga is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 55 km northwest from Málaga to the limestone karst landscape of El Torcal de Antequera. Park your campervan at the visitor centre car park and hike the green or yellow trail through surreal rock formations. Nearby Antequera town offers the Dolmens archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage landmark worth a morning visit.
Drive 60 km north from Málaga to the Caminito del Rey, a walkway clinging to the walls of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes gorge. Book tickets in advance and leave your motorhome at the car park near the north access in Ardales. Combine the visit with a swim at the Embalse del Guadalhorce reservoirs nearby.
Travel 126 km northeast from Málaga to Granada, home of the Alhambra palace and the Albaicín quarter. Stop in Loja for a riverside break, then settle at a campsite near Granada with mountain views. Explore the Sacromonte caves and the Cathedral before heading into the Sierra Nevada foothills.
Head 100 km west from Málaga to Ronda, a town split by the El Tajo gorge and linked by the iconic Puente Nuevo bridge. The A-357 and A-367 wind through olive groves and white villages like Álora and Ardales. Park your campervan near the old town and visit the Plaza de Toros, one of Spain's oldest bullrings.
Cover 220 km west from Málaga along the coast to Cádiz, one of Europe's oldest cities. Stop in Marbella for a walk through the old quarter, then continue to Tarifa for views across to Morocco. Cádiz offers wide motorhome-friendly streets, the Catedral de Cádiz and golden-sand beaches at La Caleta.
Set off 335 km northwest from Málaga on a loop through Andalusia's cultural heartland. Spend two days in Córdoba exploring the Mezquita-Catedral and the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, then continue to Seville for the Real Alcázar and Plaza de España. Campsites outside both cities offer full hook-ups and easy bus connections.

Málaga and its surroundings offer a good range of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Along the coast you will find sites with sea views and direct beach access, while inland options closer to the mountains provide a quieter setting. Most sites feature electric hook-ups, modern shower blocks, Wi-Fi and dedicated pitches for larger vehicles. Several are open year-round thanks to the mild climate, making Málaga a practical base in any season.
Málaga has several options for parking a motorhome or campervan. The city centre restricts large vehicles in many streets, so it is best to use dedicated areas on the outskirts and take public transport in. Overnight parking in a motorhome is permitted in designated areas only — always check local signage. The Málaga bus and metro network connects outer parking zones to the centre in under 20 minutes, making it easy to explore without moving your vehicle.
We had an excellent experience renting João’s van through Yescapa. Communication was fantastic from start to finish, and João was always quick to respond and help with anything we needed. Any questions or minor issues we had were sorted out straight away, which made the whole trip stress free. The van was the perfect size for two people travelling around Portugal. It was comfortable, easy to drive, and had everything we needed for our adventure. We would highly recommend João to anyone looking to explore Portugal by van and wouldn’t hesitate to rent from him again.
Everything was perfect with Ricardo. Communication was easy, and they have been very respectful and arrangeant. I truly recommand to rent your car to them.
Nicolas and partner met us at the train station with their van! Both were extremely nice!, thorough with explanations, answered all questions patiently, rigorous with procedure to document the pre-trip van status and overall gave a great first impression of how this trip would go. Being used to non-self-contained van life back in the US, we got a feel for the van inside space quickly even on the first night. Sequence of cooking, cleaning, setting up the bed in the evening (and the reverse in the morning) became self-evident quickly. Sleeping surface is comfortable, and we got great sleeps after daily hiking. The van drives great and is the right size for narrow roads and most of the parking areas because of the height. Fuel efficiency is great. One potential improvement suggestion would be to have one removable screen to enable leaving one of the side windows open during the night for ventilation without ingress of mosquitos. Nicolas responded very quickly to any texts. This was a 20-day outing around the Provence and a great experience with this van and hosts.
We had a fantastic time in Sardinia, and the campervan was the perfect companion for our trip. The van ran smoothly, was incredibly cozy, and was well-equipped with everything we needed. We were especially impressed by the layout, which offers plenty of sleeping space for two plus two adults. A huge thank you to Séverine, who is a wonderful owner. Her warmth, kindness, and helpfulness truly made our experience special. We had a small challenge on our final night at the Alghero Laguna Blu campsite: we discovered the mosquito door nets a bit too late, which unfortunately allowed quite a few mosquitoes to get inside the van. For future renters, definitely remember to check for those nets early in the evening! We would highly recommend both the camper and Séverine to anyone planning a trip. We truly enjoyed our stay and would love to rent from her again.
We had a wonderful time traveling with this camper van! Antonio is extremely nice and very easy to communicate with. The van was clean, comfortable, and well stocked. Thanks to the solar panel, we did not need to worry about parking overnight in a place that had electricity. The check-in and check-out process with Antonio was very easy. One thing that would have been appreciated is a couple of bath towels and kitchen towels. We ended up purchasing a bath towel (Peppa Pig themed, the only towel we could find at Lidl haha) and left it with Antonio, so hopefully future renters can use that! Renters should keep in mind that this van does NOT have air conditioning. It might be easy to overlook this detail in the description. Overall, we are very happy we chose this van for our trip! Highly recommend. :)
