Why choose Málaga for your road trip

Málaga — a city worth exploring

Málaga's Picasso Museum houses over 230 works by the city's most famous son, born at Plaza de la Merced 15 in 1881. The historic centre wraps around the Alcazaba, an 11th-century Moorish fortress perched above the port, while the Centre Pompidou Málaga — the only branch of the Parisian institution in Spain — adds a splash of contemporary art to the waterfront Muelle Uno promenade. Stroll through the Atarazanas Market for fresh produce and local flavours, or climb up to the Castillo de Gibralfaro for sweeping views of the coastline and the bullring below. The city sits on the Costa del Sol, with broad coastal roads that make driving a motorhome straightforward, and Granada is just 126 km to the northeast while Ronda lies 100 km to the west through scenic mountain passes. Málaga is also a gateway to the Caminito del Rey, a dramatic walkway pinned to gorge walls roughly 60 km north. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners in Málaga, which means flexible pick-up points across the city and honest tips on where to head next. Whether you are planning a week along the coast or a quick weekend escape inland, renting from a local gives you a head start on discovering the region at your own pace.

Best time to visit

Málaga enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year, making it a rewarding destination in every season. Spring is ideal for exploring on foot and by campervan — the Semana Santa processions in March or April fill the streets with tradition and colour. In August, the Feria de Málaga transforms the city centre and the Cortijo de Torres fairground into a week-long celebration of music, dance and local cuisine. Autumn and winter bring comfortable temperatures for coastal drives and quieter campsites. Book your Yescapa motorhome early for summer months, the most popular period along the Costa del Sol, and consider spring or autumn to enjoy competitive peer-to-peer prices and open roads.

Where to park your motorhome

The city centre restricts large vehicles in many streets, so it is best to use dedicated areas on the outskirts and take public transport in. Overnight parking in a motorhome is permitted in designated areas only — always check local signage. The Málaga bus and metro network connects outer parking zones to the centre in under 20 minutes, making it easy to explore without moving your vehicle.

  • Parking Saba Muelle Uno, Adjacent to the city — Underground car park at the port promenade, close to the Centre Pompidou Málaga. Height limit of 2.1 m — suitable for campervans only. Ideal for a day visit to the waterfront.
  • Área de Autocaravanas Málaga, 4km west — Dedicated motorhome area west of the city centre with flat hardstanding pitches. Offers water fill-up, waste disposal and electricity. Overnight stays permitted.
  • Parking Huelin, 3km west — Open-air car park in the Huelin neighbourhood, near the beach. Accepts larger vehicles and is a short walk from the Museo Automovilístico y de la Moda. No overnight stay.

It was our first time traveling with a camper, and renting this one for our trip around Mallorca turned out to be an absolutely amazing and unforgettable experience that exceeded all our expectations. The camper was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Everything was well-maintained and thoughtfully equipped, which made our first camper trip easy and enjoyable. Communication with Gustavo was excellent from start to finish. He always responded very quickly, was friendly and helpful, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. He also shared some fantastic recommendations for places to visit and park around the island, which made our trip even better. We couldn't have asked for a better first camper experience and would highly recommend both the camper and Gustavo to anyone planning a trip to Mallorca. We would happily rent it again in the future!

It was perfect. The owner is a very nice guy who picked us up from Funchal to get to Machico and explained everything about the car. The car included everything that was needed for our roadtrip. The tent is spacious and the amenities were of good quality. Overall it was an amazing experience to enjoy the island this way!
