Cádiz sits on a narrow peninsula jutting into the Atlantic Ocean and is widely regarded as one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Western Europe, with Phoenician origins dating back to around 1100 BC. The old town is almost entirely surrounded by water, giving it a distinctive island-like character that makes exploring on foot a genuine pleasure. Wander through the Barrio del Pópulo, the medieval heart of the city, before climbing the Torre Tavira to enjoy panoramic views through its original camera obscura. The Catedral de Cádiz, with its golden dome visible from across the bay, anchors the waterfront, while the Museo de Cádiz houses Phoenician sarcophagi and works by Zurbarán. Playa de la Caleta, tucked between two ancient fortresses — Castillo de San Sebastián and Castillo de Santa Catalina — offers a sheltered beach right in the city centre. Jerez de la Frontera lies just 35 km to the north-east, famous for its sherry bodegas, and the white village of Vejer de la Frontera is roughly 55 km to the south-east along the coast road. The surrounding coastline, known as the Costa de la Luz, features long sandy beaches and open terrain well suited to campervan travel. With Yescapa, you can hire a motorhome or campervan directly from local owners in the Cádiz area, making it easy to pick up your vehicle and set off at your own pace along this spectacular Atlantic shoreline.
Cádiz enjoys a mild Atlantic climate that makes it a rewarding destination throughout the year. February is carnival season, when the famous Carnaval de Cádiz fills the streets with music, costumes and satirical performances — book your campervan well ahead for this period. From May to October, the long coastline is perfect for beach days and outdoor dining. Summer is the busiest season, so securing your hire early through Yescapa gives you access to competitive peer-to-peer pricing from local owners. Autumn in Cádiz brings warm sea temperatures and quieter roads, ideal for exploring the Costa de la Luz at a relaxed pace.
Cádiz is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Around 60 km southeast of Cádiz, Vejer de la Frontera sits on a hilltop overlooking the Costa de la Luz. Wander through its Moorish old town, visit the Iglesia del Divino Salvador and head to nearby Playa El Palmar. Access roads are well-suited to motorhomes, with parking on the edge of town.
Just 35 km northeast of Cádiz, Jerez is home to world-famous sherry bodegas like Tío Pepe and the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art. Explore the Alcázar fortress and stroll through the old quarter. Parking areas near the centre make this a great short campervan trip.
Around 105 km southeast of Cádiz lies Tarifa, mainland Europe's southernmost point, with Gibraltar a further 20 km beyond. In Tarifa, visit the Castillo de Guzmán el Bueno and the windswept Playa de los Lances. In Gibraltar, explore the Rock and its famous Barbary macaques. Campsites near Tarifa sit right along the coast.
Around 155 km northeast of Cádiz, Ronda perches dramatically above the El Tajo gorge. Visit the Puente Nuevo bridge, the Plaza de Toros bullring and the Baños Árabes. The drive via the A-382 and A-374 winds through rolling hills and olive groves. Campervan pitches are available on the outskirts of Ronda.
Around 260 km northeast of Cádiz, Córdoba is home to the Mezquita-Catedral with its forest of over 850 columns. Stroll through the Judería quarter, visit the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos and cross the Puente Romano over the Guadalquivir. A stop in Écija along the way is well worth it. Campsites near Córdoba offer motorhome pitches with electrical hook-ups.
Around 125 km north of Cádiz, Seville awaits with its Cathedral, Real Alcázar and Plaza de España. From there, continue to Doñana National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of wetlands and dunes — roughly 300 km as a round trip. Guided tours depart from El Rocío. Campsites on the park's edge offer pitches for campervans and motorhomes alike.

Overnight stays in vehicles on public car parks are generally not permitted — use designated motorhome areas or nearby campsites instead. Watch out for height restrictions in underground car parks.
An incredible experience from A to Z with very clear information from Carlos, very helpful in answering questions and a beautiful check-in process that really helped us to understand how to make the most out of the RV in every aspect possible. We really enjoyed driving around Portugal, and the RV had every convenience that we would want. Highly recommended.
Pedro was amazing, good communication before and during the trip.

I had a very good experience, the camper was well prepared, the communication with the owner was excellent. The description of the camper was perfect, we had a very good time. Vicente explained everything very well when I arrived and took his time to show me everything, on the day of return we were even taken to the airport.
Everything was perfect. The camper has all the comforts you may need, has a lot of space, good facilities, the motor is strong and makes you feel safe. Alejandro and his son were really nice and always reachable. We can absolutely recommend it. We had an amazing holiday in Lanzarote ❤️🌵☀️
