Why choose Cádiz for your road trip

Cádiz — a city worth exploring

Cádiz sits on a narrow peninsula jutting into the Atlantic Ocean and is widely regarded as one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Western Europe, with Phoenician origins dating back to around 1100 BC. The old town is almost entirely surrounded by water, giving it a distinctive island-like character that makes exploring on foot a genuine pleasure. Wander through the Barrio del Pópulo, the medieval heart of the city, before climbing the Torre Tavira to enjoy panoramic views through its original camera obscura. The Catedral de Cádiz, with its golden dome visible from across the bay, anchors the waterfront, while the Museo de Cádiz houses Phoenician sarcophagi and works by Zurbarán. Playa de la Caleta, tucked between two ancient fortresses — Castillo de San Sebastián and Castillo de Santa Catalina — offers a sheltered beach right in the city centre. Jerez de la Frontera lies just 35 km to the north-east, famous for its sherry bodegas, and the white village of Vejer de la Frontera is roughly 55 km to the south-east along the coast road. The surrounding coastline, known as the Costa de la Luz, features long sandy beaches and open terrain well suited to campervan travel. With Yescapa, you can hire a motorhome or campervan directly from local owners in the Cádiz area, making it easy to pick up your vehicle and set off at your own pace along this spectacular Atlantic shoreline.

Best time to visit

Cádiz enjoys a mild Atlantic climate that makes it a rewarding destination throughout the year. February is carnival season, when the famous Carnaval de Cádiz fills the streets with music, costumes and satirical performances — book your campervan well ahead for this period. From May to October, the long coastline is perfect for beach days and outdoor dining. Summer is the busiest season, so securing your hire early through Yescapa gives you access to competitive peer-to-peer pricing from local owners. Autumn in Cádiz brings warm sea temperatures and quieter roads, ideal for exploring the Costa de la Luz at a relaxed pace.

Where to park your motorhome

Parking a motorhome or campervan in Cádiz requires some planning, as the old town sits on a narrow peninsula with limited space. Overnight parking in public streets is generally not permitted for recreational vehicles. Dedicated areas on the outskirts and near the bridge connecting the peninsula to the mainland offer more practical options. Always check local signage for height and length restrictions before parking.

  • Parking Área de Autocaravanas de Cádiz (Cortadura), 3km southeast — Designated motorhome area near Playa de Cortadura with flat hardstanding, close to a bus stop for the old town.
  • Parking Paseo Marítimo, 1km south — Large open-air car park along the seafront promenade, suitable for campervans during daytime visits. Check height barriers before entering.
  • Parking Estadio Ramón de Carranza, 2km south — Spacious car park near the football stadium with good access for larger vehicles. A short walk or bus ride to the old town centre.

We had a fantastic time in Sardinia, and the campervan was the perfect companion for our trip. The van ran smoothly, was incredibly cozy, and was well-equipped with everything we needed. We were especially impressed by the layout, which offers plenty of sleeping space for two plus two adults. A huge thank you to Séverine, who is a wonderful owner. Her warmth, kindness, and helpfulness truly made our experience special. We had a small challenge on our final night at the Alghero Laguna Blu campsite: we discovered the mosquito door nets a bit too late, which unfortunately allowed quite a few mosquitoes to get inside the van. For future renters, definitely remember to check for those nets early in the evening! We would highly recommend both the camper and Séverine to anyone planning a trip. We truly enjoyed our stay and would love to rent from her again.

We had a wonderful time traveling with this camper van! Antonio is extremely nice and very easy to communicate with. The van was clean, comfortable, and well stocked. Thanks to the solar panel, we did not need to worry about parking overnight in a place that had electricity. The check-in and check-out process with Antonio was very easy. One thing that would have been appreciated is a couple of bath towels and kitchen towels. We ended up purchasing a bath towel (Peppa Pig themed, the only towel we could find at Lidl haha) and left it with Antonio, so hopefully future renters can use that! Renters should keep in mind that this van does NOT have air conditioning. It might be easy to overlook this detail in the description. Overall, we are very happy we chose this van for our trip! Highly recommend. :)

We are more than happy about this experience and couldn't be happier with the service. The campervan was spotless and well-prepared when we picked it up. They always responded quickly to our messages and were incredibly friendly and easy to deal with. They provided bed linen, towels, and coffee, which made the trip even more convenient. They also kindly drove us to the airport for our early morning flight, which we really appreciated. Their attention to detail and customer service made all the difference. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a campervan rental in Spain.
