Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Los Angeles Airport

Los Angeles Airport — a region worth exploring

Los Angeles International Airport, known worldwide as LAX, handles over 88 million passengers annually and serves as the primary gateway to Southern California's sprawling coastline, desert landscapes, and mountain ranges. Situated just 29 km from downtown Los Angeles and roughly 170 km from Joshua Tree National Park, LAX puts you within easy reach of some of the most iconic road trip territory in the United States. From the Santa Monica Pier to the Getty Center, from the surf breaks of Huntington Beach to the towering redwoods of Sequoia National Park, the region surrounding Los Angeles offers an extraordinary range of experiences. The Pacific Coast Highway stretches north and south from the city, winding past dramatic cliffs and sandy coves that are perfectly suited to campervan travel. Inland, the San Gabriel Mountains rise to over 3,000 metres, offering cooler elevations and forested campgrounds just an hour from the coast. Whether you fancy a weekend loop along the Malibu coastline or a multi-week adventure reaching Death Valley — roughly 450 km northeast of LAX — a motorhome gives you the freedom to cover ground at your own pace. Through Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners based across the greater Los Angeles area, choosing from compact vans ideal for couples to larger family-friendly vehicles, all with the personal touch and competitive pricing that peer-to-peer sharing brings.

Best time to visit

Southern California's mild climate makes Los Angeles a year-round destination for campervan travel. Spring (March to May) is ideal for wildflower displays in the Antelope Valley and comfortable desert temperatures around Joshua Tree. Summer draws crowds to the coast, and events like the Malibu Surfing Association Classic in September keep the energy high into autumn. Winter remains pleasant along the coast, with daytime temperatures often above 18°C. Booking through Yescapa during the quieter months from November to February can offer excellent value, as peer-to-peer pricing tends to be more flexible outside peak season. Plan ahead for summer and holiday weekends to secure your preferred motorhome or campervan.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Los Angeles Airport

Driving a motorhome or campervan around Los Angeles means navigating a vast freeway network. California's highways are toll-free in the Los Angeles area, though some express lanes on the I-10 and I-110 use FasTrak electronic tolling. Speed limits for larger vehicles typically sit at 55 mph (88 km/h) on most freeways, compared to 65 mph for cars. We picked up the van without any issues. The van matched the description and pictures and was very nicely decorated. The owners were lovely and even let our dog play with theirs whilst we unpacked our stuff into the van. We spent 2 weeks in the van and had no issues. It was the perfect size for 2 people and a dog. There was no issues dropping the van off after our trip. We would definitely recommend!

Super friendly guests! Everything went smoothly from the beginning to the end of the rental. They treated the campervan with great care, and communication was always easy and pleasant. We'd be delighted to welcome them back anytime they decide to visit Andalucía again.

100% recommend. Such a kind and welcoming family. Everything was explained in detail when we arrived so we understood how everything worked onboard. The RV itself is stunning and has everything you need included. We were 2 adults and 2 kids (8 and 4) that spent 2 weeks traveling through northern Spain. Plenty of sleeping space, kitchen was large enough to prepare meals indoors if need be. The engine was powerful enough through the mountains and the size of the RV we had no problems navigating the narrow mountain roads and town. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

We had the best trip with the van "Fiona" we rented by Cuca - the most amazing host. There was no problems with the van, and it was driving great for an old car. The van also had everything we needed like a portabel shower, a sink with running water, a cooler and a much needed parasol. Cuca recommended the best beaches and places, and responded quickly to any questions we had. We cant recommend Cuca and the van enough!
