Why choose Nice for your road trip

Nice — a city worth exploring

Nice's Promenade des Anglais stretches 7 km along the Baie des Anges, a seafront walkway first funded by the city's English visitors in 1822. The Old Town, known as Vieux-Nice, is a maze of narrow lanes filled with market stalls, baroque churches, and the famous Cours Saleya flower market. Art lovers can spend a full day between the Musée Matisse, set in a 17th-century Genoese villa on the Cimiez hill, and the Musée Marc Chagall, home to the largest public collection of the artist's work. For panoramic views, head up to the Parc de la Colline du Château, where the ruins of a medieval fortress overlook the port and coastline. Monaco sits just 20 km to the east along the coastal Basse Corniche, while the lavender fields of Grasse are roughly 40 km to the northwest. The roads along the Côte d'Azur can be winding and narrow in places, so a campervan gives you the flexibility to stop at scenic viewpoints without worrying about tight schedules. A motorhome is ideal for longer stays, with plenty of well-equipped aires and campsites dotted along the coast. Through Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners in Nice, which means a more personal pick-up experience and often a few insider tips on where to park and explore. Whether you are planning a weekend along the Riviera or a longer loop into Provence, Nice is a brilliant base for a campervan adventure.

Best time to visit

Nice enjoys a Mediterranean climate with over 300 days of sunshine a year, making it a great destination in any season. The Carnaval de Nice, one of the world's largest carnival events, fills the city with parades and flower battles every February. Summer is the most popular season for campervan travel along the coast, so we recommend booking your Yescapa hire early to secure the best choice from local owners. Spring and autumn bring comfortable temperatures ideal for driving the scenic corniches without the busiest traffic. Winter is surprisingly mild, and many campsites in the Nice area remain open year-round, welcoming motorhome travellers looking for a quieter Riviera experience.

If you’re looking for the perfect camper van, look no further! Sylvia’s van exceeded all of our expectations. It was spotless, incredibly comfortable, and equipped with absolutely everything we could possibly need. You can immediately tell how much care and attention Sylvia puts into making sure her guests have the best possible experience. What really made the difference was Sylvia herself. She was exceptionally kind, welcoming, and always quick to respond, making us feel supported from the moment we booked until the end of our trip. Thanks to her amazing van, we had an unforgettable adventure and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We would happily rent from Sylvia again and recommend her without hesitation to anyone looking for a reliable host and a fantastic camper van.

I loved tripping around the island with this van. It is equipped with many accessories as described, and some basic food condiments to get you started. Sleeping was comfortable, and handling the van itself too!

We had a fantastic trip in Joao's campervan. It was fully equipped with everything we needed. Every window has a mosquito screen, making it very easy to ventilate the van. It is also a very pleasant and reliable vehicle; we had no trouble driving up steep roads. It is an excellent campervan for 'off-grid' travel, as it comes with hot water, a large fridge, a toilet, ample water, and a large gas supply. We also never had any issues with the electricity, thanks to the solar panel. All windows can be blacked out at night. We highly recommend Joao's campervan. Communication was smooth throughout, too! Thank you very much!
