Marseille's Vieux-Port has welcomed seafarers for over 2,600 years, making it the oldest continuously inhabited city in France. Perched along the Mediterranean coast, this port city blends ancient history with a bold, creative energy that rewards curious travellers. Wander through Le Panier, the city's oldest quarter, where narrow lanes open onto colourful street art and artisan workshops. Visit the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde for sweeping views across the rooftops and out to the Frioul archipelago. The Mucem (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations) sits right on the waterfront, connected to the historic Fort Saint-Jean by a slender footbridge. A short drive south leads to the Calanques National Park, where limestone cliffs plunge into turquoise water — a spectacular stretch for coastal walks. Aix-en-Provence is just 31 km north, ideal for a half-day detour, while Cassis and its famous cape, Cap Canaille, lie only 23 km to the east. The coastal roads around Marseille are winding but well-maintained, and many viewpoints have pull-offs suitable for larger vehicles. Exploring by campervan gives you the freedom to follow the coastline at your own pace, stopping wherever the view calls. With a motorhome hired through Yescapa, you connect directly with local owners who know the best routes and overnight spots. A campervan trip here means waking up to the sound of the sea and the scent of fresh bouillabaisse drifting from the harbour.
Marseille enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year, so almost any month works for a road trip. May and June are ideal — warm enough for swimming in the Calanques, with campsites still easy to book. The Fête de la Musique in June fills the Vieux-Port with free concerts, while the Festival de Marseille runs from mid-June to mid-July with dance and theatre across the city. Autumn brings the Fiesta des Suds in October, a world-music festival near the docks. Hiring a campervan through Yescapa in the shoulder months often means better peer-to-peer rates from local owners. Book a few weeks ahead for summer to secure the best choice of vehicles in Marseille.

The Marseille area offers a good range of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Along the coast you will find seaside pitches with direct beach access, while inland sites near Aubagne and Aix-en-Provence provide shaded countryside settings. Most sites include electrical hook-ups, water points, hot showers, and waste disposal facilities. Several also offer Wi-Fi, laundry rooms, and on-site shops, making longer stays comfortable.
Marseille has several parking areas that can accommodate motorhomes and campervans. Overnight parking in the city centre is generally restricted for large vehicles, so dedicated facilities on the outskirts are the best option. Always check height barriers before entering underground car parks, as most have a 1.90 m limit. The areas listed below accept larger vehicles and offer convenient access to public transport or the city centre.
Merci pour la confiance que tu m’as accordé pour notre première location de van à chacun ! Très gentille, sérieuse, tolérante et bonne conductrice.
Xavier was friendly from the first time we spoke, he described his 4x4 very well and gace us some useful tips about Corsica. When we arrived he done everything that we settle for the first night and explained how every si gle part of his 4x4 works which os really cool car.
Kori and Rachel were fantastic guests, super kind and fun. The communication with them was easy, and what I appriciate the most is how well they were taking care about our van. I can defenetly reccommed them, they were great guests. Thank you again :)
Highly reccomend! This is an easy and fun to drive Camper with a very comfortable and cozy bed, well outfitted with an excellent cooking system. Spacious with nice privacy glass throughout and rooftop vent. Pick up was fast and easy. It was the perfect vehicle to explore in for almost two weeks. Would definitely rent again!
Our experience with Yescapa was extremely poor. The pickup location for the camper was incorrect, which caused us to lose both time and money, as we had to take an Uber to the actual location, which we essentially had to figure out ourselves. When we arrived at the Roadsurfer office, they initially refused to rent us the camper because they claimed that my driving licence had not been issued by a country accepted by the company. However, when I made the reservation through Yescapa, I provided all the required information and uploaded photos of my licence. This caused us further delays and additional expenses, as I had to pay for an international driving licence validation. Communication was also very poor. We were basically unable to get in touch with anyone to ask our questions or receive assistance regarding the issues we encountered.
