Lanzarote stretches across 845 square kilometres of volcanic terrain, shaped by the eruptions of the 1730s that created the Timanfaya National Park — a landscape so otherworldly that NASA once used it to test lunar rovers. The island's eastern coastline runs roughly 60 kilometres from the white sands of Playa de Papagayo in the south to the cactus-filled Jardín de Cactus designed by César Manrique in the north. From the harbour town of Arrecife to the clifftop viewpoint of Mirador del Río, the drive covers just 45 kilometres, making Lanzarote wonderfully compact for exploring by road. Manrique's influence is everywhere — his integration of art and nature at Jameos del Agua, a series of caves and lagoons transformed into a cultural space, is unlike anything else in the Canary Islands. The terrain is mostly flat with gentle volcanic hills, and roads are well-maintained, so both campervans and motorhomes can navigate comfortably. Coastal routes offer open views across the Atlantic, while inland roads wind through wine-growing valleys like La Geria, where vines grow in hollows dug into black volcanic soil. With Yescapa, you can hire a vehicle directly from local owners across Lanzarote, choosing from a range of campervans and motorhomes that suit your group size and travel style. The peer-to-peer model means more flexibility and a personal touch that makes your trip feel less like a transaction and more like borrowing from a friend.
Lanzarote enjoys a mild, dry climate year-round, making it a fantastic destination in any season. Spring brings the Ironman Lanzarote triathlon each May, filling the island with energy, while the Fiesta de San Ginés in August celebrates Arrecife's patron saint with music and processions. Summer is the most popular period for campervan travel — booking ahead on Yescapa gives you the best choice of vehicles from local owners. Autumn and winter are ideal for quieter exploration, with comfortable temperatures and fewer visitors on the roads. Lanzarote's compact size means you can enjoy coastal and volcanic routes whatever the month.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This loop takes you from Yaiza through Timanfaya National Park to El Golfo and back via La Geria. Over roughly 80 km, you pass lava fields, the Fire Mountains and the wine landscape with its distinctive dry-stone walls. Roads are well surfaced and ideal for a campervan. Stop at Charco de los Clicos for the green lagoon.
From Órzola at the northern tip, drive along the coast through Haría and the Valley of a Thousand Palms to the Mirador del Río. The route covers around 60 km with views across to La Graciosa. Visit the Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua. Roads are narrow but well maintained — ideal for a campervan.
This complete loop starts in Arrecife and passes through Costa Teguise, Órzola, Haría, Tinajo and Playa Blanca before returning. Over roughly 120 km, you experience the full diversity of Lanzarote. The route suits both motorhomes and campervans. Plan stops at Playa de Papagayo and the Castillo de San José.
Link Lanzarote with neighbouring Fuerteventura by ferry from Playa Blanca to Corralejo. The combined driving distance across both islands is around 350 km. On Fuerteventura, explore the Corralejo dunes and Cofete beach. You can take your campervan or motorhome on the ferry. Allow at least two days for Fuerteventura.
Extend your trip across three Canary Islands. From Lanzarote, take the ferry to Fuerteventura and then on to Gran Canaria. The total driving distance is around 500 km. On Gran Canaria, the Maspalomas dunes and the mountain village of Tejeda are well worth visiting. This tour is ideal for travellers wanting to experience the variety of the Canaries in one holiday.
Follow the legacy of César Manrique across Lanzarote. Start at the Fundación César Manrique in Tahíche, drive to Jameos del Agua, continue to Cueva de los Verdes and the Jardín de Cactus in Guatiza. The route covers around 180 km and connects all major works by the artist. Along the way, you will find rest areas and quiet spots to park your vehicle.

Lanzarote offers a selection of campsites spread across different parts of the island. You will find coastal sites with Atlantic views as well as quieter spots inland. Most campsites provide pitches for motorhomes and campervans with electrical hook-ups, fresh water supply and sanitary facilities. Some also offer Wi-Fi and small on-site shops.
Lanzarote has no toll roads, so you can drive freely across the island without extra costs. The main routes — the LZ-1 running north and the LZ-2 heading south from Arrecife — are dual carriageways in good condition, suitable for motorhomes of all sizes. Speed limits for vehicles over 3,500 kg are generally 80 km/h on main roads and 40 km/h in urban areas. Secondary roads leading to beaches and volcanic sites are narrower but well-surfaced. Parking areas with space for larger vehicles are available near major attractions like Timanfaya and Jameos del Agua. Keep fuel stops in mind on quieter stretches, as petrol stations are concentrated around Arrecife and the main tourist centres.
It was our first time in campervan and we got everything we needed. The car was comfortable, economical and fully equipped. We spent an unforgettable week during the total eclipse, although it was almost impossible to find available space on camping sites at that time. But the car batteries did great job so we could park even without the electricity access. The car used 8,9 l/100 km even though we almost didn't use highways. Carlos was very nice and helpful, he made our trip convenient and safe. We definitely recommend Carlos and his vehicle!
There was a small hiccup at first with the reservation, but it was solved quickly and from there on it was total bliss. The motorhome is absolutely top-notch, and the service was really warm and friendly. Despite the language barrier (we didn't speak much Spanish and they didn't speak much English), everything went very smoothly. So there's no need to worry if you don't speak their language — they have the means and experience to handle it. At the handover they walked us through the motorhome and gave us some camping tips and tricks, which made our trip very enjoyable. A big plus was the air conditioner in the living quarters.
Fantastic Family Experience with a Wonderful Host! We are a family of four and could not be more satisfied with our experience. The owner, Martial, was exceptionally helpful throughout the entire process. Before booking, he answered all of our questions promptly and consistently catered to our needs. During our trip, he went out of his way to check in on us and offered fantastic local advice and recommendations on places to visit. The pickup and drop-off processes were both seamless and efficient. The van itself is in excellent condition, extremely well-maintained, spotless, and fully equipped with everything you might need for a great trip—with practically everything working perfectly. We were also deeply touched by Martial’s kindness in picking us up at the airport, which made the start of our trip so much easier.
We had a fantastic family road trip in Carlos’s motorhome, visiting Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Schwarzwald, and Europa-Park. The vehicle had a few minor scratches from previous rentals and was due for a routine service, but Carlos assured us upfront not to worry about them, and it didn't affect our trip at all. The motorhome was well-equipped—having the onboard air grill was an especially nice touch! Pickup and drop-off were quick, straightforward, and hassle-free. We highly recommend Carlos and his motorhome.
The vehicle picture are old and today's vehicle condition are quite different; there are signs of rust on the bodywork and early signs of mold on the inner tent of the upper bed; few scratches to the vehicle are present but they do no demine its functionalities. Despite the fact that everything works, It has been frustrating to pull and push the rear seat back especially at the beginning of the journey, then we get it right with the experience; I personally recommend having the fold/unfold mechanism inspected and fixed. Anyhow, it allowed us to have a wonderful vacation and the robust engine never left us unsupported. Antonio is very supportive and responsive; he helped us with the logistics and gave us a few tips to start the travel.
This was our first experience with a camper. Aurora and Cristian were very helpful and the rental process was very easy and fast. The camper is quite old, but is very well maintained and fully functional. I would recommend this camper. We didn't had any issues during our trip.
