Lanzarote stretches across 845 square kilometres of volcanic terrain, shaped by the eruptions of the 1730s that created the Timanfaya National Park — a landscape so otherworldly that NASA once used it to test lunar rovers. The island's eastern coastline runs roughly 60 kilometres from the white sands of Playa de Papagayo in the south to the cactus-filled Jardín de Cactus designed by César Manrique in the north. From the harbour town of Arrecife to the clifftop viewpoint of Mirador del Río, the drive covers just 45 kilometres, making Lanzarote wonderfully compact for exploring by road. Manrique's influence is everywhere — his integration of art and nature at Jameos del Agua, a series of caves and lagoons transformed into a cultural space, is unlike anything else in the Canary Islands. The terrain is mostly flat with gentle volcanic hills, and roads are well-maintained, so both campervans and motorhomes can navigate comfortably. Coastal routes offer open views across the Atlantic, while inland roads wind through wine-growing valleys like La Geria, where vines grow in hollows dug into black volcanic soil. With Yescapa, you can hire a vehicle directly from local owners across Lanzarote, choosing from a range of campervans and motorhomes that suit your group size and travel style. The peer-to-peer model means more flexibility and a personal touch that makes your trip feel less like a transaction and more like borrowing from a friend.
Lanzarote enjoys a mild, dry climate year-round, making it a fantastic destination in any season. Spring brings the Ironman Lanzarote triathlon each May, filling the island with energy, while the Fiesta de San Ginés in August celebrates Arrecife's patron saint with music and processions. Summer is the most popular period for campervan travel — booking ahead on Yescapa gives you the best choice of vehicles from local owners. Autumn and winter are ideal for quieter exploration, with comfortable temperatures and fewer visitors on the roads. Lanzarote's compact size means you can enjoy coastal and volcanic routes whatever the month.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 70 km cultural route connects César Manrique's masterpieces across Lanzarote. Visit the Fundación César Manrique in Tahíche, Jameos del Agua near Haría, and the Mirador del Río overlooking La Graciosa. Three to five days let you explore each site without rushing. Ideal for a motorhome with overnight stops near Haría.
Circle the entire island of Lanzarote in around 120 km, starting from Arrecife through Timanfaya National Park, up to Órzola in the north, and back along the eastern coast. Five to seven days allow time for detours to Playa de Famara and the Cueva de los Verdes. Roads are campervan and motorhome friendly throughout.
Explore Lanzarote's volcanic interior over 150 km, from the fire mountains of Timanfaya to the Montaña Roja near Playa Blanca. Pass through Yaiza, one of the island's prettiest villages, and cross the lava fields of El Jable. Five to seven days give you time to hike short trails and visit local bodegas in La Geria.
Start in Arrecife and head south along the LZ-2 to the golden coves of Playa de Papagayo, then loop through the wine valleys of La Geria. Around 80 km in total, this route suits campervans perfectly and takes three to four days at a relaxed pace. Stop at the Salinas de Janubio to see the salt flats before returning north.
A short 50 km route through Lanzarote's dramatic north, from Teguise to the Mirador del Río and down to the fishing village of Órzola. Two to four days let you enjoy the surf beach at Playa de Famara and the palm-filled Valle de las Mil Palmeras near Haría. Perfect for a quick campervan getaway.
Combine a full tour of Lanzarote with a ferry crossing from Órzola to La Graciosa, the smallest inhabited island in the Canaries. Over 200 km and seven to ten days, visit Timanfaya, Teguise's Sunday market, and the untouched beaches of La Graciosa. Leave your motorhome at Órzola and explore La Graciosa on foot or by bicycle.

Lanzarote offers a selection of well-equipped campsites spread across the island, from coastal spots near popular beaches to quieter inland locations close to volcanic landscapes. Facilities typically include electrical hook-ups, fresh water points, waste disposal, and shower blocks suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. Several sites sit within easy reach of major attractions, so you can park up and explore without long drives each day.
Lanzarote has no toll roads, so you can drive freely across the island without extra costs. The main routes — the LZ-1 running north and the LZ-2 heading south from Arrecife — are dual carriageways in good condition, suitable for motorhomes of all sizes. Speed limits for vehicles over 3,500 kg are generally 80 km/h on main roads and 40 km/h in urban areas. Secondary roads leading to beaches and volcanic sites are narrower but well-surfaced. Parking areas with space for larger vehicles are available near major attractions like Timanfaya and Jameos del Agua. Keep fuel stops in mind on quieter stretches, as petrol stations are concentrated around Arrecife and the main tourist centres.
Ragazzi fantastici, siamo diventati amici, hanno restituito il van in perfette condizioni! Grazie mille ragazzi e alla prossima!
Great experience renting with a child and a dog. Carina was an amazing host—always in touch and very supportive. She even met us before the payment to check if our larger car seat would fit the Isofix, and she welcomed our dog for free, even giving us a nice blanket for him.The camper was in good condition. The only downside was having just one gas bottle instead of the usual two. It ran out unexpectedly at night, and since gas bottles were not available at the gas stations along our way, we couldn't get a replacement. As a result, we spent the last 2.5 days of our trip without heating or the stove. Other than that, everything was perfect. Highly recommended!
Everything was perfect with Laura, she took care of our motorhome and left everything clean & tidy. We are looking forward to host her again and totally recommend her as guest! ✨
The van of Jordi was perfect to spend nice holiday on the island. Tasteful and cute decoration, everything was prepared great for us. The van itself was compact and easy to park and drive. We had small technical issues on the way but Jordi was very fast to deal with the problem so that we could enjoy the rest of the trip. It was our first travel with van and everything went smoothly in the end so I can recommend it to anyone!
