The Canary Islands stretch across seven main islands in the Atlantic Ocean, just 100 kilometres off the northwest coast of Africa, making them Europe's warmest year-round destination for road trips. From the volcanic landscapes of Timanfaya National Park on Lanzarote to the towering peak of Mount Teide on Tenerife — Spain's highest point at 3,718 metres — the archipelago offers extraordinary variety within short driving distances. Gran Canaria alone packs desert dunes at Maspalomas, lush laurel forests in Doramas, and dramatic cliff roads near Agaete into an island just 47 kilometres across. Fuerteventura's 150 kilometres of coastline reward slow exploration, while La Palma's Caldera de Taburiente showcases one of the world's largest erosion craters. The distance from the southern tip of Tenerife to the northern port of Santa Cruz is roughly 90 kilometres, yet the terrain shifts from arid coastal plains to misty pine forests. Travelling by campervan lets you wake up to ocean views one morning and volcanic moonscapes the next, all at your own pace. With Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across the islands, choosing from campervans and motorhomes suited to each island's roads and your travel style. It is a practical, flexible way to discover the full character of the Canary Islands.
The Canary Islands enjoy mild temperatures between 18°C and 28°C throughout the year, making them ideal for campervan travel in any season. February brings the famous Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, one of the world's largest carnival celebrations, while September hosts the Fiesta de la Rama in Agaete on Gran Canaria. Peak season runs from December to March, when northern Europeans flock south for winter sun — booking early on Yescapa gives you the best choice of vehicles from local owners. Spring and autumn offer quieter roads and comfortable conditions for exploring the islands' volcanic interiors and coastal routes by motorhome.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Explore Lanzarote across roughly 120 km from Arrecife through Timanfaya National Park to the Papagayo beaches in the south. Along the way, stop at Jameos del Agua and the wine region of La Geria. Roads are wide and well suited to a campervan, with parking areas dotted along the coast.
Drive roughly 150 km along Fuerteventura's coast from Corralejo in the north to Morro Jable in the south. Along the route, enjoy the dunes of Parque Natural de Corralejo and the fishing village of Ajuy with its sea caves. The flat terrain makes this route comfortable even in a larger motorhome.
Circle Tenerife across roughly 300 km and experience the island's diversity: from the Anaga mountains in the northeast through Teide National Park to the cliffs of Los Gigantes in the west. Stop in La Orotava and the historic town of San Cristóbal de La Laguna. A campervan handles the mountain roads well, while coastal stretches accommodate larger vehicles too.
Experience Gran Canaria across roughly 350 km from Las Palmas through the Maspalomas dunes to the mountain village of Tejeda and Roque Nublo. Visit the Jardín Canario botanical garden and the old quarter of Vegueta. The mix of coastal motorway and mountain roads keeps this route varied — a campervan handles both with ease.
Connect three islands across roughly 500 km of driving plus ferry crossings. Start on Tenerife, take the ferry to La Gomera to explore Garajonay National Park, then continue by ferry to La Palma and discover the Caldera de Taburiente. Ferries run regularly from Los Cristianos. This route suits a compact campervan that fits easily onto the ferries.
Experience four islands across roughly 600 km of driving plus ferry connections. Start in Gran Canaria, cross to Fuerteventura, continue to Lanzarote, and finish on Tenerife. From Roque Nublo through the Corralejo dunes to Timanfaya National Park and Mount Teide, this tour showcases the full breadth of the Canary Islands. Book ferry tickets in advance and choose a vehicle that works flexibly across all islands.

The Canary Islands offer a selection of campsites spread across different islands and landscapes — from coastal spots with ocean views to sites nestled in green mountain terrain. Many campsites provide pitches with electrical hook-ups, sanitary facilities, and motorhome service points. Some are located near natural parks with direct access to hiking trails. Whether you are travelling in a campervan or a larger vehicle, the Canary Islands have suitable sites to match.
The Canary Islands have no motorway tolls, so all roads are free to use across every island. Main highways like the TF-1 and TF-5 on Tenerife or the GC-1 on Gran Canaria are well-maintained dual carriageways connecting major towns. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3,500 kg are 80 km/h on motorways and 70 km/h on secondary roads. Mountain roads on islands like La Gomera and La Palma can be narrow and winding, so a campervan may be more practical than a larger vehicle. Rest areas with parking are available along major routes, though facilities vary between islands.
Vincenzo was super vriendelijk, behulpzaam en kwam zijn afspraken na. De camper was compleet en deed het fantastisch. We hebben erg genoten van onze reis.
Perfect car. Compact size, enough space, shower and 90´s vibe. Everything went smooth, and the VW is fun to drive. Thank you for this experience.
Great campervan rental experience! Clean, comfortable, and easy to drive. The owner was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!
We had a fantastic trip and would happily rent this RV again in the future. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a stress-free and enjoyable trip :)
Best owner you can possibly find. His vans are great all around and will take you anywhere you want smoothly. If things don’t go so smoothly no worries, André will handle any situation very professionally.
We rented the motorhome for a week and can really recommend others to do the same. It had everything you needed and was easy to drive! Rui was super helpful from beginning to the end, thank you!
