Gran Canaria's circular shape spans just 50 kilometres in diameter, yet it packs over 60 beaches and a remarkable range of microclimates that have earned it the nickname 'miniature continent.' From the towering Roque Nublo, a volcanic basalt monolith standing at 1,813 metres, to the sweeping dunes of Maspalomas stretching across 400 hectares of golden sand, the island rewards exploration at every turn. The drive from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the north to Puerto de Mogán in the south covers roughly 85 kilometres along the GC-1 motorway, while the scenic inland route from Tejeda to Artenara — two of the island's most elevated villages — is only 10 kilometres but winds through dramatic volcanic calderas. Coastal roads hug cliffsides in the west, and wide motorways connect the busier southern resorts, making the island well suited to both campervans and larger motorhomes. The historic quarter of Vegueta in Las Palmas, a UNESCO-listed district, and the Jardín Botánico Viera y Clavijo, the largest botanical garden in Spain, offer cultural stops between beach days. With Yescapa, you can hire a vehicle directly from local owners across Gran Canaria, choosing from a range of campervans and motorhomes that let you move freely between coast, mountains, and quiet rural villages at your own pace.
Gran Canaria enjoys mild temperatures year-round, making it a destination you can visit in any season. Spring brings the colourful Fiesta del Almendro en Flor in Tejeda, usually in late January or February, celebrating the island's almond blossom. September sees the Fiestas del Charco in La Aldea de San Nicolás, a unique traditional fishing festival. Summer is the most popular period for campervan travel, so booking your vehicle on Yescapa ahead of time is a smart move. Autumn and winter offer quieter roads and pleasant daytime temperatures around 20–24°C, ideal for exploring the mountainous interior. Hire outside peak months and you will often find better availability and more competitive peer-to-peer rates across the island.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Start in Maspalomas and follow the GC-500 west through Puerto de Mogán and its colourful marina, then continue to the fishing village of La Aldea de San Nicolás. This 120 km route hugs Gran Canaria's sunniest coastline, with plenty of beachside parking spots for your campervan. Stop at Güi Güi beach, accessible only on foot, for a memorable detour.
This 80 km route winds through Gran Canaria's volcanic interior, connecting Tejeda, Artenara, and Valleseco. Drive past the Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga, two iconic rock formations, and enjoy panoramic views from the Pico de las Nieves. The narrow mountain roads are best suited to a compact campervan. Campsites near Tejeda offer basic hook-ups and peaceful surroundings.
Circle the entire island on this 180 km route starting and ending in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Head south along the GC-1 motorway to Maspalomas, west to Mogán, north through Agaete and its natural pools, and back to the capital. The route suits motorhomes on the main roads and offers diverse landscapes from dunes to banana plantations. Allow extra time for the winding western stretch.
Explore Gran Canaria's lush north on this 150 km route from Las Palmas through Teror, Firgas, and Moya. Visit the Cenobio de Valerón, an archaeological site with over 300 ancient grain stores carved into rock. The road continues to the coastal town of Gáldar and its Cueva Pintada museum. Campervans handle the secondary roads well, and the cooler climate makes for comfortable overnight stays.
This 250 km route combines Gran Canaria's coastline with its volcanic heart. From Maspalomas, drive inland to the Caldera de Tejeda, then north to Arucas and its neo-Gothic church before looping back via the eastern coast through Telde and Ingenio. The mix of motorway and mountain road suits both motorhomes and campervans. Stop at the Barranco de Guayadeque for cave restaurants and archaeological sites.
This comprehensive 280 km route takes in every corner of Gran Canaria over one to two weeks. Begin in Las Palmas, head to the Bandama Caldera, continue south through Santa Lucía de Tirajana and on to Maspalomas. Travel the wild west coast to Agaete, explore the pine forests of Tamadaba Natural Park, and return via the central highlands. A campervan gives you the flexibility to linger at each stop and discover local markets along the way.

Gran Canaria offers a variety of campsites spread across the island, from coastal spots near the southern beaches to quieter sites in the mountainous interior. Many campsites provide full hook-ups for motorhomes, including electricity, water, and waste disposal, while smaller pitches cater to campervans. Facilities typically include showers, toilets, and laundry areas, and several sites sit within easy reach of hiking trails and local villages.
Gran Canaria's main motorways — the GC-1 (south) and GC-2 (north) — are toll-free and well maintained, connecting Las Palmas with the southern resorts. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3,500 kg are 80 km/h on motorways and 70 km/h on secondary roads, while lighter campervans follow standard car limits of 120 km/h and 90 km/h respectively. Inland roads such as the GC-60 through the central highlands are narrow and winding, with tight hairpin bends that suit smaller vehicles best. Rest areas with parking bays are available along the GC-1, though they are less frequent on mountain routes. Fuel stations are plentiful around Las Palmas and the south coast but sparser in the interior, so fill up before heading into the highlands.
We had a fantastic time in Sardinia, and the campervan was the perfect companion for our trip. The van ran smoothly, was incredibly cozy, and was well-equipped with everything we needed. We were especially impressed by the layout, which offers plenty of sleeping space for two plus two adults. A huge thank you to Séverine, who is a wonderful owner. Her warmth, kindness, and helpfulness truly made our experience special. We had a small challenge on our final night at the Alghero Laguna Blu campsite: we discovered the mosquito door nets a bit too late, which unfortunately allowed quite a few mosquitoes to get inside the van. For future renters, definitely remember to check for those nets early in the evening! We would highly recommend both the camper and Séverine to anyone planning a trip. We truly enjoyed our stay and would love to rent from her again.
We had a wonderful time traveling with this camper van! Antonio is extremely nice and very easy to communicate with. The van was clean, comfortable, and well stocked. Thanks to the solar panel, we did not need to worry about parking overnight in a place that had electricity. The check-in and check-out process with Antonio was very easy. One thing that would have been appreciated is a couple of bath towels and kitchen towels. We ended up purchasing a bath towel (Peppa Pig themed, the only towel we could find at Lidl haha) and left it with Antonio, so hopefully future renters can use that! Renters should keep in mind that this van does NOT have air conditioning. It might be easy to overlook this detail in the description. Overall, we are very happy we chose this van for our trip! Highly recommend. :)
Excellent experience. Owner contacted us in advance to arrange a time and pick up location. Owner went into detail at pick up of onboard services and how to use correctly.
André e Raquel são ótimos anfitriões. Eles responderam rapidamente todas as nossas dúvidas e foram muito corretos em tudo que combinamos. Voltaremos a manter contato com eles em uma proxima oportunidade.
We are more than happy about this experience and couldn't be happier with the service. The campervan was spotless and well-prepared when we picked it up. They always responded quickly to our messages and were incredibly friendly and easy to deal with. They provided bed linen, towels, and coffee, which made the trip even more convenient. They also kindly drove us to the airport for our early morning flight, which we really appreciated. Their attention to detail and customer service made all the difference. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a campervan rental in Spain.
Eric was fantastic and an incredible host! Everything was great and he was so helpful, and the car is so smooth to drive and stay in!
