Why choose Hastings for your road trip

Hastings — a city worth exploring

Hastings sits at the heart of the Heretaunga Plains, where over 70 wineries and orchards stretch across New Zealand's sunniest region, Hawke's Bay. The city's Art Deco architecture, rebuilt after the devastating 1931 earthquake, lines the streets alongside modern galleries and cafés. Explore Te Mata Peak, rising 399 metres above the plains with panoramic views across the coast and farmland, or wander through Splash Planet, one of New Zealand's largest theme and water parks. The Hastings City Art Gallery showcases contemporary works from local and national artists, while the Hawke's Bay Farmers' Market — held every Sunday at the Hawke's Bay Showgrounds — is one of the country's most popular producers' markets. Napier, the neighbouring Art Deco capital, is just 20 km to the northeast, and the Cape Kidnappers gannet colony lies roughly 30 km to the southeast along the coast. The flat terrain of the Heretaunga Plains makes driving a motorhome straightforward, with wide rural roads connecting vineyards, orchards, and coastal reserves. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners in the Hawke's Bay area, giving you the flexibility to pick up nearby and start exploring at your own pace. Renting peer-to-peer means a more personal experience and often a wider choice of vehicles suited to the region's relaxed touring style.

Best time to visit

Hastings enjoys a warm, dry climate that suits campervan travel for much of the year. Summer, from December to March, is ideal for vineyard visits and coastal drives. The Hastings Blossom Parade in September celebrates the start of spring with floats and festivities through the city centre. The Harvest Hawke's Bay festival in February brings food and wine events across the region. Booking your motorhome through Yescapa during the quieter autumn months, from April to May, can offer great peer-to-peer value while the weather remains pleasant for touring. Plan ahead for the summer period to secure the best selection of hire vehicles in Hastings.

Persone molto corrette, responsabili e piacevoli: li raccomando vivamente! Sarà un piacere rivedervi il prossimo anno. A presto! 🚐☀️

Elvira was super responsive, friendly and helpfull! We had a great experience going around Mallorca with the bus. The bus had everything what we need. Just be aware the bed length is 160cm as listed. But Elvira also has another bus with longer beds if wanted! Highly recommended.
