Corsica's GR20 trail stretches 180 kilometres across the island's mountainous spine, widely regarded as one of Europe's most challenging long-distance hiking routes. Yet this French island offers far more than rugged peaks — from the red granite cliffs of the Calanques de Piana to the ancient citadel of Bonifacio perched above limestone sea cliffs, every turn reveals a new landscape. The drive from Bastia in the north to Ajaccio in the south covers roughly 150 kilometres, winding through chestnut forests and mountain passes that make the journey as rewarding as the destination. Along the western coast, the Gulf of Porto is a UNESCO World Heritage site, while the eastern plains open up to long sandy beaches and calm lagoons near Ghisonaccia. Corsica's compact size — about 183 kilometres from north to south — makes it ideal for a road trip by campervan, with enough variety to fill weeks of exploration. Narrow mountain roads and scenic coastal stretches reward patient drivers with unforgettable views, and well-placed aires and campsites dot the island from Cap Corse to Porto-Vecchio. Through Yescapa, you can hire a motorhome or campervan directly from local owners across Corsica, giving you the flexibility to collect your vehicle near a ferry port and set off at your own pace. It is a peer-to-peer approach that keeps costs reasonable while connecting you with people who know the island best.
Corsica's ferry-friendly location makes it accessible from spring through autumn, with May and June offering wildflower-covered maquis and comfortable temperatures for driving. The Fêtes Napoléoniennes in Ajaccio each August celebrate the island's most famous son with parades and historical re-enactments, while the Festiventu wind festival in Calvi every October draws kite and sailing enthusiasts. Summer is the busiest season, so booking your campervan on Yescapa a few weeks ahead ensures the best choice of vehicles from local owners. September and early October bring warm seas and quieter roads — ideal for a relaxed motorhome tour along the coast. Whichever month you choose, Corsica rewards those who hire early and plan a flexible route.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Circle the finger-shaped peninsula at Corsica's northern tip, starting and ending in Bastia. Pass through the fishing village of Centuri, visit the Moulin Mattei windmill, and stop at the Romanesque church of Santa Maria in Canari. Around 130 km of narrow coastal road — a campervan is the ideal size for the tight bends and small harbours along the way.
Explore Corsica's northwest between Calvi and L'Île-Rousse, dipping inland to the hilltop villages of Sant'Antonino and Pigna. This 90 km route winds through olive groves and artisan workshops, with plenty of beachside campsites for overnight stops. A relaxed short trip that suits both campervans and motorhomes.
Follow Corsica's dramatic western coastline from Ajaccio to Calvi, passing through the UNESCO-listed Calanques de Piana and the Gulf of Porto. Stop at the Genoese tower in Porto and the Scandola Nature Reserve boat excursion point. Around 200 km with mountain passes and coastal stretches — allow extra time for photo stops and a campervan-friendly pace.
Cross Corsica's mountainous heart from Corte to Bavella, taking in the Restonica Gorge, the Vizzavona Forest, and the iconic Aiguilles de Bavella. This 350 km route through the island's interior passes Col de Bavella at 1,218 metres. Campsites with hook-ups are available in Corte and Zonza. Best suited to smaller motorhomes given the winding D-roads.
A complete loop of Corsica starting in Bastia, heading south along the eastern plain via Aléria and its Roman ruins, down to Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio, then north along the west coast through Propriano, Ajaccio, and back via the N193. Around 500 km with diverse landscapes — plan stops at campsites in each major town for a comfortable motorhome journey.
The ultimate Corsica road trip combines coast and mountains over 600 km, starting in Ajaccio and weaving through Sartène, Bavella, the Alta Rocca plateau, Corte, Cap Corse, and the Balagne. Detour to the Lavezzi Islands from Bonifacio and explore the Desert des Agriates by boat from Saint-Florent. A campervan gives you freedom to linger at each stop without worrying about hotel bookings.

Corsica offers a wide range of campsites spread from the northern cape to the southern tip, covering coastal, mountain, and rural settings. Whether you are travelling in a compact campervan or a larger motorhome, you will find pitches with electrical hook-ups, fresh water, waste disposal points, and modern shower blocks. Many coastal sites sit within walking distance of the beach, while inland options provide shade under pine and chestnut trees — a welcome feature during the warmer months.
Corsica has no motorways — the road network consists of national and departmental routes, most notably the N193 connecting Bastia to Ajaccio and the N198 along the eastern coast. There are no toll roads on the island, so travel is straightforward. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are 80 km/h on open roads and 50 km/h in built-up areas. Mountain roads, particularly the D84 through the Scala di Santa Regina gorge, can be narrow with tight hairpin bends, so vehicles wider than 2.2 metres should plan routes carefully. Rest areas with water refill points are spaced along the main routes, and fuel stations are less frequent in the interior — fill up before heading inland.
We had a fantastic time in Sardinia, and the campervan was the perfect companion for our trip. The van ran smoothly, was incredibly cozy, and was well-equipped with everything we needed. We were especially impressed by the layout, which offers plenty of sleeping space for two plus two adults. A huge thank you to Séverine, who is a wonderful owner. Her warmth, kindness, and helpfulness truly made our experience special. We had a small challenge on our final night at the Alghero Laguna Blu campsite: we discovered the mosquito door nets a bit too late, which unfortunately allowed quite a few mosquitoes to get inside the van. For future renters, definitely remember to check for those nets early in the evening! We would highly recommend both the camper and Séverine to anyone planning a trip. We truly enjoyed our stay and would love to rent from her again.
We had a wonderful time traveling with this camper van! Antonio is extremely nice and very easy to communicate with. The van was clean, comfortable, and well stocked. Thanks to the solar panel, we did not need to worry about parking overnight in a place that had electricity. The check-in and check-out process with Antonio was very easy. One thing that would have been appreciated is a couple of bath towels and kitchen towels. We ended up purchasing a bath towel (Peppa Pig themed, the only towel we could find at Lidl haha) and left it with Antonio, so hopefully future renters can use that! Renters should keep in mind that this van does NOT have air conditioning. It might be easy to overlook this detail in the description. Overall, we are very happy we chose this van for our trip! Highly recommend. :)
Excellent experience. Owner contacted us in advance to arrange a time and pick up location. Owner went into detail at pick up of onboard services and how to use correctly.
André e Raquel são ótimos anfitriões. Eles responderam rapidamente todas as nossas dúvidas e foram muito corretos em tudo que combinamos. Voltaremos a manter contato com eles em uma proxima oportunidade.
We are more than happy about this experience and couldn't be happier with the service. The campervan was spotless and well-prepared when we picked it up. They always responded quickly to our messages and were incredibly friendly and easy to deal with. They provided bed linen, towels, and coffee, which made the trip even more convenient. They also kindly drove us to the airport for our early morning flight, which we really appreciated. Their attention to detail and customer service made all the difference. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a campervan rental in Spain.
Eric was fantastic and an incredible host! Everything was great and he was so helpful, and the car is so smooth to drive and stay in!
