Why choose Frankfurt am Main for your road trip

Frankfurt am Main — a city worth exploring

Frankfurt am Main's skyline is the only one in continental Europe that rivals Manhattan, earning it the nickname 'Mainhattan' — a fitting introduction to Germany's financial capital on the River Main. The Römerberg, Frankfurt's medieval central square, has been the heart of city life since the 9th century and remains a must-see with its half-timbered façades. Culture lovers will find the Städel Museum, home to over 3,000 paintings spanning 700 years, and the nearby Senckenberg Naturmuseum, one of Europe's largest natural history collections. A stroll along the Museumsufer (Museum Embankment) lines up over a dozen museums on both banks of the Main. For green space, the Palmengarten botanical garden covers 22 hectares of tropical and subtropical plants. Beyond the city, the Taunus hills begin just 20 km north, offering forested trails and panoramic views, while Heidelberg sits roughly 88 km south — an easy day trip through the Rhine-Main region. Frankfurt's road network is excellent for larger vehicles, with wide autobahn connections in every direction and well-signposted routes into the city centre. Hiring a campervan here means you can explore both the urban highlights and the surrounding countryside at your own pace. With Yescapa, you can rent directly from local owners across the Frankfurt area, giving you a personal touch and flexible pick-up options that suit your travel plans. Whether you arrive by motorhome or choose a compact campervan, Frankfurt is a brilliant base for discovering central Germany.

Best time to visit

Frankfurt welcomes visitors year-round, with each season offering something special. The Museumsuferfest in late August draws over three million people to the riverbanks for art, music and food — book your campervan early for this popular weekend. Spring brings the Dippemess folk festival in April, one of the oldest fairs in the region, perfect for families. Summer is ideal for exploring the Taunus hills and Rhine Valley by motorhome, with long daylight hours and pleasant driving conditions. Autumn sees the Frankfurt Book Fair in October, the world's largest trade fair for books. Through Yescapa, you can often find better rates from local owners during quieter months like November or February, making a winter city break surprisingly affordable.

My experience with dominik’s van was mostly positive! Being from the US it was a bit more complicated but it worked out. The van was nicely designed one of a kind. Plenty of storage and space for 2 people. The vehicle was not ready when we arrived to pick up but was quickly resolved. Check in took a bit longer so prepare for this. Would’ve like to have everything ready for our trip but wasn’t too inconvenient. Mattress is a bit soft for trips over 4 nights. Van performed good overall. Very easy to drive, nice fridge once it gets going. Thank you dominik for allowing me to rent your vehicle. I recommend this van & would rent again!

We rented the campervan from Rogério and immediately received personal service, including a detailed explanation via an instructional YouTube video and a link to a website that perfectly organizes everything you need to know regarding operating the campervan. We really enjoyed using the campervan; it works amazingly well, and you can see that genuine, custom work went into it—like the number of USB outlets, the hangers/hooks, the ceiling fan, and so many other things. We had a great experience and will definitely come back.

Fantastic Campervan Hire Experience Great communication from the very beginning, and the campervan was exactly as described and shown in the listing. The vehicle drove very well, was clean, well-maintained, and surprisingly economical. Chris, the owner, was incredibly helpful throughout the whole process. A few days before pickup, he sent us helpful YouTube videos with instructions on how to use the campervan, which made everything much easier and really added to the overall experience. The pickup and return arrangements were also very convenient. We were able to drop the campervan off and Chris drove us to Düsseldorf Airport at the end of our holiday after a lovely weekend in Cologne, which was the perfect way to finish our trip. We would definitely hire from Chris again and highly recommend both Chris and Yescapa. The entire process was simple, straightforward, and enjoyable from start to finish.
