Alicante's Castillo de Santa Bárbara sits 166 metres above sea level on Mount Benacantil, offering panoramic views across the Mediterranean coastline. The city blends history and beach life in a way few places can match. Stroll along the Explanada de España, a mosaic-tiled promenade lined with palm trees, before heading to the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Alicante (MACA) housed in a 17th-century baroque building. The Concatedral de San Nicolás, with its serene Renaissance cloister, is another landmark well worth a visit. For a change of pace, the Mercado Central de Alicante is the place to pick up local produce, from fresh seafood to Turrón de Jijona. Beyond the city, the coastal town of Benidorm is just 45 km to the north-east, while the palm groves of Elche — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — lie only 27 km to the south-west. Alicante's wide coastal roads and well-maintained motorways make it easy to explore by campervan or motorhome, with plenty of space to park up near the shore. Through Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners in Alicante, giving you insider tips and a more personal start to your trip along the Costa Blanca.
Alicante enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year, making it a great destination in any season. June is especially lively with the Hogueras de San Juan festival, when the city lights up with bonfires and fireworks along the beaches. Spring and autumn are ideal for campervan travel, with comfortable temperatures and quieter campsites along the coast. Summer is the most popular season, so we recommend booking early on Yescapa to secure the best choice from local owners. Winter in Alicante still offers mild days perfect for exploring without the crowds — a real bonus for motorhome travellers who prefer a relaxed pace.
Alicante is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 45 km northeast along the AP-7 to Benidorm, a lively coastal city with long sandy beaches. Stop at the Serra Gelada Natural Park for clifftop walks with sea views, and visit the old town's Mirador del Castillo for a panoramic lookout. Campervan parking is available near Poniente beach, making it easy to stay overnight.
Drive 85 km south to Torrevieja, known for its pink salt lagoons at the Parque Natural de las Lagunas de La Mata y Torrevieja. Walk the Paseo Vista Alegre along the seafront and explore the Museo del Mar y de la Sal. Several campsites with full hook-ups sit just outside town, ideal for a motorhome stopover.
Head 170 km southwest through Murcia, where the Cathedral de Santa María stands out in the old quarter, then continue to Cartagena's Roman Theatre and Museo Nacional de Arqueología Subacuática. The route follows wide motorways suited to any campervan. Campsites near Cartagena's coast offer sea views and easy beach access.
Travel 185 km north along the AP-7 to Valencia, Spain's third-largest city. Visit the futuristic Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, stroll through the Mercado Central, and explore the Jardines del Turia park built in a former riverbed. Motorhome parking areas are available on the city outskirts, with good public transport links into the centre.
Drive 260 km northwest into the heart of La Mancha, stopping in Albacete to visit the Museo de la Cuchillería and the Parque de Abelardo Sánchez. Continue to the windmills of Consuegra for a classic Don Quixote landscape. The inland roads are wide and quiet, perfect for a relaxed campervan journey through Spain's central plateau.
Cover 470 km northwest to Madrid via the A-31 and A-3 motorways. Along the way, stop in Elche to see the UNESCO-listed Palmeral, Europe's largest palm grove. In Madrid, explore the Museo del Prado, stroll through Retiro Park, and visit the Palacio Real. Campervan parking areas on the city's outskirts connect easily to the metro network.

Alicante and its surrounding coastline offer a good selection of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Many are located along the Costa Blanca, with pitches close to the sea and facilities including electrical hook-ups, showers, laundry rooms and Wi-Fi. Whether you prefer a beachside spot or a quieter inland setting among orange groves, you'll find options within easy reach of Alicante's city centre and main attractions.
Parking a motorhome or campervan in Alicante is straightforward if you know where to look. The city centre has height-restricted underground car parks, so larger vehicles should head for open-air areas on the outskirts. Overnight parking in a motorhome is permitted in designated areas, but wild camping is not allowed within the city limits. We recommend arriving early during summer weekends to secure a spot near the coast.
Pepe was lovely from beginning to end. All of our requests were accommodated and he was responsive when needed. The pickup service was very nice, even though we were a bit delayed at the beginning (also around 23.30) he still patiently waited for us at the airport without a hassle. This made the beginning of the trip very nice and the small gift was consumed almost immediately, thank you once again. ;) The van was super also, the bad is very very comfy, I am 183 cms and it was perfect for my height. The AC is a very nice addition also, which made even the staying in the blazing sun bearable in the van. Would recommend both the host and the van to anyone!
We had a superb long weekend trip in Gonçalo’s converted van and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Gonçalo was a very friendly owner and always responded promptly to all our questions, which made everything easy and stress-free from the beginning. The van came with everything we needed and was very well prepared for our trip. It was comfortable, practical, and perfectly suited for our family of four. Gonçalo was also incredibly helpful throughout, which we really appreciated. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend both Gonçalo and his van to anyone looking for a great family campervan experience.
Perfect. Everything went smoothly, good communication, owners very friendly, the vehicle was just as described and in very good condition. We can definitely recommend for future renters!
Mathieu was easy to communicate with and flexible. The van is perfect- simple, well organized, and very comfortable for sleeping. Mathieu equips the kitchen with some basics, and 2 camping chairs- it is really nice.
We had a great Motorhome Experience in the Dordogne area in France! Guy’s motorhome had everything we needed for a comfortable and adventurous stay. A great kingsize bed (for a motorhome anyway…) and large fridge, warm water, heating everything is there. If you’re looking for a reliable modern motorhome rental , we highly recommend renting Guy’s motorhome. Marian & Wim.
