Sicily's Valle dei Templi in Agrigento preserves seven ancient Greek temples dating back to the 5th century BC, forming one of the most significant archaeological sites in the Mediterranean. The island stretches across 25,711 square kilometres, making it the largest in the Mediterranean Sea, with a coastline that runs for over 1,000 kilometres. From the active summit of Mount Etna — Europe's tallest active volcano at 3,357 metres — to the baroque towns of Noto and Ragusa in the southeast, every corner rewards exploration. The drive from Palermo to Catania covers roughly 210 kilometres along the A19 motorway, while the coastal route from Trapani to Syracuse spans around 400 kilometres, winding past fishing villages, salt flats, and sandy beaches. Inland, rolling hills and citrus groves open up quieter roads ideal for slow travel. A campervan gives you the flexibility to follow the coast at your own pace, while a motorhome offers extra comfort for families tackling longer stretches. With Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, you can hire a vehicle directly from local owners across Sicily — in Palermo, Catania, Messina, and beyond — choosing from a wide range of layouts and sizes to match your trip perfectly.
Sicily welcomes travellers comfortably from April through to October. Spring is ideal for exploring the almond blossoms around Agrigento and attending the Festa di Sant'Agata in Catania each February, one of the largest religious festivals in Italy. Autumn brings the grape harvest season, with wine festivals across the island's vineyards in Marsala and on the slopes of Etna. Summer is the most popular period, so booking your campervan early on Yescapa helps you secure the best choice from local owners. Shoulder months like May and September offer pleasant temperatures and quieter roads — perfect for a motorhome trip along the coast.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 250 km tour runs from Palermo past the Temple of Segesta and the Trapani salt flats to Marsala. You'll drive along Sicily's western coast, visit the Zingaro Nature Reserve and taste Marsala wine at local producers. Well suited to motorhomes.
Over 350 km you'll explore Sicily's eastern side: from Catania to Etna National Park, on to Taormina with its Greek theatre, and along the Ionian coast to Syracuse. Campsites with hook-ups sit at the foot of the volcano. Suitable for both campervan and motorhome.
From Messina to Cefalù and on to Palermo, this 400 km route follows Sicily's Tyrrhenian coast. Stop at Tindari for its sanctuary and lagoon lakes, take a ferry from Milazzo to the Aeolian Islands, and enjoy fresh seafood in Cefalù. Plenty of well-equipped campsites along the way.
This 600 km loop takes you right around Sicily: Palermo, Trapani, Agrigento, Ragusa, Syracuse, Catania and back via Cefalù. You'll experience ancient temples, volcanic landscapes and fishing villages. Allow at least a week to enjoy the island's diversity at a relaxed pace.
Over 550 km you'll combine coastal stretches with Sicily's interior. From Catania head to Piazza Armerina and the Villa Romana del Casale, continue to Enna, then Agrigento and along the southern coast through Gela before looping back. Away from the main routes you'll find quiet pitches among olive groves.
From Syracuse through Noto and Modica to Ragusa Ibla, this 180 km route crosses the heart of Sicilian baroque. Along the way you'll find UNESCO World Heritage sites, artisan chocolate workshops in Modica and campervan-friendly pitches overlooking the Iblean Mountains.

Sicily offers campsites for every taste — from beachfront pitches to green inland sites at the foot of Mount Etna. Many provide electrical hook-ups, service points for fresh water and waste disposal, and sanitary facilities designed for both motorhomes and compact campervans. Whether on the western coast near Trapani or in the south-east close to Syracuse, you'll find well-equipped campsites across Sicily throughout the year.
Sicily's motorway network includes the A19 (Palermo–Catania), A20 (Palermo–Messina), and A18 (Messina–Catania). Most Sicilian motorways are toll-free, which is a welcome bonus for longer trips. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are 100 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on dual carriageways. Rest areas with fuel stations and parking appear regularly along the main routes. Some mountain stretches, particularly on the A19 through the interior, include tunnels and gradients — keep your headlights on and maintain a steady speed. Coastal roads such as the SS187 near Trapani are narrower, so a campervan can be easier to manoeuvre than a larger vehicle.
Trip was great, Davide was easy to work worth and always responsive. Was crazy hot and sleeping was tough given the heat but overall everything worked great, van was easy to drive and gave us some amazing experiences in the Dolomites.
This couple were a pleasure to host. They were friendly, respectful, and took great care of the van throughout their trip. Communication was easy, and they returned the van clean and in excellent condition. Overall, they were lovely guests, and I'd be happy to host them again anytime. Highly recommended!
Stefan was easy to communicate with and responded to any questions promptly. The campervan was very comfortable and fuel efficient. The solar electricity worked flawlessly and allowed us to largely avoid commercial camps. Thanks for the great travel experience in your van.
Excelent guests!!! I can only recommend them to all fellow providers!
Don't let the old age of the campervan fool you it will still get you where you need to go and drive up the steep hills albeit with a small learning curve. The van has everything that you need and you can sleep in it comfortably. It does show a bit of it's age but that's part of the charm. Maria and Jake are great hosts who will take the time to show you how the vehicle works and purrs. They will also give you an extensive lists of sleeping spots, hikes and things to do in Sao Jorge which is greatly appreciated. If you want to sleep next to the ocean or on the hills of Sao Jorge, I recommend this van!
Excellent Camper Van. The owner Remy was super super responsive helpful and polite. Vehicle was easy to drive and excellent for travelling long distances especially on motorways. Thoroughly recommend the experience!
