Rennes sits at the confluence of the Ille and Vilaine rivers and is home to the Parlement de Bretagne, a 17th-century courthouse that survived a devastating fire in 1994 and was painstakingly restored over a decade. The old town is a maze of half-timbered houses, with over 280 colourful medieval façades lining streets like Rue Saint-Michel and Place des Lices, where one of France's largest Saturday markets fills the square each week. The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes holds works by Rubens and Picasso, while the Parc du Thabor — a 10-hectare botanical garden — offers rose collections and formal French landscaping right in the city centre. For science fans, the Espace des Sciences at Les Champs Libres features a planetarium and interactive exhibits. Rennes also makes a superb base for wider exploration: Mont-Saint-Michel is roughly 80 km to the north-east, and the beaches of Saint-Malo sit about 75 km to the north-west, both easy drives in a campervan. The surrounding Breton countryside is gentle and well-served by wide national roads, making it comfortable territory for larger vehicles. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in Rennes, which means flexible pick-up points across the city and genuine tips on the best routes through Brittany. Rennes rewards those who take the time to wander its streets and use it as a launchpad for the Breton coast.
Rennes is a wonderful destination throughout the year. The Festival des Tombées de la Nuit in early July fills the city with open-air performances and street art, while the Trans Musicales festival in early December draws music lovers from across Europe. Spring and autumn bring comfortable temperatures for exploring Brittany's countryside by campervan, with quieter campsites and more availability. Booking through Yescapa gives you access to competitive peer-to-peer pricing, especially outside peak summer weeks. Plan ahead for July and August to secure the best choice of vehicles in Rennes.
Rennes is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Drive 110 km south to Vannes on the Gulf of Morbihan. Wander the medieval walled town, visit the Aquarium de Vannes and take a boat to the Île-aux-Moines and Île d'Arz. Campsites with motorhome pitches ring the gulf. A side trip to the Carnac megaliths, 35 km further west, is well worth the detour on this route through southern Brittany.
Head 75 km north to the walled port of Saint-Malo. Walk the ramparts, visit the Grand Aquarium and detour to Cancale for fresh oysters on the harbour wall. Well-equipped campervan pitches line the coast between the two towns. A stop in medieval Dinan, perched above the Rance, adds an extra highlight to this short trip.
Just 55 km south-west of Rennes, the Forêt de Brocéliande is steeped in Arthurian legend. Visit the Centre de l'Imaginaire Arthurien, hike to Merlin's Tomb and discover the Miroir aux Fées in the Val sans Retour. Narrow forest lanes suit a compact campervan. Overnight pitches are available in Paimpont beside the lake.
Around 230 km west of Rennes, the Pointe du Raz marks one of the westernmost points of mainland France. En route, stop in Quimper to admire the Gothic Cathédrale Saint-Corentin and visit the harbour town of Douarnenez. Coastal roads are well maintained with regular service areas. A pause in Locronan, one of France's most beautiful villages, adds charm to this extended campervan journey through Finistère.
About 150 km north-west of Rennes, the Côte de Granit Rose dazzles with pink rock formations along the shore. Walk the Sentier des Douaniers at Ploumanac'h, visit the Aquarium Marin de Trégastel and stop in Perros-Guirec. Motorhome service points dot the coastline. A ferry from Pointe de l'Arcouest to the Île de Bréhat rounds off this memorable coastal tour.
Roughly 350 km south-east of Rennes, the Loire Valley beckons with its famous châteaux. Visit the Château de Chambord, the Château de Chenonceau and stroll through the old town of Amboise. Wide roads along the Loire suit motorhomes well. Break the journey in Le Mans, 165 km from Rennes, to explore the Cathédrale Saint-Julien and the medieval Cité Plantagenêt quarter.

Rennes offers several parking options suitable for motorhomes and campervans. Height restrictions apply in most city-centre car parks, so it is advisable to use peripheral car parks instead. Overnight stays in vehicles are generally not permitted on public car parks; use designated service areas or nearby campsites. Always check signage for maximum vehicle height before entering any underground facility.
We picked up the van without any issues. The van matched the description and pictures and was very nicely decorated. The owners were lovely and even let our dog play with theirs whilst we unpacked our stuff into the van. We spent 2 weeks in the van and had no issues. It was the perfect size for 2 people and a dog. There was no issues dropping the van off after our trip. We would definitely recommend!
Tiago and Maria are amazing people! checkin and and checkout was very convenient and everything was very well explained! The motorhome is very well equiped and confortable, has everything for a family trip, I recommend it for great adventures!
Super friendly guests! Everything went smoothly from the beginning to the end of the rental. They treated the campervan with great care, and communication was always easy and pleasant. We'd be delighted to welcome them back anytime they decide to visit Andalucía again.
100% recommend. Such a kind and welcoming family. Everything was explained in detail when we arrived so we understood how everything worked onboard. The RV itself is stunning and has everything you need included. We were 2 adults and 2 kids (8 and 4) that spent 2 weeks traveling through northern Spain. Plenty of sleeping space, kitchen was large enough to prepare meals indoors if need be. The engine was powerful enough through the mountains and the size of the RV we had no problems navigating the narrow mountain roads and town. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
Alles super, Fahrzeug, Vermieter und Ablauf!
We had the best trip with the van "Fiona" we rented by Cuca - the most amazing host. There was no problems with the van, and it was driving great for an old car. The van also had everything we needed like a portabel shower, a sink with running water, a cooler and a much needed parasol. Cuca recommended the best beaches and places, and responded quickly to any questions we had. We cant recommend Cuca and the van enough!
