Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Nevada

Nevada — a region worth exploring

Nevada stretches across 286,382 square kilometres of basin-and-range terrain, making it the seventh-largest US state yet one of the least densely populated — ideal conditions for a road trip with real breathing room. From the neon energy of Las Vegas to the eerie stillness of the Black Rock Desert, the landscape shifts dramatically as you travel. The 580 km drive from Las Vegas north to Reno crosses through vast valleys flanked by more than 300 named mountain ranges, while the 160 km route from Tonopah to Great Basin National Park leads you to Wheeler Peak, standing at 3,982 metres. Along the way, you can explore Valley of Fire State Park with its red sandstone formations, wander the ghost town of Rhyolite near Beatty, or gaze at the night sky in one of the darkest corners of the continental United States. Lake Tahoe, shared with California on Nevada's western border, offers alpine scenery and crystal-clear waters that feel worlds apart from the desert floor. The state's wide, open roads and generous pull-off areas make it wonderfully suited to campervan and motorhome travel, with plenty of space to park up and take in the view. Through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across Nevada, choosing from a range of vehicles that suit your group size and travel style.

Best time to visit

Spring and autumn are particularly rewarding times to hire a campervan in Nevada. April to June brings comfortable temperatures across the desert and access to higher-elevation routes as snow clears. September and October deliver warm days and cool nights — perfect for camping under Nevada's famously clear skies. The annual Burning Man festival draws visitors to the Black Rock Desert each late August, so book well ahead if you plan to be in northern Nevada around that time. The Great Reno Balloon Race, held every September, is another highlight worth timing your trip around. With Yescapa, peer-to-peer pricing often means better value outside peak summer months, and Nevada's mild winters still allow comfortable motorhome travel in the southern desert regions.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Nevada

Nevada's interstate highways are toll-free, so you can travel the length of the state without paying road charges. Interstate 15 and US Route 93 are the main corridors in the south, while Interstate 80 crosses the north. Speed limits for motorhomes and larger vehicles are typically 105 km/h (65 mph) on interstates, though some rural stretches allow up to 120 km/h (75 mph) for standard vehicles — always check posted signs for your vehicle class. Fuel stations can be far apart on routes like US Route 50 and State Route 375, so fill up whenever you can. Rest areas are well maintained along major interstates but scarce on remote highways.

Our trip was wonderful from start to finish. The owners were extremely kind, helpful, and responsive. They explained everything clearly before departure, replied quickly to our questions, and were always available whenever we needed assistance. We were also provided with a detailed guidebook, which was very useful throughout the trip. Although it was my first time driving a camper van, I found it surprisingly easy and comfortable to drive. The van was very clean and well equipped. Everything we needed was already inside, including two tables, chairs, a frying pan, a cooking pot, and many other useful essentials. It was clear that a lot of thought had gone into making the van practical and comfortable for travelers. Overall, we had an excellent experience and would highly recommend both the camper van and its owners. Thank you for helping make our holiday so enjoyable! :)
