Hamburg is the only city-state in Germany that also functions as a federal state, home to Europe's third-largest port and over 2,500 bridges — more than Venice, Amsterdam, and London combined. The Speicherstadt warehouse district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stretches along the canals of the HafenCity quarter, while the Elbphilharmonie concert hall rises dramatically above the River Elbe. From Hamburg's centre, the North Sea coast at Cuxhaven is roughly 120 km to the northwest, and the charming medieval town of Lüneburg sits just 55 km to the southeast. The Altes Land, one of the largest contiguous fruit-growing regions in northern Europe, borders Hamburg to the south and is ideal for leisurely drives through orchards and dyke-lined roads. Flat terrain and well-maintained roads make Hamburg and its surroundings particularly easy to navigate by motorhome or campervan, whether you are heading towards the sandy beaches of the Elbe estuary or exploring the heathlands of the Lüneburger Heide. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners across the Hamburg region, choosing from a wide range of vehicles to suit your travel style. The peer-to-peer model means competitive prices and personal tips from hosts who know the area — a great way to start your northern Germany adventure.
The best time to hire a campervan in Hamburg is from May to September, when long daylight hours make it easy to explore the Elbe riverbanks and nearby coastline. The Hamburger DOM, one of Germany's largest funfairs, runs three times a year — the summer edition in July and August is especially popular. Autumn brings the Altes Land apple harvest from mid-September, a wonderful reason to take a motorhome trip through the orchards south of Hamburg. Booking through Yescapa during the shoulder months of May or September often means better availability and more competitive peer-to-peer rates, while still enjoying pleasant conditions for outdoor travel across northern Germany.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.

Hamburg and its surrounding region offer a good selection of campsites for both campervan and motorhome travellers. Along the Elbe you will find riverside pitches with electric hook-ups and modern sanitary facilities, while sites further south in the Lüneburger Heide provide spacious woodland settings. Coastal campsites near Cuxhaven add a seaside option with direct beach access. Most sites offer fresh water, waste disposal, showers, and Wi-Fi.
Germany's motorways (Autobahnen) are toll-free for cars and motorhomes under 7.5 tonnes, making Hamburg an affordable base for road trips. The A1 and A7 intersect near the city, connecting you quickly to the North Sea coast and Scandinavia. Motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes must observe a speed limit of 100 km/h on motorways, while those under 3.5 tonnes follow the advisory limit of 130 km/h. Rest areas with dedicated motorhome service points appear regularly along major routes. Keep in mind that Hamburg has a low-emission zone (Umweltzone) — you will need a green environmental sticker to drive through the city centre.

Ok
We had a truly wonderful experience with Tobia and his motorhome. The vehicle was in perfect condition, practically like new, very clean, comfortable, and extremely well maintained. It was the perfect companion for our summer family trip and gave us everything we needed for a fantastic camping experience. From even before the pick-up, communication with Tobia was excellent. He was always responsive, helpful, and genuinely did his best to solve any issues, provide us with all the information we needed, and take our particular situation into consideration. We really appreciated his kindness and flexibility throughout the whole rental. The motorhome itself was very comfortable to drive and surprisingly fuel-efficient, which was a big plus during our long trip. We spent several weeks travelling with it as a family, and it truly made our summer holiday very special and memorable. I would highly recommend both Tobia and this motorhome to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. We would definitely choose this motorhome again for our next trip. Thank you, Tobia, for helping make our family holiday such a great experience!
Todo genial. Gracias
