Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airport — a region worth exploring

Edinburgh Airport handles over 14.7 million passengers annually, making it Scotland's busiest airport and a major gateway for exploring the country by road. Located just 13 km west of Edinburgh city centre, near the M8 and M9 motorways, it offers quick access to the Scottish Highlands, the Borders, and the east coast. From the airport, the A90 leads north across the Forth Road Bridge towards Perth and Dundee, while the M8 connects west to Glasgow in around 70 minutes. Heading south, the A720 city bypass links to the A1, opening up routes towards the Scottish Borders and Northumberland. The surrounding area includes attractions such as the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, the Pentland Hills Regional Park, Linlithgow Palace, and the Kelpies sculpture near Falkirk. Edinburgh Airport sits within easy reach of the Firth of Forth coastline, where quieter roads wind through fishing villages like South Queensferry and North Berwick. For those planning a road trip from here, a campervan gives you the flexibility to set your own pace, whether you are heading for the Isle of Skye or looping through the Cairngorms National Park. A motorhome offers extra space for longer journeys across Scotland's varied terrain. Through Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners based near Edinburgh, choosing from a wide range of vehicles that suit your group size and travel plans. It is a practical, personal way to start your Scottish adventure right from the terminal.

Best time to visit

Edinburgh is a fantastic base for a campervan trip year-round. From May to September, long daylight hours make it easy to cover ground on routes heading north into the Highlands. August brings the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world's largest arts festival, filling the city with energy before you hit the road. The Hogmanay celebrations in late December draw visitors for Scotland's famous New Year festivities. Spring and autumn offer quieter roads and excellent availability on Yescapa, where peer-to-peer pricing often means better value outside peak summer months. Book ahead for July and August to secure the best choice of motorhome or campervan from local owners near Edinburgh Airport.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Edinburgh Airport

Scotland's motorways are toll-free, so you can travel the M8 between Edinburgh and Glasgow or the M9 towards Stirling without any charges. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on single carriageways, while campervans under 3.5 tonnes follow standard car limits. The M90 north from the Forth Road Bridge is a well-maintained dual carriageway leading towards Perth. Once beyond the central belt, expect more single-track roads with passing places, especially in the Highlands. Rest areas and service stations are well spaced on major routes but less frequent on rural A-roads, so plan fuel stops accordingly.

It was our first time traveling with a camper, and renting this one for our trip around Mallorca turned out to be an absolutely amazing and unforgettable experience that exceeded all our expectations. The camper was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Everything was well-maintained and thoughtfully equipped, which made our first camper trip easy and enjoyable. Communication with Gustavo was excellent from start to finish. He always responded very quickly, was friendly and helpful, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. He also shared some fantastic recommendations for places to visit and park around the island, which made our trip even better. We couldn't have asked for a better first camper experience and would highly recommend both the camper and Gustavo to anyone planning a trip to Mallorca. We would happily rent it again in the future!

It was perfect. The owner is a very nice guy who picked us up from Funchal to get to Machico and explained everything about the car. The car included everything that was needed for our roadtrip. The tent is spacious and the amenities were of good quality. Overall it was an amazing experience to enjoy the island this way!
