Why choose Bozeman for your road trip

Bozeman — a city worth exploring

Bozeman sits at 1,460 metres above sea level in the Gallatin Valley, framed by four mountain ranges and home to Montana State University's Museum of the Rockies, which houses one of the world's largest collections of dinosaur fossils. The city's historic Main Street district stretches across several blocks of independent shops, galleries, and restaurants, while the American Computer & Robotics Museum chronicles the history of computing in a surprisingly engaging way. Outdoor access is a major draw — the Hyalite Canyon Recreation Area lies just 24 km south, offering reservoirs, waterfalls, and well-maintained trails. Yellowstone National Park's north entrance at Gardiner is roughly 130 km to the south, and Big Sky Resort sits about 72 km to the southwest, making Bozeman an ideal base for exploring southwest Montana. The Gallatin Valley's wide, open roads and well-signed routes make driving a motorhome here straightforward, even for first-timers. Through Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner in the Bozeman area, which often means personalised tips on the best routes and campsites. Whether you're heading into the mountains or cruising through ranch country, picking up a campervan in Bozeman puts you right at the crossroads of some of Montana's most rewarding landscapes.

Best time to visit

Bozeman's outdoor season runs strong from June through September, when trails are clear and campsite access is at its best. The Sweet Pea Festival of the Arts in early August fills the city with live music, theatre, and local food — a great reason to plan your trip around that time. Autumn brings golden aspens and quieter roads, ideal for a campervan tour without the summer crowds. Hiring through Yescapa gives you access to peer-to-peer pricing, which can be especially helpful during peak months. We recommend booking your motorhome early for July and August, as Bozeman is a popular gateway to Yellowstone.

My partner and I rented the motorhome for 6 days and had a great time! It had everything we needed for the trip, and we didn’t have a single issue with it. Andre was extremely responsive and helpful throughout, always quick to answer our questions and provide guidance on anything we threw his way 🙂 Highly recommended!

We had an absolutely fantastic experience with Martin’s van. We travelled through Belgium, France and Switzerland for a month and never had any issues. The van was reliable, comfortable, and had everything we needed for our trip. Martin was excellent to deal with from start to finish. He was always quick to respond to our messages, which was especially reassuring as we were travelling all the way from Australia. He was genuinely helpful, friendly, and a pleasure to deal with. The van was supplied with everything we needed, including utensils, a table and chairs, and all the essentials for a great holiday on the road. The awning was a real bonus and was easy to set up, providing a lovely space to sit and relax. We would highly recommend Martin and his van to anyone looking to explore Europe. We had an amazing month and would happily hire from Martin again for our next adventure!
