Lisboa's Vasco da Gama Bridge stretches 12.3 km across the Tagus estuary, making it the longest bridge in the European Union. The Portuguese capital sits on seven hills along the northern bank of the River Tagus, offering a landscape that blends historic neighbourhoods with wide riverside promenades. Explore the Jerónimos Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Belém, then wander through the narrow lanes of Alfama to reach the Castelo de São Jorge for panoramic views over the city's terracotta rooftops. The Museu Nacional do Azulejo, housed in a former 16th-century convent, showcases five centuries of Portuguese tile art. For something more contemporary, the MAAT — Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology sits right on the waterfront. Sintra is just 30 km to the northwest, where the colourful Palácio da Pena awaits, while the surf town of Ericeira lies 50 km north along the Atlantic coast. Lisboa's riverside roads and well-connected motorways make it easy to navigate by campervan, and the surrounding region offers plenty of space to park up and explore at your own pace. With Yescapa, you can hire a motorhome directly from a local owner — a peer-to-peer approach that means more choice, better value, and personal tips from someone who knows the area. Whether you are planning a city break or a longer coastal adventure, picking up a campervan in Lisboa puts you right where the journey begins.
Lisboa enjoys a mild Atlantic climate that makes it a great destination year-round. The Festas de Lisboa in June fill the city with street parties, grilled sardines, and parades honouring Santo António — book your campervan early for this popular month. Summer brings warm, dry days ideal for combining city sightseeing with beach stops along the Cascais coast. Autumn and winter are quieter, with comfortable temperatures for exploring on foot and easier campsite availability in the surrounding region. Through Yescapa, peer-to-peer pricing often means better rates outside peak season, so hiring a motorhome in Lisboa between October and April can be especially good value.
Lisbon is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Just 30 km northwest of Lisbon, Sintra is home to the Palácio da Pena and the Moorish Castle. Continue to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe. Roads through the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park are winding but well maintained. Campervan parking is available near the town centre.
Setúbal sits 50 km southeast of Lisbon on the edge of the Arrábida Natural Park. Visit the beaches of Portinho da Arrábida and sample fresh fish at the Mercado do Livramento. The Serra da Arrábida offers coastal hiking trails with sea views. Campsites with pitches for campervans line the nearby coast.
Head 130 km north from Lisbon to Óbidos, a medieval town enclosed by intact fortress walls. Continue to Nazaré, famous for its giant waves at Praia do Norte. Visit the Farol da Nazaré lighthouse and the Sítio viewpoint above the beach. Motorhome parking areas are well signposted in both towns.
Coimbra lies 190 km north of Lisbon and is home to one of Europe's oldest universities, the Universidade de Coimbra, with its baroque Biblioteca Joanina. Wander the old town and visit the Sé Velha, a Romanesque cathedral. Green spaces line the banks of the Mondego river. Well-equipped campsites sit on the outskirts of the city.
Porto sits 280 km north of Lisbon and greets you with the iconic Ponte Dom Luís I spanning the Douro. Visit the Livraria Lello, the Torre dos Clérigos, and the port wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. Along the way, stop in Aveiro to see its colourful moliceiro boats. Campervan pitches are available along the Atlantic coast route.
The Algarve begins around 300 km southeast of Lisbon, offering coastal landscapes from Faro to Lagos. Explore the rock formations at Ponta da Piedade, wander the old town of Tavira, and relax at Praia da Marinha. The EN125 runs along the entire southern coast. Around Lisbon, you will find campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Some sit right on the Atlantic coast with direct beach access, while others nestle in the green hills near Sintra or along the south bank of the Tagus. Most sites offer electric hook-ups, shower and toilet blocks, and Wi-Fi. The area around Lisbon provides enough variety to choose between peaceful nature spots and well-connected bases for city exploration.
Lisbon offers several parking options for motorhomes and campervans. Note that city-centre parking is restricted for larger vehicles — underground car parks often have a 2.10 m height limit. Use car parks on the outskirts with good public transport links instead. Overnight sleeping in vehicles on public roads is not permitted in Lisbon, so designated motorhome areas are the best option.
Stefan was easy to communicate with and responded to any questions promptly. The campervan was very comfortable and fuel efficient. The solar electricity worked flawlessly and allowed us to largely avoid commercial camps. Thanks for the great travel experience in your van.
Excelent guests!!! I can only recommend them to all fellow providers!
Don't let the old age of the campervan fool you it will still get you where you need to go and drive up the steep hills albeit with a small learning curve. The van has everything that you need and you can sleep in it comfortably. It does show a bit of it's age but that's part of the charm. Maria and Jake are great hosts who will take the time to show you how the vehicle works and purrs. They will also give you an extensive lists of sleeping spots, hikes and things to do in Sao Jorge which is greatly appreciated. If you want to sleep next to the ocean or on the hills of Sao Jorge, I recommend this van!
Excellent Camper Van. The owner Remy was super super responsive helpful and polite. Vehicle was easy to drive and excellent for travelling long distances especially on motorways. Thoroughly recommend the experience!
