Why choose Lisbon for your road trip

Lisbon — a city worth exploring

Lisboa's Vasco da Gama Bridge stretches 12.3 km across the Tagus estuary, making it the longest bridge in the European Union. The Portuguese capital sits on seven hills along the northern bank of the River Tagus, offering a landscape that blends historic neighbourhoods with wide riverside promenades. Explore the Jerónimos Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Belém, then wander through the narrow lanes of Alfama to reach the Castelo de São Jorge for panoramic views over the city's terracotta rooftops. The Museu Nacional do Azulejo, housed in a former 16th-century convent, showcases five centuries of Portuguese tile art. For something more contemporary, the MAAT — Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology sits right on the waterfront. Sintra is just 30 km to the northwest, where the colourful Palácio da Pena awaits, while the surf town of Ericeira lies 50 km north along the Atlantic coast. Lisboa's riverside roads and well-connected motorways make it easy to navigate by campervan, and the surrounding region offers plenty of space to park up and explore at your own pace. With Yescapa, you can hire a motorhome directly from a local owner — a peer-to-peer approach that means more choice, better value, and personal tips from someone who knows the area. Whether you are planning a city break or a longer coastal adventure, picking up a campervan in Lisboa puts you right where the journey begins.

Best time to visit

Lisboa enjoys a mild Atlantic climate that makes it a great destination year-round. The Festas de Lisboa in June fill the city with street parties, grilled sardines, and parades honouring Santo António — book your campervan early for this popular month. Summer brings warm, dry days ideal for combining city sightseeing with beach stops along the Cascais coast. Autumn and winter are quieter, with comfortable temperatures for exploring on foot and easier campsite availability in the surrounding region. Through Yescapa, peer-to-peer pricing often means better rates outside peak season, so hiring a motorhome in Lisboa between October and April can be especially good value.

Where to park your motorhome

Parking a motorhome or campervan in Lisbon requires a bit of planning, but several dedicated areas make it straightforward. Overnight parking in the city centre is restricted for larger vehicles, so we recommend using designated motorhome areas on the outskirts and taking public transport into town. Lisbon's metro and tram network connects most parking zones to the main sights within 20 minutes. Always check height restrictions before entering underground car parks.

  • Parking Expo – Parque das Nações, 7km northeast — Large open-air car park in the Parque das Nações district with generous height clearance. Close to the Oceanário de Lisboa and well served by metro.
  • Área de Serviço de Autocaravanas de Monsanto, 7km west — A dedicated motorhome service area in the Monsanto Forest Park, with water, waste disposal, and electricity. Well-connected to the city centre by bus.
  • Parque de Estacionamento do Cais do Sodré, 1km south — Central car park near the Cais do Sodré transport hub. Suitable for smaller campervans during daytime visits. Check height limits before entering.

Pepe was lovely from beginning to end. All of our requests were accommodated and he was responsive when needed. The pickup service was very nice, even though we were a bit delayed at the beginning (also around 23.30) he still patiently waited for us at the airport without a hassle. This made the beginning of the trip very nice and the small gift was consumed almost immediately, thank you once again. ;) The van was super also, the bad is very very comfy, I am 183 cms and it was perfect for my height. The AC is a very nice addition also, which made even the staying in the blazing sun bearable in the van. Would recommend both the host and the van to anyone!

We had a superb long weekend trip in Gonçalo’s converted van and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Gonçalo was a very friendly owner and always responded promptly to all our questions, which made everything easy and stress-free from the beginning. The van came with everything we needed and was very well prepared for our trip. It was comfortable, practical, and perfectly suited for our family of four. Gonçalo was also incredibly helpful throughout, which we really appreciated. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend both Gonçalo and his van to anyone looking for a great family campervan experience.

Mathieu was easy to communicate with and flexible. The van is perfect- simple, well organized, and very comfortable for sleeping. Mathieu equips the kitchen with some basics, and 2 camping chairs- it is really nice.

We had a great Motorhome Experience in the Dordogne area in France! Guy’s motorhome had everything we needed for a comfortable and adventurous stay. A great kingsize bed (for a motorhome anyway…) and large fridge, warm water, heating everything is there. If you’re looking for a reliable modern motorhome rental , we highly recommend renting Guy’s motorhome. Marian & Wim.
