Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge has spanned 214 metres across the Avon Gorge since 1864, making it one of the most recognisable landmarks in the south-west of England. The city sits at the confluence of the rivers Avon and Frome, and its harbourside area has been transformed into a lively cultural quarter home to We The Curious, an interactive science centre, and M Shed, a museum telling the story of Bristol through the eyes of its people. Art lovers will find the Arnolfini gallery on the waterfront, while street art trails across Stokes Croft and Bedminster showcase the city's creative spirit, shaped in part by the anonymous artist Banksy. For green space, the Bristol Zoo Project in South Gloucestershire offers a rewilding-focused experience just 6 km north of the centre. Beyond the city, Bath is only 19 km south-east along the A4, and the Cheddar Gorge sits roughly 40 km to the south-west, both ideal for day trips. Bristol's road network connects easily to the M5 and M4 motorways, giving campervan travellers smooth access to the Cotswolds, South Wales, and the Devon coast. Narrow lanes around Clifton Village and the old harbour can be tight for larger vehicles, so planning your route in advance is worthwhile. With Yescapa, you can hire a motorhome or campervan directly from local owners in Bristol, which means flexible pick-up points across the city and genuine tips from people who know the area best.
Bristol welcomes visitors year-round, with each season offering something special. The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta in August fills the sky with over 100 hot-air balloons and draws large, cheerful crowds to Ashton Court Estate. In September, the Bristol Harbour Festival brings music, food, and boat displays to the waterfront. Summer is the busiest period for campervan travel, so booking your vehicle on Yescapa a few weeks ahead ensures the best choice from local owners. Spring and autumn are ideal for exploring the Avon Gorge and nearby Cotswolds with quieter roads and comfortable driving conditions. Winter brings festive markets to Broadmead and the harbourside, perfect for a cosy short break.
Bristol is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Just 19 km south-east, Bath is famous for its Roman Baths and Georgian Royal Crescent. Stroll through the city centre, visit Bath Abbey, and relax at the Thermae Bath Spa. The Bath & West Showground nearby offers motorhome-friendly parking. The A4 route between the two cities is straightforward and scenic along the Avon valley.
Drive 120 km south from Bristol to reach the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore Lyme Regis for fossil hunting, then continue to Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. Campsites along the Dorset coast welcome campervans with sea-view pitches. Allow three to five days to enjoy the coastal paths and charming harbour towns at a relaxed pace.
Cross the Severn Bridge and head 150 km west to Pembrokeshire, home to Britain's only coastal national park. Visit St Davids, the UK's smallest city, and walk the cliff paths around Barafundle Bay. Broad Haven and Tenby offer well-equipped campsites with hook-ups. The roads through South Wales are motorhome-friendly, with plenty of laybys for rest stops.
Head 40 km south-west from Bristol to Cheddar Gorge, England's largest gorge. Walk the cliff-top trail for panoramic views, then explore Gough's Cave below. Stop at Cheddar village for local cheese tasting. Campervan parking is available at the gorge's main car park, though spaces fill quickly on weekends — arrive early to secure a spot.
Set off 210 km south-west from Bristol towards Cornwall for a week of coastal exploration. Stop at Padstow for fresh seafood, visit the Eden Project near St Austell, and catch the sunset at Land's End. Campervan-friendly campsites dot the Cornish coast, though booking ahead in summer is wise. The A30 offers a direct route once past Exeter.
Travel 250 km north-west from Bristol to Snowdonia National Park in North Wales. Hike up Snowdon via the Llanberis Path, explore the slate village of Blaenau Ffestiniog, and ride the Ffestiniog Railway through the mountains. Several campsites near Betws-y-Coed offer spacious pitches with mountain views. The M5 and A470 make the drive comfortable for larger vehicles.

Bristol and its surroundings offer a good range of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Within the city itself, options are limited, but the countryside of Somerset, the Mendip Hills, and the Severn Estuary are all within easy reach. Expect facilities such as electric hook-ups, modern shower blocks, waste disposal points, and Wi-Fi at most sites. Several campsites also welcome families with play areas and on-site shops, making Bristol a practical base for exploring the south-west.
Parking a motorhome or campervan in Bristol requires a bit of planning, as the city centre has height and length restrictions on many car parks. Overnight parking in public car parks is generally not permitted unless specifically signed. The council enforces a Clean Air Zone in the centre, so check your vehicle's emission class before entering. For larger vehicles, dedicated sites on the outskirts with park-and-ride bus links are the most practical option.
Sofia and Joaqim were really lovely! We enjoyed our trip a lot. The van was clean and had everything that was listed. We had no troubles with anything, it was super easy, convenient and cosy place to stay. We can honestly recommend it. 🥰❤️
It was our first time traveling with a camper, and renting this one for our trip around Mallorca turned out to be an absolutely amazing and unforgettable experience that exceeded all our expectations. The camper was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Everything was well-maintained and thoughtfully equipped, which made our first camper trip easy and enjoyable. Communication with Gustavo was excellent from start to finish. He always responded very quickly, was friendly and helpful, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. He also shared some fantastic recommendations for places to visit and park around the island, which made our trip even better. We couldn't have asked for a better first camper experience and would highly recommend both the camper and Gustavo to anyone planning a trip to Mallorca. We would happily rent it again in the future!
It was perfect. The owner is a very nice guy who picked us up from Funchal to get to Machico and explained everything about the car. The car included everything that was needed for our roadtrip. The tent is spacious and the amenities were of good quality. Overall it was an amazing experience to enjoy the island this way!
Great communication from Gladys and great van! Thanks for making our trip seamless!
Nice car, friendly and helpful people
