Bournemouth's seven miles of sandy coastline are divided into distinct beach zones by wooden groynes, a Victorian-era engineering solution still shaping the town's identity today. The Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, perched on the East Cliff, houses one of the finest collections of Japanese art outside Japan. Stroll through the Lower Gardens, a Grade II listed park stretching from the town centre to the seafront, or catch a show at the Pavilion Theatre, which has entertained audiences since 1929. Families and nature lovers will enjoy the Oceanarium Bournemouth, home to over 150 marine species along the promenade. Beyond the town itself, the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site begins just a short drive east, while Salisbury and its famous cathedral sit roughly 43 km to the north, and the New Forest National Park is only 20 km to the east — both ideal for day trips. Bournemouth's flat seafront roads and well-signed routes make it a comfortable base for campervan travel, with wide approach roads from the A31 and A338. Whether you plan to explore Dorset's coastline or head inland, hiring a motorhome through Yescapa connects you directly with local owners who know the best routes and overnight spots. A campervan rented from a Bournemouth local often comes with personal tips you simply will not find in a guidebook.
Bournemouth comes alive from May to September, when the Bournemouth Air Festival draws over a million spectators each August with spectacular aerial displays along the seafront. The Arts by the Sea Festival in late September fills the town with live performances and installations. Summer is the busiest period for campervan travel, so we recommend booking your hire on Yescapa early to secure the best choice from local owners. Peer-to-peer pricing often stays more competitive than traditional rental agencies, even during peak months. Spring and autumn bring quieter campsites and pleasant coastal walking weather, perfect for a relaxed Bournemouth break.
Bournemouth is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 50 km east along the Jurassic Coast to Lulworth Cove and the natural limestone arch at Durdle Door. Stop at Kimmeridge Bay for rock-pooling and visit Corfe Castle en route. Campervan parking is available at the Lulworth Heritage Centre car park, though spaces fill quickly in summer.
Drive 75 km west through Dorchester and Axminster to reach Exeter, home to the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and a striking Gothic cathedral. Break the journey at Lyme Regis for fossil hunting along the beach. Several well-equipped motorhome sites sit just outside Exeter city centre.
Travel 130 km north-east through the New Forest to Winchester, then continue into the South Downs National Park. Visit Winchester Cathedral, the Great Hall, and the market town of Petersfield. Campervan-friendly aires and certified sites are dotted throughout the Downs.
Cover 160 km north-west to Bath, famous for the Roman Baths and the Royal Crescent. Continue into the Cotswolds to explore Lacock, Castle Combe, and Tetbury. Roads through the Cotswolds are mostly B-roads, so a smaller campervan is ideal for navigating the narrow lanes.
A 220 km route south-west takes you from Bournemouth through Devon into Cornwall. Visit the Eden Project near St Austell and the harbour town of Padstow. End at St Ives for its Tate gallery and surfing beaches. Motorhome pitches along the Cornish coast are plentiful but book ahead in July and August.
Head 280 km west across the Severn Bridge into Wales to reach the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Explore Tenby's pastel-coloured harbour, St Davids — Britain's smallest city — and Barafundle Bay. Campervan touring here rewards you with clifftop pitches and quiet coastal roads.

Bournemouth and the surrounding Dorset countryside offer a good range of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Coastal sites give you direct beach access, while inland options provide a quieter setting among fields and woodland. Most sites feature electric hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and hardstanding pitches for larger vehicles. Several are open year-round, making Bournemouth a practical base in every season.
Bournemouth provides several options for parking larger vehicles, though the town centre streets can be narrow. Overnight parking in a motorhome or campervan on public roads is generally permitted unless local signage states otherwise, but always check for height barriers and time restrictions. The seafront car parks along the promenade accept taller vehicles in designated bays during the day, and several out-of-town sites offer more space for longer stays.
Sofia and Joaqim were really lovely! We enjoyed our trip a lot. The van was clean and had everything that was listed. We had no troubles with anything, it was super easy, convenient and cosy place to stay. We can honestly recommend it. 🥰❤️
It was our first time traveling with a camper, and renting this one for our trip around Mallorca turned out to be an absolutely amazing and unforgettable experience that exceeded all our expectations. The camper was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Everything was well-maintained and thoughtfully equipped, which made our first camper trip easy and enjoyable. Communication with Gustavo was excellent from start to finish. He always responded very quickly, was friendly and helpful, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. He also shared some fantastic recommendations for places to visit and park around the island, which made our trip even better. We couldn't have asked for a better first camper experience and would highly recommend both the camper and Gustavo to anyone planning a trip to Mallorca. We would happily rent it again in the future!
It was perfect. The owner is a very nice guy who picked us up from Funchal to get to Machico and explained everything about the car. The car included everything that was needed for our roadtrip. The tent is spacious and the amenities were of good quality. Overall it was an amazing experience to enjoy the island this way!
Great communication from Gladys and great van! Thanks for making our trip seamless!
Nice car, friendly and helpful people
