Zurich's Grossmünster church has stood watch over the Limmat River since the 12th century, its twin towers forming one of Switzerland's most recognisable skylines. The city blends old-world charm with a forward-thinking spirit — from the cobbled lanes of Niederdorf to the contemporary galleries of Kunsthaus Zürich, home to one of Europe's most important art collections. Stroll along Bahnhofstrasse for world-class shopping, then head to the Swiss National Museum to trace the country's cultural roots. Nature is never far away: Lake Zurich stretches south towards the Alps, and Uetliberg mountain offers panoramic views just a short ride from the centre. For those keen to explore further, Lucerne sits 52 km to the south, while the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen are roughly 50 km to the north — both ideal day-trip destinations. Zurich's well-maintained roads and clearly signposted routes make it a comfortable base for touring by campervan or motorhome. With Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across the Zurich area, giving you a personal touch and flexible pick-up options that suit your schedule. Whether you plan to circle the lake or venture deep into the Swiss countryside, Zurich is a rewarding starting point for your next road adventure.
Zurich welcomes visitors year-round, though each season brings its own appeal. The Zürich Festspiele arts festival in June fills the city with music, theatre and dance, while the Knabenschiessen folk festival in September draws locals and travellers alike. Summer months are ideal for lakeside campervan trips, with long daylight hours and pleasant driving conditions. Booking early for July and August is wise, as it is the most popular season on Yescapa. Spring and autumn reward with quieter campsites and competitive hire prices from local owners. Winter brings festive Christmas markets along the Limmat — a magical backdrop for a short motorhome getaway.
Zurich is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Just 52 km south of Zurich, Lucerne charms with its Chapel Bridge and Lion Monument. Stop at Lake Zug along the way for a waterside break. Lucerne offers campervan-friendly parking near the lakefront, and a trip up Mount Pilatus by cog railway rounds off the visit. A perfect short getaway from the city.
Head 85 km north-east of Zurich to reach the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen, Europe's largest waterfall by volume. Visit Laufen Castle for the best vantage point and take a boat ride to the central rock. Schaffhausen's old town, with its painted façades, is well worth a stroll. Motorhome parking is available right at the falls.
Travel 130 km east of Zurich to reach the rolling hills of Appenzell and the 2,502-metre Säntis peak. Continue north to Lake Constance, stopping in Rorschach and across the border in Bregenz. En route, St. Gallen's UNESCO-listed Abbey Library is a must. Campsites along Lake Constance offer waterside pitches ideal for a campervan stay of several days.
Head 175 km south-east of Zurich into the alpine valleys of Graubünden, starting with the resort town of Davos. Cross the Julier Pass to reach the Engadin valley, where St. Moritz and the turquoise Lake Sils await. The route winds through dramatic mountain scenery on well-maintained pass roads. Pitches in Davos and the Engadin accommodate larger motorhomes comfortably.
Geneva lies 290 km south-west of Zurich, but the route through the Bernese Oberland turns the journey into an adventure. Stop in Interlaken between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, visit Grindelwald at the foot of the Eiger, then continue via Montreux on Lake Geneva. Campsites in Interlaken and Montreux offer lakeside access. Allow at least five days for this campervan tour.
Travel 310 km south of Zurich over the Gotthard Pass into Ticino, where the climate turns Mediterranean. Bellinzona and its three UNESCO-listed castles make an ideal first stop. Further south, Locarno and Ascona on Lake Maggiore invite you to linger. The Gotthard pass road is well maintained, or you can use the tunnel. Lakeside campsites on Lake Maggiore offer pitches with water views for your motorhome.

Around Zurich, you will find campsites suited to both campervans and larger motorhomes. Along Lake Zurich and in surrounding communities, several sites offer pitches with electrical hook-ups, sanitary facilities and direct lake access. Some campsites sit just a few kilometres from the city centre, making it easy to reach Zurich by public transport. Further afield, nature-oriented sites with mountain views provide a quieter alternative.
Zurich has specific parking rules for motorhomes and campervans. On-street parking for larger vehicles is time-limited, and overnight stays are not permitted in many residential areas. Designated motorhome parking areas and park-and-ride facilities on the outskirts offer a practical alternative. From there, the city centre is easily reached by tram or S-Bahn. Be aware of height restrictions in multi-storey car parks, which often cannot accommodate taller vehicles.
Vincenzo was super vriendelijk, behulpzaam en kwam zijn afspraken na. De camper was compleet en deed het fantastisch. We hebben erg genoten van onze reis.
Perfect car. Compact size, enough space, shower and 90´s vibe. Everything went smooth, and the VW is fun to drive. Thank you for this experience.
Great campervan rental experience! Clean, comfortable, and easy to drive. The owner was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!
We had a fantastic trip and would happily rent this RV again in the future. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a stress-free and enjoyable trip :)
Best owner you can possibly find. His vans are great all around and will take you anywhere you want smoothly. If things don’t go so smoothly no worries, André will handle any situation very professionally.
We rented the motorhome for a week and can really recommend others to do the same. It had everything you needed and was easy to drive! Rui was super helpful from beginning to the end, thank you!
