Why choose Toulouse for your road trip

Toulouse — a city worth exploring

Toulouse's Place du Capitole stretches across 12,000 square metres at the heart of a city built from distinctive pink terracotta brick, earning it the nickname La Ville Rose. Walking along the Canal du Midi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that runs through the eastern side of the city, you'll quickly understand why this corner of southwest France draws so many curious travellers. Key landmarks include the Basilique Saint-Sernin, one of the largest Romanesque churches in Europe, the Cité de l'Espace science park dedicated to space exploration, the Musée des Augustins housed in a former medieval monastery, and the Jardin des Plantes botanical garden. Carcassonne sits just 92 km southeast, while Albi and its remarkable cathedral are only 76 km northeast — both make excellent day trips. The surrounding landscape is gentle and motorhome-friendly, with wide roads connecting the Garonne valley to the foothills of the Pyrenees further south. Toulouse is also a major hub for campervan travel, with plenty of local owners sharing their vehicles through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform. Hiring directly from someone nearby often means flexible pick-up points across the city and personalised tips for your route ahead.

Best time to visit

Toulouse enjoys a warm southern climate that suits campervan travel from spring right through to autumn. The Fête de la Musique in June fills the streets with free concerts, while the Toulouse d'Été festival runs from July to August with open-air performances across the city. September and October bring comfortable temperatures and quieter campsite pitches, making it easier to explore at your own pace. Booking through Yescapa gives you access to competitive peer-to-peer rates, especially outside the peak summer weeks. Plan ahead for July and August to secure the best choice of vehicles from local owners in Toulouse.

If you’re looking for the perfect camper van, look no further! Sylvia’s van exceeded all of our expectations. It was spotless, incredibly comfortable, and equipped with absolutely everything we could possibly need. You can immediately tell how much care and attention Sylvia puts into making sure her guests have the best possible experience. What really made the difference was Sylvia herself. She was exceptionally kind, welcoming, and always quick to respond, making us feel supported from the moment we booked until the end of our trip. Thanks to her amazing van, we had an unforgettable adventure and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We would happily rent from Sylvia again and recommend her without hesitation to anyone looking for a reliable host and a fantastic camper van.

I loved tripping around the island with this van. It is equipped with many accessories as described, and some basic food condiments to get you started. Sleeping was comfortable, and handling the van itself too!

We had a fantastic trip in Joao's campervan. It was fully equipped with everything we needed. Every window has a mosquito screen, making it very easy to ventilate the van. It is also a very pleasant and reliable vehicle; we had no trouble driving up steep roads. It is an excellent campervan for 'off-grid' travel, as it comes with hot water, a large fridge, a toilet, ample water, and a large gas supply. We also never had any issues with the electricity, thanks to the solar panel. All windows can be blacked out at night. We highly recommend Joao's campervan. Communication was smooth throughout, too! Thank you very much!
