Why choose Stuttgart for your road trip

Stuttgart — a city worth exploring

Stuttgart's Fernsehturm, built in 1956, was the world's first television tower constructed from reinforced concrete and still offers panoramic views from 217 metres above the city. Nestled in a valley surrounded by vineyards and wooded hills, Stuttgart is a city that rewards curious travellers at every turn. Car enthusiasts can explore the Mercedes-Benz Museum and the Porsche Museum, both world-class institutions telling the story of automotive innovation. The Staatsgalerie Stuttgart houses an impressive collection spanning from medieval art to contemporary works, while the Wilhelma zoological and botanical garden is one of Europe's most species-rich combined zoos. For green space, the Schlossgarten stretches through the city centre, connecting the Neues Schloss to the Neckar riverbanks. Beyond the city, the Swabian Alb begins just 40 km to the south, offering dramatic limestone plateaus and hiking trails. Tübingen, a charming university town, sits only 30 km to the southwest along the Neckar. Stuttgart's hilly terrain and well-maintained roads make it a rewarding base for campervan exploration, with routes winding through vineyards and forest-lined valleys. Hiring a motorhome through Yescapa connects you directly with local owners across the Stuttgart area, giving you flexible pick-up options and personal tips for making the most of your trip. A campervan from a nearby owner means you can set off at your own pace and discover the wider Baden-Württemberg region with ease.

Best time to visit

Stuttgart comes alive from May to October, when warm weather opens up the region's outdoor attractions and vineyard trails. The Stuttgarter Weindorf in late August and early September transforms the city centre into a lively wine village with over 120 stalls serving local Trollinger and Riesling. In late September, the Cannstatter Volksfest — one of the largest beer festivals in the world — draws visitors from across Europe. Summer is the most popular season for campervan travel, so we recommend booking your hire on Yescapa early to secure the best choice from local owners. Spring and autumn bring comfortable driving conditions and quieter campsites across the Stuttgart region, ideal for a relaxed motorhome tour through the Swabian countryside.

The city has several dedicated motorhome parking spots and larger car parks that can accommodate taller vehicles. For longer stays, dedicated stellplätze (motorhome stopovers) on the outskirts offer a practical and affordable alternative.

  • P+R Degerloch, 6km south — Park and ride facility connected to the U-Bahn network, offering open-air spaces that can accommodate larger vehicles during daytime visits.
  • Wohnmobilstellplatz Fellbach, 10km northeast — Quiet motorhome stopover in neighbouring Fellbach with basic services and a short S-Bahn ride into Stuttgart city centre.

We had a superb long weekend trip in Gonçalo’s converted van and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Gonçalo was a very friendly owner and always responded promptly to all our questions, which made everything easy and stress-free from the beginning. The van came with everything we needed and was very well prepared for our trip. It was comfortable, practical, and perfectly suited for our family of four. Gonçalo was also incredibly helpful throughout, which we really appreciated. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend both Gonçalo and his van to anyone looking for a great family campervan experience.

Mathieu was easy to communicate with and flexible. The van is perfect- simple, well organized, and very comfortable for sleeping. Mathieu equips the kitchen with some basics, and 2 camping chairs- it is really nice.

We had a great Motorhome Experience in the Dordogne area in France! Guy’s motorhome had everything we needed for a comfortable and adventurous stay. A great kingsize bed (for a motorhome anyway…) and large fridge, warm water, heating everything is there. If you’re looking for a reliable modern motorhome rental , we highly recommend renting Guy’s motorhome. Marian & Wim.
