Baden-Württemberg is home to the Black Forest, a 6,000-square-kilometre expanse of dense woodland, deep valleys, and traditional cuckoo-clock villages that has shaped the region's identity for centuries. From the university city of Heidelberg in the north to the shores of Lake Constance in the south, the distance is roughly 280 km, offering an extraordinary variety of landscapes along the way. The Swabian Alb, a UNESCO Global Geopark, stretches across the centre of the region with dramatic limestone cliffs and cave systems, while the Rhine Valley forms a natural western border lined with vineyards and cycling paths. Stuttgart, the state capital, sits 130 km from Freiburg, and both cities serve as excellent starting points for exploring the surrounding countryside by campervan or motorhome. Smaller towns like Tübingen, with its half-timbered old quarter, and Baden-Baden, famous for its thermal baths, reward those who take the time to wander. The road network is well maintained, and many routes wind through gentle hills and river valleys that are easy to navigate in larger vehicles. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners across Baden-Württemberg, choosing from a wide range of vehicles to match your travel style. Whether you want a compact campervan for vineyard-hopping or a spacious motorhome for a family tour of the Black Forest, peer-to-peer sharing means more choice and a personal touch from people who know the region best.
Baden-Württemberg is wonderful to explore from spring through to autumn. May and June bring wildflower meadows across the Swabian Alb, while September is harvest season along the Baden Wine Road, with local wine festivals such as the Stuttgarter Weindorf in late August and early September. Summer is the most popular period for campervan travel, so booking your vehicle on Yescapa ahead of time is a smart move. Peer-to-peer hire often means more competitive pricing compared to traditional rental, especially outside July and August. Autumn colours in the Black Forest make October a rewarding month for a motorhome trip, with quieter roads and open campsites still available across the region.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travellers.

Baden-Württemberg offers a wide selection of campsites spread from the Black Forest valleys to the Lake Constance shoreline. Many sites provide full hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and dedicated pitches for both campervans and motorhomes. Whether you prefer a lakeside spot with mountain views or a quiet forest clearing, you will find well-equipped facilities across the region. Most campsites in Baden-Württemberg are open from Easter through to late October, with some operating year-round.
Motorways in Baden-Württemberg are toll-free for all vehicles, making road trips straightforward and budget-friendly. The A8 and A81 are the main arteries connecting Stuttgart to Lake Constance and the Black Forest. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are capped at 100 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on rural roads. Vehicles under 3.5 tonnes follow standard car limits unless otherwise signed. Rest areas with dedicated motorhome parking are well distributed along major routes. Be aware that some Black Forest passes have tight bends and gradients, so check your vehicle dimensions before heading into narrower mountain roads.
Pedro was the most helpful and kind renter! His camper is well kept and was perfect for our time along the coast of Portugal. The van ran great and was so comfortable for 3 to share. The storage made traveling with 3 longboards possible! I am so grateful for this camping experience. Thank you to Pedro for your attention to detail, guidance, and hospitality!
Super good experience! Caravan is old, but in a good condition, reliabale, very well kept very clean. It has lot of space and big bathroom and big tanks for clean and dirty water so it's very comfortable even for a longer period. Claudia and Andrea are very helpful and friendly, the best owners! No any problems occurred, I really enjoyed my time in Fuerteventura :) Thank you!
Consigliatissimi entrambi! Grazie Lucia, alla prossima avventura! ❤️
Daniel was very professional, explained all aspects of how the van and its accessories and furnishings functioned. Provided sheets, blankets, curtains and window coverings, and even coffee and tea! He was kind and helped me fill the tank at the end when my credit card didn’t work took us to a different station without complaining. We had no issues with the van but he was available by phone at any time if we would have needed him. It was a fantastic trip and we loved the camper van.
