Why hire a campervan or motorhome in State of Berlin

State of Berlin — a region worth exploring

Berlin's 891 square kilometres make it Germany's largest city by area, yet over a third of that space is covered by parks, forests, and waterways — including the sprawling Grunewald forest and the River Spree winding through the city centre. This unique blend of urban energy and green escapes makes Berlin an exceptional base for a campervan adventure. From the iconic Brandenburg Gate to the East Side Gallery's 1.3-kilometre stretch of painted Berlin Wall, history is woven into every neighbourhood. Drive 35 kilometres southwest to reach Potsdam and its UNESCO-listed Sanssouci Palace, or head 60 kilometres southeast to explore the tranquil waterways of the Spreewald biosphere reserve. Berlin's flat terrain and well-maintained roads are ideal for motorhome travel, with broad avenues and clearly signposted routes leading you from Alexanderplatz to the leafy shores of Müggelsee, the city's largest lake. The Tempelhofer Feld, a former airport turned open parkland, captures Berlin's talent for reinvention — a runway where families now cycle and kite-surf. Whether you want world-class museums on Museum Island or lazy afternoons by Wannsee beach, a campervan gives you the freedom to experience it all at your own pace. Through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, you can hire directly from local owners across Berlin, choosing from compact campervans to spacious motorhomes that suit your group and your plans perfectly.

Best time to visit

Berlin comes alive from May to September, when long daylight hours and warm temperatures make it perfect for campervan touring. June brings the Fête de la Musique on the 21st, with free open-air concerts across the city, while the Berlin Festival of Lights in October transforms landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate and Berlin Cathedral with spectacular illuminations. Summer is the busiest season, so we recommend booking your vehicle early on Yescapa to lock in the best choice from local owners. Spring and autumn offer quieter roads and comfortable touring weather, with campsite availability at its best. Yescapa's peer-to-peer model often means more competitive pricing outside peak months, giving you great flexibility for a Berlin motorhome trip.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in State of Berlin

Germany's Autobahn network is famously toll-free for vehicles under 7.5 tonnes, so most campervans and motorhomes travel without any toll charges around Berlin. The A10 Berliner Ring circles the city and connects to major routes like the A2 west towards Hanover and the A13 south towards Dresden. While some Autobahn sections have no speed limit for cars, motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are restricted to 100 km/h, and those under 3.5 tonnes to 120 km/h on unrestricted stretches. Berlin also has a low-emission zone (Umweltzone) covering the area within the S-Bahn ring — you will need a green environmental sticker to drive there. Rest areas with motorhome-friendly facilities appear regularly along the Autobahn.

Frequently asked questions

What our users say about our campervans and motorhomes in State of Berlin

Radosław
5 / 5

It was our first time in campervan and we got everything we needed. The car was comfortable, economical and fully equipped. We spent an unforgettable week during the total eclipse, although it was almost impossible to find available space on camping sites at that time. But the car batteries did great job so we could park even without the electricity access. The car used 8,9 l/100 km even though we almost didn't use highways. Carlos was very nice and helpful, he made our trip convenient and safe. We definitely recommend Carlos and his vehicle!

There was a small hiccup at first with the reservation, but it was solved quickly and from there on it was total bliss. The motorhome is absolutely top-notch, and the service was really warm and friendly. Despite the language barrier (we didn't speak much Spanish and they didn't speak much English), everything went very smoothly. So there's no need to worry if you don't speak their language — they have the means and experience to handle it. At the handover they walked us through the motorhome and gave us some camping tips and tricks, which made our trip very enjoyable. A big plus was the air conditioner in the living quarters.

Fantastic Family Experience with a Wonderful Host! We are a family of four and could not be more satisfied with our experience. The owner, Martial, was exceptionally helpful throughout the entire process. Before booking, he answered all of our questions promptly and consistently catered to our needs. During our trip, he went out of his way to check in on us and offered fantastic local advice and recommendations on places to visit. The pickup and drop-off processes were both seamless and efficient. The van itself is in excellent condition, extremely well-maintained, spotless, and fully equipped with everything you might need for a great trip—with practically everything working perfectly. We were also deeply touched by Martial’s kindness in picking us up at the airport, which made the start of our trip so much easier.

We had a fantastic family road trip in Carlos’s motorhome, visiting Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Schwarzwald, and Europa-Park. The vehicle had a few minor scratches from previous rentals and was due for a routine service, but Carlos assured us upfront not to worry about them, and it didn't affect our trip at all. The motorhome was well-equipped—having the onboard air grill was an especially nice touch! Pickup and drop-off were quick, straightforward, and hassle-free. We highly recommend Carlos and his motorhome.

The vehicle picture are old and today's vehicle condition are quite different; there are signs of rust on the bodywork and early signs of mold on the inner tent of the upper bed; few scratches to the vehicle are present but they do no demine its functionalities. Despite the fact that everything works, It has been frustrating to pull and push the rear seat back especially at the beginning of the journey, then we get it right with the experience; I personally recommend having the fold/unfold mechanism inspected and fixed. Anyhow, it allowed us to have a wonderful vacation and the robust engine never left us unsupported. Antonio is very supportive and responsive; he helped us with the logistics and gave us a few tips to start the travel.

This was our first experience with a camper. Aurora and Cristian were very helpful and the rental process was very easy and fast. The camper is quite old, but is very well maintained and fully functional. I would recommend this camper. We didn't had any issues during our trip.
