Why choose Seattle for your road trip

Seattle — a city worth exploring

Seattle's Pike Place Market has operated continuously since 1907, making it one of the oldest public farmers' markets in the United States. The city sits between Puget Sound to the west and Lake Washington to the east, with the Cascade Range visible on clear days. Must-see spots include the Space Needle, the Museum of Pop Culture designed by Frank Gehry, the Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibition, and the lively waterfront at Pier 57. Portland is roughly 280 km to the south, while the charming Bavarian-themed village of Leavenworth lies about 180 km to the east — both make for brilliant road trip additions. Seattle's layout along the waterfront and surrounding hills means you will find a mix of wide highways and steeper residential streets, so planning your route in a larger vehicle is worth a moment's thought. The good news is that the greater Seattle area has plenty of campsite options and open roads once you head beyond the city centre. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from a local owner, which often means flexible pick-up points across neighbourhoods like Ballard, Capitol Hill, or Fremont. This peer-to-peer approach keeps costs reasonable and gives you insider tips from someone who knows the region well. Whether you are chasing mountain views at Mount Rainier or island-hopping in the San Juans, a campervan rented through a local makes Seattle the ideal launch pad.

Best time to visit

Seattle shines from June to September, when long daylight hours and dry skies make it easy to explore by motorhome. The Seafair Festival in July and August brings hydroplane races and air shows across the city. Autumn is equally rewarding — the Bumbershoot arts and music festival in early September draws crowds to Seattle Center. For a quieter campervan trip with lower hire prices, consider late spring or early October, when campsite availability is generous and the roads are calmer. Booking through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform lets you compare options from Seattle owners year-round, often at rates below traditional rental agencies.

Where to park your motorhome

Seattle enforces specific rules for oversized vehicles, so it is worth checking posted signage in each neighbourhood. Street parking for motorhomes and campervans is generally limited to 72 hours in most residential areas, and some downtown streets restrict vehicles over a certain length during peak hours. Park-and-ride facilities on the outskirts offer a practical alternative — park your vehicle and ride the Link Light Rail into the city centre for the day.

  • Angle Lake Park-and-Ride, 20km south — Located near Sea-Tac Airport with direct Link Light Rail access, ideal for leaving your vehicle while exploring the city.
  • South Kirkland Park-and-Ride, 15km northeast — Situated east of Seattle across Lake Washington, offering bus connections into the city and ample parking space.

Alles super, Fahrzeug, Vermieter und Ablauf!

We had the best trip with the van "Fiona" we rented by Cuca - the most amazing host. There was no problems with the van, and it was driving great for an old car. The van also had everything we needed like a portabel shower, a sink with running water, a cooler and a much needed parasol. Cuca recommended the best beaches and places, and responded quickly to any questions we had. We cant recommend Cuca and the van enough!
