Roma's Colosseum welcomed over 7 million visitors in 2023, making it the most visited monument in Italy and a fitting symbol for a city that has shaped Western civilisation for nearly three millennia. Beyond the ancient arena, the Pantheon stands with its unreinforced concrete dome — the largest of its kind for over 1,300 years — while the Vatican Museums house one of the world's most important art collections, including the Sistine Chapel ceiling painted by Michelangelo. Stroll through Trastevere's cobbled lanes for local trattorias, or visit the Borghese Gallery to admire works by Bernini and Caravaggio. The Appian Way, one of the earliest Roman roads, offers a peaceful stretch for walking or cycling just south of the centre. Roma sits in the Lazio region on relatively flat terrain along the Tiber river, making it easy to navigate by road. Naples is roughly 225 km to the south, and Florence lies about 275 km to the north — both within comfortable reach for a longer trip. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across the city, giving you the freedom to explore Roma at your own pace and then head out to the coast or countryside whenever the mood strikes. Renting peer-to-peer means a more personal experience and often a better deal than traditional agencies.
Roma welcomes visitors warmly throughout the year. Spring brings the Natale di Roma festival on 21 April, celebrating the city's founding with parades and re-enactments across the historic centre. Autumn is ideal for exploring on foot, with comfortable temperatures and fewer queues at landmarks like the Colosseum. Summer is the most popular season for campervan travel, so booking your Yescapa hire early ensures the best choice of vehicles from local owners. Winter offers a quieter Roma, with Christmas markets at Piazza Navona adding a festive atmosphere. Campsites around the city stay open year-round, making it easy to find a pitch whenever you visit.
Rome is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Just 30 km south-west of Rome, Ostia Antica is one of the best-preserved Roman port cities. Explore the ancient theatre and thermopolia, then relax on the beach at Ostia Lido. Campervan parking is available near the coast, making this a perfect short getaway from the capital.
About 70 km south-east of Rome, Sperlonga is a whitewashed coastal village perched above the Tyrrhenian Sea. Visit the Grotta di Tiberio and the Archaeological Museum, then enjoy the beaches along the Via Flacca. Seaside campsites offer motorhome pitches with views over the water.
Around 130 km north of Rome, Orvieto sits atop a tufa cliff above the Paglia valley. The Duomo di Orvieto impresses with its Gothic façade, and the Pozzo di San Patrizio descends 62 metres underground. Stop at Lake Bolsena along the way. Lakeside campsites offer peaceful pitches for your campervan.
About 185 km north-east of Rome, the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park stretches across dense beech forests and mountain peaks. Use Pescasseroli as a base for hikes and keep an eye out for Marsican brown bears. Scanno offers a picturesque mountain village beside its lake. Campsites within the park provide pitches surrounded by nature.
Florence lies roughly 275 km north of Rome, easily reached via the A1 motorway. Along the way, stop in Orvieto and Siena with its shell-shaped Piazza del Campo. In Florence, the Uffizi Gallery and the Duomo with Brunelleschi's dome await. Campsites in the hills of Fiesole offer panoramic views over the city — a great base for your motorhome.
The Amalfi Coast begins roughly 280 km south-east of Rome, winding along dramatic cliffs above the Tyrrhenian Sea. Visit Positano with its pastel-coloured houses and the Cathedral of Amalfi. In Ravello, Villa Rufolo offers gardens with sea views. The roads are winding — a compact campervan is the best choice here. Campsites near Sorrento provide a convenient base.

Around Rome you will find campsites suited to both campervans and larger motorhomes. Many are set in the green hills north of the city or along the coast near Ostia, offering pitches with electric hook-ups, sanitary facilities and Wi-Fi. Several sites also feature swimming pools and small shops. Good public transport links make it easy to reach central Rome without driving.
Rome's historic centre lies within the ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato), which is closed to motorhomes and campervans without a permit. Outside this zone, several car parks accommodate larger vehicles. Overnight sleeping in your vehicle is generally not permitted on public car parks — use designated aires or campsites instead. Plan your arrival outside peak traffic hours for a smoother experience.
We picked up the van without any issues. The van matched the description and pictures and was very nicely decorated. The owners were lovely and even let our dog play with theirs whilst we unpacked our stuff into the van. We spent 2 weeks in the van and had no issues. It was the perfect size for 2 people and a dog. There was no issues dropping the van off after our trip. We would definitely recommend!
Tiago and Maria are amazing people! checkin and and checkout was very convenient and everything was very well explained! The motorhome is very well equiped and confortable, has everything for a family trip, I recommend it for great adventures!
Super friendly guests! Everything went smoothly from the beginning to the end of the rental. They treated the campervan with great care, and communication was always easy and pleasant. We'd be delighted to welcome them back anytime they decide to visit Andalucía again.
100% recommend. Such a kind and welcoming family. Everything was explained in detail when we arrived so we understood how everything worked onboard. The RV itself is stunning and has everything you need included. We were 2 adults and 2 kids (8 and 4) that spent 2 weeks traveling through northern Spain. Plenty of sleeping space, kitchen was large enough to prepare meals indoors if need be. The engine was powerful enough through the mountains and the size of the RV we had no problems navigating the narrow mountain roads and town. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
Alles super, Fahrzeug, Vermieter und Ablauf!
We had the best trip with the van "Fiona" we rented by Cuca - the most amazing host. There was no problems with the van, and it was driving great for an old car. The van also had everything we needed like a portabel shower, a sink with running water, a cooler and a much needed parasol. Cuca recommended the best beaches and places, and responded quickly to any questions we had. We cant recommend Cuca and the van enough!
