The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
Poitiers sits on a limestone plateau above the confluence of the Clain and Boivre rivers, and its Baptistère Saint-Jean, dating from the 4th century, is one of the oldest Christian buildings in France. The old town rewards exploration on foot, with landmarks like the Église Notre-Dame la Grande and its richly carved Romanesque façade, the Palais des Ducs d'Aquitaine, and the Musée Sainte-Croix, home to prehistoric and fine-art collections. Just 12 km south, Futuroscope is a theme park built around multimedia and motion-based attractions, making it a brilliant family stop. Châtellerault lies 36 km to the north, offering riverside walks along the Vienne and the Musée Auto Moto Vélo. The roads around Poitiers are wide and well-maintained, with gentle terrain that suits all vehicle sizes — ideal for a first motorhome trip. Surrounding countryside is a patchwork of sunflower fields and quiet villages, so you can park up and enjoy the calm without battling tight mountain passes. Hiring a campervan through Yescapa connects you with local owners in the Poitiers area, giving you flexible pick-up options and personal tips on the best routes. It is a peer-to-peer approach that keeps costs fair while letting you set off at your own pace to discover the Vienne département and beyond.
Poitiers comes alive in summer when Futuroscope extends its evening shows and the Festival des Expressifs fills the old town with street performance each June. Autumn is equally rewarding, with the Poitiers Film Festival in late November and quieter roads through the Vienne countryside. Campervan travellers will find plenty of well-serviced stopovers open from April to October, and booking through Yescapa during shoulder months often means better peer-to-peer rates. We recommend reserving your motorhome early for July and August, the most popular season, to lock in the widest choice of vehicles from local owners in the Poitiers area.
Poitiers is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
A short 55 km drive northeast from Poitiers brings you to Châtellerault, home to the Manufacture d'Armes and the elegant Pont Henri IV spanning the Vienne. Explore the Île Cognet nature reserve and enjoy riverside motorhome stopovers with hook-ups available at the municipal aire.
Cover 150 km southwest from Poitiers to reach the Atlantic port of La Rochelle. Along the way, pause at the medieval town of Saint-Maixent-l'École and the Marais Poitevin wetlands for a flat-bottomed boat ride. La Rochelle's Vieux Port and Aquarium make a rewarding finish. Campervan-friendly aires dot the coast.
Drive 100 km northeast from Poitiers into the Loire Valley. Visit the Château de Chenonceau and the Château de Villandry with its famous gardens. Tours itself offers the lively Place Plumereau and the Musée des Beaux-Arts. Several well-equipped motorhome aires line the Loire between Amboise and Tours.
Head 75 km southwest from Poitiers through the gentle Charente valley. Stop at the Abbaye de Saint-Savin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, then continue to Angoulême to explore its comic-strip murals and the Musée de la Bande Dessinée. Campervan parking is easy along the river quays.
Travel 220 km south from Poitiers into the Dordogne. Pass through Brantôme, the 'Venice of Périgord', and explore the prehistoric caves at Lascaux IV near Montignac. Périgueux rewards with its Byzantine Cathédrale Saint-Front and truffle markets. Narrow lanes in the Vézère valley suit a compact campervan best.
Set off 300 km southeast from Poitiers towards the Massif Central. Stop at Limoges for its porcelain workshops and the Musée National Adrien Dubouché, then climb into the Chaîne des Puys, a UNESCO-listed volcanic chain. Clermont-Ferrand's Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption is built entirely of dark lava stone. Mountain aires offer panoramic motorhome pitches.

All went well!
Ok
We had a truly wonderful experience with Tobia and his motorhome. The vehicle was in perfect condition, practically like new, very clean, comfortable, and extremely well maintained. It was the perfect companion for our summer family trip and gave us everything we needed for a fantastic camping experience. From even before the pick-up, communication with Tobia was excellent. He was always responsive, helpful, and genuinely did his best to solve any issues, provide us with all the information we needed, and take our particular situation into consideration. We really appreciated his kindness and flexibility throughout the whole rental. The motorhome itself was very comfortable to drive and surprisingly fuel-efficient, which was a big plus during our long trip. We spent several weeks travelling with it as a family, and it truly made our summer holiday very special and memorable. I would highly recommend both Tobia and this motorhome to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. We would definitely choose this motorhome again for our next trip. Thank you, Tobia, for helping make our family holiday such a great experience!
Todo genial. Gracias
