Nouvelle-Aquitaine stretches across 84,000 square kilometres, making it the largest region in mainland France by area. From the towering Dune of Pilat near Arcachon — Europe's tallest sand dune at around 100 metres high — to the medieval streets of Sarlat-la-Canéda in the Dordogne, this region rewards slow travel like few others. The Atlantic coastline runs for over 700 kilometres, linking surf towns such as Biarritz and Hossegor with tranquil oyster ports around the Bassin d'Arcachon. Inland, the distance from Bordeaux to Limoges is roughly 220 kilometres, crossing rolling vineyards, walnut groves and the limestone plateaux of the Périgord. Head south and you will find the foothills of the Pyrénées, where mountain passes connect green valleys and thermal spa towns like Salies-de-Béarn. Nouvelle-Aquitaine is ideal for exploring by campervan or motorhome: wide departmental roads wind through open countryside, and well-signed aires de service dot even the quieter corners. Whether you fancy a week among Cognac's distilleries or a fortnight tracing the Vézère Valley's prehistoric cave sites, a campervan gives you the flexibility to linger wherever the mood takes you. Through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, you can hire a vehicle directly from local owners across Nouvelle-Aquitaine, choosing from compact campervans to spacious motorhomes that suit your group and your route.
Nouvelle-Aquitaine enjoys a long touring season that runs from April through to October. Spring is a wonderful time to visit the Dordogne's gardens and catch the Fête de la Lamproie in Sainte-Terre each April. Summer brings lively festivals along the coast, including the Fêtes de Bayonne in late July, one of France's largest street celebrations. Autumn rewards with grape harvest activity across Bordeaux's vineyards and quieter roads inland. Booking through Yescapa's peer-to-peer model often means more competitive pricing outside peak July and August, so planning a campervan trip in June or September can be both comfortable and cost-effective across Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 420 km loop through Nouvelle-Aquitaine links Bordeaux, Saint-Émilion and Cognac, with vineyard stops and cellar visits along the way. Allow 5–8 days to enjoy the route at a relaxed pace in a campervan, with plenty of aires and campsites en route.
Covering 550 km over 7–11 days, this grand tour connects Bordeaux, Périgueux, Limoges and Poitiers before looping back to the coast. A motorhome is ideal for the varied terrain, and you will pass châteaux, river gorges and historic market towns throughout.
A 650 km journey from the Pyrénées foothills at Pau to the Atlantic shore at La Rochelle, best enjoyed over 10–15 days. The route passes through Salies-de-Béarn and the Marais Poitevin wetlands — a campervan keeps you flexible on quieter mountain roads.
A compact 180 km loop through the Dordogne valley, taking in Sarlat-la-Canéda and the Lascaux cave complex over 3–6 days. Narrow lanes suit a smaller campervan, and riverside campsites offer peaceful overnight stops in Nouvelle-Aquitaine's heartland.
This 250 km route hugs the Nouvelle-Aquitaine coastline from Bayonne to Saint-Jean-de-Luz and up to Hossegor over 3–6 days. Expect surf beaches, Basque villages and fresh seafood — motorhome-friendly parking areas sit close to each coastal stop.
Trace 350 km of Nouvelle-Aquitaine's Atlantic seaboard from Royan down to Capbreton over 5–8 days. Highlights include the Bassin d'Arcachon, the Dune of Pilat and pine-fringed lakes — well-equipped campsites welcome both campervans and motorhomes.

Nouvelle-Aquitaine offers a wide choice of campsites spread from the Atlantic coast to the rural interior. Coastal sites near the Landes and Basque Country often feature direct beach access, swimming pools and spacious pitches for motorhomes. Inland, you will find quieter sites along the Dordogne and Vézère rivers with electric hook-ups, shower blocks and shaded pitches suited to campervans. Many sites across Nouvelle-Aquitaine stay open from April to October, giving plenty of flexibility for longer trips.
Nouvelle-Aquitaine's motorway network includes the A10 from Paris to Bordeaux and the A63 running south towards the Spanish border, both of which are toll roads. Tolls can be paid by card or cash at booths, and a télépéage tag speeds things up for frequent users. Motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are classed in a higher toll category, so budget accordingly. Speed limits for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are 110 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on single-carriageway roads. Rest areas with motorhome-friendly parking appear regularly along major routes, and many include free water refill points.
Me and my girlfriend rentet Miguels Van for 4 days. We had some of the best 4 days of our lives - waking up to the sunset along the West coast and exploring beautiful places and beaches. We can highly recommend Miguel and his van🙏🏼.
Great guests who looked after the vehicle with care and returned it in excellent condition. A pleasure to rent to, and we’d gladly welcome them again!
Todo fue sencillo y claro. La caravana era excelente, limpia y cómoda. Pasamos unas vacaciones maravillosas.
Very well maintained vehicle. Alfredo took extra care to add more equipment we requested and was very responsive during the rent period.
