Why choose Phoenix for your road trip

Phoenix — a city worth exploring

Phoenix sits in the heart of the Sonoran Desert, making it the only major US city surrounded by more saguaro cacti than skyscrapers — the Desert Botanical Garden alone is home to over 50,000 desert plants. The city offers a fascinating mix of outdoor adventure and cultural depth. Visit the Heard Museum for one of the finest collections of Native American art in the country, or explore the Phoenix Art Museum, the largest art museum in the southwestern United States. For panoramic desert views, the trails at Camelback Mountain and South Mountain Park and Preserve — one of the largest municipal parks in North America — are well worth the effort. Scottsdale, just 16 km to the east, adds a lively arts district and excellent dining, while Tempe, 13 km southeast, is home to Arizona State University and Tempe Town Lake. The surrounding landscape is ideal for motorhome and campervan travel, with wide, well-maintained roads and plenty of space to roam. Phoenix is a brilliant base for longer desert road trips, and with Yescapa you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner — a peer-to-peer approach that often means more choice, better value, and personal tips on the best routes and stops around Phoenix and beyond.

Best time to visit

Phoenix is a year-round destination, with each season offering something different. October to April is the most popular period, when comfortable temperatures make it ideal for exploring by campervan. The Arizona State Fair runs from late September through early November, bringing rides, live music, and local food to the city. In March, the Cactus League spring training draws baseball fans from across the country. Booking a motorhome through Yescapa during these months gives you access to peer-to-peer prices that are often friendlier than traditional hire. Summer in Phoenix means long days and quieter campsites — a great time to plan early-morning hikes and enjoy the desert at a relaxed pace.

100% recommend. Such a kind and welcoming family. Everything was explained in detail when we arrived so we understood how everything worked onboard. The RV itself is stunning and has everything you need included. We were 2 adults and 2 kids (8 and 4) that spent 2 weeks traveling through northern Spain. Plenty of sleeping space, kitchen was large enough to prepare meals indoors if need be. The engine was powerful enough through the mountains and the size of the RV we had no problems navigating the narrow mountain roads and town. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

We had the best trip with the van "Fiona" we rented by Cuca - the most amazing host. There was no problems with the van, and it was driving great for an old car. The van also had everything we needed like a portabel shower, a sink with running water, a cooler and a much needed parasol. Cuca recommended the best beaches and places, and responded quickly to any questions we had. We cant recommend Cuca and the van enough!
