The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
Paris has been home to the Eiffel Tower since 1889, a 330-metre iron lattice structure that still ranks among the most visited paid monuments in the world. The city unfolds along the River Seine, with landmarks like the Musée d'Orsay, the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur, and the Jardin du Luxembourg offering a mix of art, history, and green space within walking distance of one another. Notre-Dame de Paris, currently undergoing its celebrated restoration, sits on the Île de la Cité at the geographic heart of the capital. Beyond the centre, Versailles is just 22 km south-west, while Giverny — where Monet painted his water lilies — lies 75 km north-west, making both ideal day trips by campervan. Paris is well connected by a ring road (the Boulevard Périphérique), and several dedicated motorhome service areas sit on the outskirts, so navigating in a larger vehicle is more straightforward than many first-timers expect. Renting through Yescapa means you can pick up a campervan or motorhome directly from a local owner in the Paris region, often at more flexible terms than traditional hire companies. With peer-to-peer choice ranging from compact vans to fully equipped family vehicles, you can match the right set of wheels to your trip — whether that is a weekend in Montmartre or a longer loop through the Île-de-France countryside.
Paris welcomes visitors comfortably from April to October. The Fête de la Musique on 21 June fills every neighbourhood with free live performances, while the Tour de France finale lights up the Champs-Élysées each July. Spring and early autumn bring pleasant driving temperatures and quieter campsites around the Île-de-France region. Summer is the most popular season, so we recommend booking your campervan on Yescapa a few weeks ahead to lock in the best peer-to-peer rates. Winter travellers can enjoy the Christmas markets at the Tuileries and lighter traffic on surrounding roads — a great time to hire a motorhome at lower seasonal prices.
Paris is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Around 60 km north of Paris, Chantilly is home to a grand château housing the Musée Condé, one of France's finest art collections. Explore the Great Stables and the surrounding Forest of Chantilly on foot or by bike. Campsites nearby offer peaceful motorhome pitches in a woodland setting.
Just 22 km south-west of Paris, the Palace of Versailles and its sprawling gardens await, along with the Grand Trianon. Stop in Sèvres on the way to visit the Musée National de Céramique. Campervan parking is available on the outskirts of Versailles with easy access to the palace grounds.
Roughly 130 km north-west of Paris, the route follows the Seine to Rouen. Visit the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen, which inspired Monet's famous series, and wander the medieval quarter around the Rue du Gros-Horloge. A stop in Giverny, 75 km before Rouen, takes you to Monet's garden and lily ponds.
Around 190 km east of Paris, Reims is the city of coronations. The UNESCO-listed Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims dazzles with stained-glass windows by Marc Chagall. Tour the Champagne cellars of Taittinger and Veuve Clicquot beneath the city. The A4 motorway is well suited to campervans, and dedicated parking areas sit close to the centre.
Around 290 km south-west of Paris, the Loire Valley unfolds with its famous châteaux. Visit the Château de Chambord, the Château de Chenonceau and the old town of Amboise. The A10 motorway is wide and well maintained. Campsites along the Loire offer riverside pitches — perfect for a multi-day road trip by campervan.
Around 350 km north-west of Paris, the Normandy coast awaits. Visit the D-Day landing beaches, the Mémorial de Caen and Mont-Saint-Michel on the border with Brittany. The area around Paris offers a solid choice of campsites suited to both campervans and larger motorhomes. Most are set in the green Île-de-France countryside, often beside rivers or near woodland. Facilities typically include electric hook-ups, modern shower and toilet blocks, Wi-Fi and pitches for vehicles up to 8 metres. You get easy access to the capital's sights while sleeping surrounded by nature.
Parking a motorhome or campervan in central Paris is heavily restricted. Most underground car parks have a height limit of 1.90 m, ruling out larger vehicles. The best approach is to use one of the Park-and-Ride (Parc Relais) sites on the outskirts and take the Métro into the centre. Overnight parking on public streets is not permitted in Paris, so plan to stay at a designated aire or campsite instead.
A really incredible experience with this van! We drove for 5 days down the coast and everything was perfect. Really handy cooking facilities, comfy bed and João explained everything to us perfectly, even giving us recommendations! He was also flexible with timings on returning the van. Cannot reccomend enough!
Everything went smooth with the rental, pickup and return of the camper. The camper had a few things that was not working, but overall it was a very good experience and a very good trip. Everything with the owner was good a easy going.
