New York State stretches over 141,000 square kilometres, from the Atlantic shores of Long Island to the vast wilderness of the Adirondack Park — the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States at over 24,000 square kilometres. Beyond the bright lights of New York City, the state reveals a remarkably diverse landscape for road trips. The drive from Manhattan to Niagara Falls covers roughly 650 km, passing through the rolling farmland of the Hudson Valley, the deep gorges of the Finger Lakes, and the flat plains along the Erie Canal. Head north from Albany to Lake Placid, a distance of about 180 km, and you will climb into the High Peaks region where 46 summits rise above 1,200 metres. Coastal travellers can explore Montauk Point Lighthouse at the eastern tip of Long Island, while history enthusiasts will find the United States Military Academy at West Point perched above the Hudson River. The Catskill Mountains offer winding roads through forested valleys, and Letchworth State Park — often called the Grand Canyon of the East — features three major waterfalls along the Genesee River. Travelling by campervan or motorhome gives you the freedom to connect these regions at your own pace. Through Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners across the state, choosing from a wide range of vehicles to match your route and group size. Whether you are circling the Finger Lakes or heading deep into the Adirondacks, peer-to-peer sharing means more choice and a personal touch for your New York State adventure.
New York State is a year-round destination, with each season offering something special. Late September to mid-October brings the famous autumn foliage, particularly spectacular along the Adirondack Northway and through the Hudson Valley. Summer, from June to August, is ideal for lakeside camping around the Finger Lakes and Thousand Islands. The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse runs each August and is well worth a visit. Spring opens up campsite availability across the state, and with Yescapa's peer-to-peer model you can often find competitive rates outside peak summer months. We recommend booking early for July and August, as these are the most popular months for campervan travel in New York State.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.

New York State offers a wide network of campsites spread from the Atlantic coast to the Adirondack wilderness. Many state-run campgrounds provide electric hook-ups, dump stations, and spacious pitches suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. Facilities typically include hot showers, flush toilets, and picnic areas. Whether you prefer lakeside spots in the Finger Lakes, mountain settings in the Catskills, or island camping along the St Lawrence River, New York State has a site to match your trip.
New York State's highway network includes the New York State Thruway (Interstate 90), a toll road running roughly 900 km from New York City to Buffalo. Tolls are collected electronically via E-ZPass or by post through the Tolls by Mail system — no cash booths remain. Speed limits for motorhomes and larger vehicles are generally 105 km/h on interstate highways and 90 km/h on state roads, though posted limits may vary. Rest areas with parking suitable for campervans and motorhomes are spaced regularly along the Thruway. Be aware that some parkways on Long Island and around New York City have low bridge clearances and prohibit vehicles over a certain height, so always check your route in advance.
Alles super, Fahrzeug, Vermieter und Ablauf!
We had the best trip with the van "Fiona" we rented by Cuca - the most amazing host. There was no problems with the van, and it was driving great for an old car. The van also had everything we needed like a portabel shower, a sink with running water, a cooler and a much needed parasol. Cuca recommended the best beaches and places, and responded quickly to any questions we had. We cant recommend Cuca and the van enough!
Everything went perfectly, the van was just what we wanted for our trip, would do it again.
Great
Nous avons vécu une expérience formidable, tant avec le van qu'avec Hervé et Muriel. Je recommande vivement leur véhicule : il est très confortable, facile à conduire et parfaitement équipé pour passer de superbes vacances. Encore merci pour tout.
