Madrid's Puerta del Sol marks Kilometre Zero, the exact centre from which all Spanish radial roads are measured. This capital city blends centuries of royal heritage with a thriving contemporary culture that rewards slow exploration. Stroll through the Parque del Retiro, a 125-hectare green space once reserved for the Spanish monarchy, then head to the Museo Nacional del Prado to see works by Velázquez and Goya. The Mercado de San Miguel, just steps from Plaza Mayor, offers local cheeses, cured meats, and seasonal tapas under an elegant iron-and-glass canopy. Art lovers can continue to the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, home to Picasso's Guernica, while architecture fans will appreciate the neo-Gothic Catedral de la Almudena overlooking the Manzanares River. Toledo sits only 72 km south, making it an easy day trip, and the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range begins roughly 50 km to the north, opening up scenic highland routes ideal for a motorhome getaway. Madrid's wide ring roads and well-signposted exits make navigating in a campervan straightforward, even for first-timers. Through Yescapa, you can hire a vehicle directly from a local owner, often picking up right in the city — a practical, peer-to-peer way to start your road trip from the heart of Spain.
Madrid welcomes visitors year-round, with each season offering its own appeal. Spring is ideal for exploring on foot and by campervan, as the Feria del Libro takes over Parque del Retiro every late May and early June. Autumn brings the Noche en Blanco cultural festival in September, when museums and galleries open their doors after dark. Summer days are long and sunny, perfect for combining city sightseeing with trips to the nearby Sierra de Guadarrama. Winter keeps things cosy with festive Christmas markets around Plaza Mayor. Booking a motorhome through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform often means more flexible pricing outside peak summer months, so planning ahead for spring or autumn can be a smart move.
Madrid is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Toledo sits 72 km south of Madrid and was once the capital of the Spanish Empire. Visit the Catedral de Santa María and the Museo del Greco. Roads are well maintained, and parking for larger vehicles is available on the outskirts. In a campervan you can also reach the nearby windmills of Consuegra.
Segovia lies 91 km northwest of Madrid, reached via the Guadarrama mountain pass. The Roman aqueduct and the Alcázar de Segovia are essential stops. Campsites nearby offer pitches with views of the Sierra. From there, take a side trip to La Granja de San Ildefonso and its spectacular fountains.
Soria is 190 km northeast of Madrid, set along the banks of the River Duero. Visit the Monasterio de San Juan de Duero and the Romanesque church of Santo Domingo. The route via the N-II crosses open countryside, easy for larger vehicles. Quiet campervan spots dot the surrounding Castilian landscape.
Córdoba is roughly 390 km south of Madrid, home to the Mezquita-Catedral and the historic Judería quarter. The A-4 motorway passes through La Mancha, where you can stop in Valdepeñas for wine tasting. Motorhome parking is available along the Guadalquivir riverbank. From Córdoba, it is easy to reach Medina Azahara, the 10th-century ruined city.
Cuenca is 150 km east of Madrid, famous for its Casas Colgadas — hanging houses perched above the Huécar gorge. The Museo de Arte Abstracto Español is well worth a visit. The drive crosses open plains, easy going in a motorhome. Stop in Tarancón for a break at the halfway point along the route.
Valencia is around 300 km southeast of Madrid. The Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias and the Mercado Central are highlights. Break the journey in Requena to explore its vineyards. Coastal campsites offer pitches right by the Mediterranean — a perfect spot to park your campervan for a few relaxing days by the sea.

Around Madrid you will find campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Most are located in the Sierra de Guadarrama or along the main access roads to the capital, offering pitches with electrical hook-ups, sanitary facilities and often swimming pools. Several mountain sites combine a natural setting with easy access to the city, so you can mix culture and relaxation without any hassle.
Central Madrid operates a low-emission zone called Madrid 360, which restricts access for larger vehicles. It is best to park on supervised lots on the outskirts and take the Metro into the centre. Overnight stays in a motorhome on public roads are not permitted, but designated areas on the city fringe do allow it. Watch out for height restrictions in underground car parks, which are often too low for campervans.
Todo genial
New motorhome. Owner helpful and understanding. Pickup and drop-off possible really close to the airport. Recommend.

Campervan fidèle à l'annonce et Martin est disponible et sympa.
Magnifique. If Stephane says you’ll have everything you need, trust him. You will. And in the best condition. Everything is top notch. Stephane is incredibly helpful, respectful and polite. He is like a tour guide. The van? Exceptional . Great engine, great consumption. Comfortable. Clean as new. He told me “ all you have to do is hit the road”. I did. And thanks to him and his camper van, I am not exaggerating, I had a great experience. I even had some issues down the road (looking for camper services or so) and he gladly and promptly helped. Before, during and after the rental. And in several languages! (I’ve met people that avoids renting in a different country because of the language barriers. You will not even get that) I ran out of stars for him and the experience.
Excellente location avec Benoît ! Très bonne communication, ponctuel et surtout très soigneux avec le van. Le véhicule a été rendu propre et en parfait état. Je recommande à 100% !
