The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
The Comunidad de Madrid is home to over 3,000 hectares of protected parkland within the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, making it one of the few European capital regions where alpine landscapes sit less than an hour from a major city centre. From the Royal Palace of Madrid and the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial to the medieval walls of Buitrago del Lozoya and the university town of Alcalá de Henares — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — the region packs centuries of history into a compact area. Madrid city to El Escorial is roughly 55 km, while the drive north from the capital to the mountain village of Rascafría covers around 95 km, winding through pine forests and granite peaks. The road network fans out from the centre like a wheel, so a campervan gives you the freedom to explore both the bustling capital and the quieter sierra towns at your own pace. Mountain passes through the Guadarrama range are well-maintained and suitable for motorhome travel, with plenty of service areas along the main routes. Whether you want to wander the art museums of the Paseo del Prado or wake up beside a reservoir in the Sierra Norte, the Comunidad de Madrid rewards those who take their time. Through Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across the region, choosing from a wide range of campervans and motorhomes that suit every budget and group size.
The Comunidad de Madrid enjoys long, warm seasons that make spring and autumn especially rewarding for campervan travel. May brings the Fiestas de San Isidro, Madrid's patron saint celebrations, with open-air concerts and traditional events across the capital. September and October offer comfortable temperatures for exploring the Sierra de Guadarrama on foot or by motorhome, with fewer visitors on the roads. Summer is the most popular season, so we recommend booking early on Yescapa to secure the best choice of vehicles from local owners. Peer-to-peer hire often means more competitive pricing, particularly outside peak months. Winter in the Comunidad de Madrid is mild in the lowlands and crisp in the mountains — ideal for a quieter getaway.

The Comunidad de Madrid offers a good selection of campsites spread from the outskirts of the capital to the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama. Most sites cater to both campervans and motorhomes, with electrical hook-ups, fresh water points, and waste disposal facilities as standard. Mountain campsites in the north of the region provide a cooler retreat in summer, while sites closer to Madrid city give easy access to museums, markets, and nightlife.
The Comunidad de Madrid has a radial motorway network centred on the capital, with six main autopistas (A-1 to A-6) fanning outward. Most regional motorways are toll-free, though some stretches of radial toll roads (R-2, R-3, R-4, R-5) charge fees payable by card or electronic device. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3,500 kg are 90 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on conventional roads. Rest areas with services appear regularly along major routes. Larger vehicles should note height and weight restrictions on certain urban tunnels in central Madrid — signage is clear and well-marked in advance.
Great renter, absolutely recommended for everybody, correct, honest, happy people :) Thanks for coming.
Pedro was fantastic to rent the van from. The van was an old battler, got the job done when needed. Simple set up but everything you need to live the Portugal van life. Would recommend Pedro and any of his vans.
We absolutely loved Andrea's campervan! It offers incredible value for money, had everything we needed, and we could completely rely on it out on the road. Andrea herself is the absolute sweetest and was always available to help with whatever we needed—even going above and beyond beyond just campervan matters. Highly recommend!
Urlop udany w 100%, kamper super przygotowany, wyposażony we wszystkie niezbędne udogodnienia, działa rewelacyjnie. Rocio bardzo komunikatywna, przygotowała przewodnik po wszystkich elementach dotyczących użytkowania, eksploatacji kampera. Wycieczka po Andaluzji przewyższyła oczekiwania.
Nicolas and his family returned the camper just as they had taken it. They were also very nice. Perfecto 👌
Ótima! O Alexandre e a Marisa são incansáveis. Fizeram de tudo para termos a melhor experiência possível. A carrinha está impecável e conduz sem nenhum problema. O processo foi muito fácil e a comunicação fluiu facilmente.
