Kiel's Hörn Campus sits at the end of the longest fjord in Germany, the Kieler Förde, stretching 17 kilometres inland from the Baltic Sea. As the capital of Schleswig-Holstein, Kiel blends maritime heritage with a lively cultural scene. Stroll along the Kiellinie waterfront promenade for views of passing ferries and sailing boats, then head to the Zoologisches Museum Kiel to discover marine biology collections dating back over a century. The Schifffahrtsmuseum Fischhalle on the harbour tells the story of the city's seafaring past, while the Botanischer Garten der Universität Kiel offers a peaceful green escape with more than 14,000 plant species. For a change of scenery, Laboe is just 18 km north along the fjord, home to the Naval Memorial and U-995 submarine, and the sandy beaches of Eckernförde lie roughly 30 km to the west. Kiel's flat coastal terrain and well-maintained roads make it easy to navigate in a larger vehicle, and dedicated motorhome service points are dotted around the region. Whether you are planning a weekend by the water or a longer Baltic coast tour, hiring a campervan through Yescapa connects you with local owners who know the area and can share tips on the best waterfront spots. A campervan gives you the freedom to follow the coastline at your own pace, stopping wherever the sea breeze calls.
Kiel truly comes alive during Kieler Woche (Kiel Week) in late June, one of the world's largest sailing events, drawing millions of visitors with regattas, live music, and harbour festivities. Summer from June to August is ideal for coastal drives and open-air events, with long daylight hours perfect for exploring by campervan. Spring and early autumn bring quieter roads and comfortable temperatures for touring the Baltic shoreline. Booking a motorhome through Yescapa during the shoulder months often means more choice from local owners and friendlier rates. For Kieler Woche, we recommend reserving your Kiel hire early to secure the best vehicle for the festivities.

About 130 km south of Kiel, Hamburg awaits with the Elbphilharmonie and the Speicherstadt warehouse district. Stop at Plöner See for a lakeside break, then explore Hamburg's HafenCity. Campsites on the city outskirts offer good connections to the centre – ideal for a campervan adventure.
Just 28 km north-west of Kiel, Eckernförde greets you with a long sandy beach and a charming old town. Visit the Ostsee Info-Center at the harbour and try freshly smoked fish along the promenade. Campervan pitches right by the beach make this short trip wonderfully easy to organise.
The island of Fehmarn lies roughly 65 km south-east of Kiel and is reached via the Fehmarnsund Bridge. Explore the Meereszentrum Fehmarn in Burg and the Flügge Lighthouse on the west coast. The island offers wide roads and several motorhome pitches with views over the Baltic Sea.
Around 160 km north-west, this trip takes you through the Schlei region to Flensburg. Visit the Viking Museum Haithabu near Schleswig and wander along Flensburg's Rum Mile. Roads along the Schlei are quiet and offer plenty of overnight spots for your campervan.
About 250 km south-west, this route leads through Husum and across the Hindenburgdamm to the island of Sylt. Explore the Wadden Sea at Westerhever with its famous lighthouse and enjoy the dune landscape of Kampen. Motorhome pitches on Sylt are best booked ahead during peak season.
Roughly 310 km south-east, Rügen is Germany's largest island. Drive along the coast through Wismar and Stralsund, then visit the chalk cliffs in Jasmund National Park and Cape Arkona. Coastal roads are well maintained and campsites on Rügen offer pitches for every vehicle size.

Around Kiel you will find campsites right on the Baltic coast and in the green countryside. Many sites offer pitches for motorhomes and campervans with electric hook-ups, fresh water, modern sanitary facilities and Wi-Fi. Some are just a short walk from the beach, while others enjoy a peaceful lakeside setting. There is no campsite in Kiel's city centre, but surrounding sites are easy to reach and make a relaxed base for day trips.
Kiel offers several car parks suitable for larger vehicles. Watch out for height restrictions in multi-storey car parks – many are too low for motorhomes. Overnight stays in your vehicle are generally not permitted on public car parks unless they are designated motorhome areas. It is best to use official pitches or nearby campsites for overnight parking.
Amazing experience! Rocio was great and really explained everything and sorted any doubts we had throughout the booking and before and during the trip. The camper is in amazing condition, really comfortable, and as decribed. Definitely would recommend!!!!
Joas and his friends were really nice and left the camper in a really good condition. Even the young age were really mature and everything was perfect and left really nice stuff for future renters ☺️ Thank you guys ☺️
Everything was perfect from the first contact, to the final moment. José is a very attentive owner, and is very available to help with questions and information.
Everything went very smoothly. The owner was very helpful and explained everything to us. We also used the airport transfer both ways.
Trip was great, Davide was easy to work worth and always responsive. Was crazy hot and sleeping was tough given the heat but overall everything worked great, van was easy to drive and gave us some amazing experiences in the Dolomites.
This couple were a pleasure to host. They were friendly, respectful, and took great care of the van throughout their trip. Communication was easy, and they returned the van clean and in excellent condition. Overall, they were lovely guests, and I'd be happy to host them again anytime. Highly recommended!
