Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Georgia

Georgia — a region worth exploring

Georgia's legendary Georgian Military Highway stretches 212 km from Tbilisi to the Russian border, climbing through the Greater Caucasus mountains to the Jvari Pass at 2,379 metres above sea level. This compact country packs an extraordinary range of landscapes into just 69,700 square kilometres, from the subtropical Black Sea coastline around Batumi to the glacier-topped peaks of Svaneti. The 105 km drive from Kutaisi to Mestia takes you from lush lowland valleys into one of Europe's highest inhabited regions, where medieval stone towers dot the hillsides. In the east, the Kakheti wine region is home to over 8,000 years of winemaking tradition, with the town of Sighnaghi perched on a hilltop overlooking the Alazani Valley. Tbilisi itself blends ancient sulphur baths in the Abanotubani district with a modern skyline, while the cave city of Uplistsikhe, dating back to the first millennium BC, sits just 75 km to the west. Travelling by campervan gives you the flexibility to follow winding mountain roads at your own pace, stopping wherever the scenery calls. A motorhome is ideal for families wanting comfort on longer routes between regions. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners across Georgia, choosing from a range of vehicles suited to everything from coastal drives to high-altitude adventures. The peer-to-peer model means competitive prices and personal recommendations from people who know these roads best.

Best time to visit

The best time to hire a campervan in Georgia runs from May to October, when mountain passes like the Abuli Pass and routes into Tusheti are fully open. June brings the Tbilisoba-style wine festivals across Kakheti, and the Batumi Music Fest lights up the coast in July. Summer is peak season, so booking your motorhome early on Yescapa gives you the widest choice from local owners at fair peer-to-peer prices. Autumn is equally rewarding — September and October offer warm days in the lowlands and grape harvest celebrations across Georgia's wine country, with fewer travellers on the road.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Georgia

Georgia has no motorway toll system, so all major roads are free to use. The main east–west highway (E60) connects Tbilisi to Kutaisi and on to the Black Sea coast, and is generally well surfaced. Speed limits for motorhomes and campervans follow standard vehicle rules: 60 km/h in towns, 80 km/h on open roads, and 100 km/h on dual carriageways. Mountain routes such as the road to Mestia or Tusheti are often single-lane, unpaved, and may require a vehicle with good ground clearance. Rest areas are limited outside major routes, so plan fuel and supply stops in advance.

We had an outstanding experience renting from Antonio and his family. Antonio and his son Ricardo provided clear, thorough instructions on operating the camper, ensuring we felt confident from the start. Throughout the trip, Ricardo's communication and support were excellent—always responsive and helpful. At the end of the rental, their evaluation was fair, transparent, and reasonable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a smooth camper rental experience!

Amazing trip! I travelled with a friend all around the Dolomites in Nicola's van. It was incredible, it couldn't have gone better. The van is fully equipped with everything you need. We did feel a little cold the first night so we got some blankets at a local shop to upgrade the ones available in the van. The only thing worth mentioning is that the pick-up/drop-off location is a bit inconvenient (relatively far away), but for the price and quality, it's definitely worth it. The hosts were super attentive to everything we needed. Thank you!
