Why choose Atlanta for your road trip

Atlanta — a city worth exploring

Atlanta's Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park welcomes over a million visitors each year to the very neighbourhood where the civil rights leader was born in 1929. The city spreads across the rolling foothills of the Piedmont Plateau, with tree-lined streets that have earned it the nickname "the city in a forest." Explore the Georgia Aquarium, one of the largest aquariums in the world, then head to the World of Coca-Cola for an interactive look at the iconic brand's history. The Atlanta BeltLine, a 35 km loop of multi-use trails, connects dozens of parks and neighbourhoods and is ideal for a leisurely stroll or cycle. History enthusiasts will appreciate the Atlanta History Center in Buckhead, which sits on 13 hectares of gardens and historic buildings. Chattanooga is roughly 150 km to the northwest, making it a rewarding day trip, while Savannah lies about 400 km to the southeast along the coast. The surrounding roads are generally wide and well-maintained, with plenty of space for larger vehicles, though downtown streets can be busier during rush hours. With Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from a local owner in the Atlanta area, often at more flexible rates than traditional rental agencies. It is a practical way to set off on a road trip through Georgia and beyond, with pick-up points spread across the metro region.

Best time to visit

Atlanta is enjoyable throughout the year. Spring brings the Atlanta Dogwood Festival in April, filling Piedmont Park with art, music and food. Autumn is equally appealing, with comfortable temperatures and the colourful foliage of North Georgia just a short drive away. Summer is the liveliest season, perfect for exploring the BeltLine and outdoor attractions — booking your campervan early through Yescapa is a smart move, as peer-to-peer pricing can help you find great value even during peak months. Winter offers a quieter pace, ideal for museum visits and lower campsite demand across the region.

Most are located in the surrounding countryside and state parks rather than in the city centre, giving you easy access to nature while staying close to urban attractions. Where to park your motorhome

Parking a larger vehicle in Atlanta requires a bit of planning. Many downtown lots have height restrictions, so check clearance before entering. Overnight street parking for motorhomes and campervans is generally not permitted in residential areas. For day visits, several large surface lots near major attractions can accommodate taller vehicles — always confirm dimensions in advance. Outside the city centre, park-and-ride facilities along MARTA rail lines offer a practical alternative.

  • Lot 29 - Georgia World Congress Center, 1km west — Large surface lot near downtown attractions with space for oversized vehicles. Convenient for visiting the Georgia Aquarium and Centennial Olympic Park.
  • Turner Field Parking Lot, 3km south — Open-air lot south of downtown with generous clearance. Useful for accessing the Summerhill neighbourhood and nearby eateries.
  • Piedmont Park Parking, 5km northeast — Surface parking on the edge of Piedmont Park in Midtown. Good base for exploring the BeltLine and the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

Feeling right at home Traveling across Portugal with Koda was a perfect, unique, and wonderful experience ☺️ Carina and Rafaela met us right at the airport and explained everything about the van—covering every detail clearly and effectively. We had never taken an off-the-cuff trip like this before; without any set plans, we drove all the way to Sagres, navigating easily through narrow roads, campsites, and stunning beaches 😍 Its compact size makes it comfortable to drive almost immediately, allowing for effortless maneuvering even on narrow roads, whether driving uphill or on light off-road terrain. The van is fully equipped: it has kitchenware, a sink, a convenient handheld shower, and even a solar shower, plus two camping chairs and an easy-to-assemble table. The bed is incredibly comfortable, and when not in use, it converts into a small bench. It was easy and delightful to feel right at home during this vacation; we can’t wait to return to Portugal to explore the north with Koda 🧡
