Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Florida

Florida — a region worth exploring

Florida's Overseas Highway stretches 182 km across 44 bridges connecting the mainland to Key West, making it one of the most remarkable driving routes in the United States. From the white-sand beaches of Clearwater to the vast wetlands of Everglades National Park, this southeastern state offers an extraordinary range of landscapes to explore on four wheels. The distance from Jacksonville in the north to Miami in the south covers roughly 540 km, while a drive from Pensacola on the western panhandle to St Augustine on the Atlantic coast spans about 480 km. Along the way, you can visit the Kennedy Space Center on the Space Coast, wander the art deco streets of Miami's South Beach, or paddle through the mangrove trails of Ten Thousand Islands. Florida's flat terrain and well-maintained roads make it particularly welcoming for campervan and motorhome travel, with wide lanes and plentiful rest stops throughout the state. Coastal routes hug both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic, giving you the freedom to chase sunsets on one shore and sunrises on the other. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across Florida, choosing from a wide variety of vehicles to match your trip. Whether you want a compact campervan for a Keys adventure or a spacious motorhome for a family tour, peer-to-peer rental means more choice and a personal touch from people who know the region best.

Best time to visit

Florida is a year-round destination, with each season bringing its own appeal. Spring is ideal for a campervan trip, with comfortable temperatures and events like the Sunfest music festival in West Palm Beach each May. Winter, from December to February, draws visitors to southern Florida for warm days and excellent wildlife spotting in the Everglades. Summer is peak family season, and booking early on Yescapa lets you take advantage of competitive peer-to-peer pricing from local owners. Autumn brings quieter roads and lower campsite demand, perfect for a relaxed motorhome tour along the Gulf Coast or through northern Florida's state parks.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Florida

Florida's highways are toll-heavy, with major routes like the Florida Turnpike, the Homestead Extension, and portions of Interstate 4 requiring payment. SunPass is the electronic toll system, and we recommend picking one up or using a rental-compatible toll-by-plate option. Speed limits for motorhomes and larger vehicles are generally 105 km/h on interstates and 90 km/h on rural highways. Florida's roads are flat and well-signposted, with frequent rest areas offering facilities. Vehicles over 2.6 metres wide may face restrictions on certain bridges in the Keys, so check your dimensions before heading south.

What our users say about our campervans and motorhomes in Florida

We picked up the van without any issues. The van matched the description and pictures and was very nicely decorated. The owners were lovely and even let our dog play with theirs whilst we unpacked our stuff into the van. We spent 2 weeks in the van and had no issues. It was the perfect size for 2 people and a dog. There was no issues dropping the van off after our trip. We would definitely recommend!

Super friendly guests! Everything went smoothly from the beginning to the end of the rental. They treated the campervan with great care, and communication was always easy and pleasant. We'd be delighted to welcome them back anytime they decide to visit Andalucía again.

100% recommend. Such a kind and welcoming family. Everything was explained in detail when we arrived so we understood how everything worked onboard. The RV itself is stunning and has everything you need included. We were 2 adults and 2 kids (8 and 4) that spent 2 weeks traveling through northern Spain. Plenty of sleeping space, kitchen was large enough to prepare meals indoors if need be. The engine was powerful enough through the mountains and the size of the RV we had no problems navigating the narrow mountain roads and town. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

We had the best trip with the van "Fiona" we rented by Cuca - the most amazing host. There was no problems with the van, and it was driving great for an old car. The van also had everything we needed like a portabel shower, a sink with running water, a cooler and a much needed parasol. Cuca recommended the best beaches and places, and responded quickly to any questions we had. We cant recommend Cuca and the van enough!
