Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Eastern Austria

Eastern Austria — a region worth exploring

Eastern Austria stretches across 23,555 square kilometres and is home to the country's only steppe lake, Neusiedler See, a UNESCO World Heritage site shared with Hungary. The region encompasses three distinct federal states — Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland — each offering a different flavour of Austrian life. From the grand architecture of Stephansdom in Vienna to the terraced vineyards of the Wachau Valley, another UNESCO-listed landscape, the variety is remarkable. The distance from Vienna to Eisenstadt, the capital of Burgenland, is just 60 km, while a drive from Vienna north-west to Krems an der Donau covers around 80 km, opening up the Danube corridor and its cycling paths, riverside campsites, and historic abbeys like Stift Melk. Flat plains in the Marchfeld and gentle hills in the Weinviertel make the region particularly welcoming for larger vehicles, with well-maintained roads and plenty of space to park up. Whether you want to explore thermal spas in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg, taste wine in Rust, or watch birds at Seewinkel National Park, a campervan gives you the freedom to move at your own pace. Motorhome travellers will appreciate the network of stellplätze and campsites spread across the region. Through Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across eastern Austria, choosing from a wide range of campervans and motorhomes that suit your group size, budget, and travel style.

Best time to visit

Eastern Austria is wonderful from April through to October. Spring brings the Wachau apricot blossom season in April, when the valley turns pink and local festivals celebrate the harvest. Summer is ideal for lakeside camping around Neusiedler See, and September marks the start of the wine harvest across Burgenland, with events like the Weinherbst festival in Rust. Booking a campervan through Yescapa during the shoulder months of May or September often means more competitive peer-to-peer pricing and quieter campsites. Winter travel is also possible, with Vienna's Christmas markets running from mid-November through December, though campsite availability is more limited.

Frequently asked questions

What our users say about our campervans and motorhomes in Eastern Austria

Radosław

It was our first time in campervan and we got everything we needed. The car was comfortable, economical and fully equipped. We spent an unforgettable week during the total eclipse, although it was almost impossible to find available space on camping sites at that time. But the car batteries did great job so we could park even without the electricity access. The car used 8,9 l/100 km even though we almost didn't use highways. Carlos was very nice and helpful, he made our trip convenient and safe. We definitely recommend Carlos and his vehicle!

There was a small hiccup at first with the reservation, but it was solved quickly and from there on it was total bliss. The motorhome is absolutely top-notch, and the service was really warm and friendly. Despite the language barrier (we didn't speak much Spanish and they didn't speak much English), everything went very smoothly. So there's no need to worry if you don't speak their language — they have the means and experience to handle it. At the handover they walked us through the motorhome and gave us some camping tips and tricks, which made our trip very enjoyable. A big plus was the air conditioner in the living quarters.

Fantastic Family Experience with a Wonderful Host! We are a family of four and could not be more satisfied with our experience. The owner, Martial, was exceptionally helpful throughout the entire process. Before booking, he answered all of our questions promptly and consistently catered to our needs. During our trip, he went out of his way to check in on us and offered fantastic local advice and recommendations on places to visit. The pickup and drop-off processes were both seamless and efficient. The van itself is in excellent condition, extremely well-maintained, spotless, and fully equipped with everything you might need for a great trip—with practically everything working perfectly. We were also deeply touched by Martial’s kindness in picking us up at the airport, which made the start of our trip so much easier.

We had a fantastic family road trip in Carlos’s motorhome, visiting Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Schwarzwald, and Europa-Park. The vehicle had a few minor scratches from previous rentals and was due for a routine service, but Carlos assured us upfront not to worry about them, and it didn't affect our trip at all. The motorhome was well-equipped—having the onboard air grill was an especially nice touch! Pickup and drop-off were quick, straightforward, and hassle-free. We highly recommend Carlos and his motorhome.

The vehicle picture are old and today's vehicle condition are quite different; there are signs of rust on the bodywork and early signs of mold on the inner tent of the upper bed; few scratches to the vehicle are present but they do no demine its functionalities. Despite the fact that everything works, It has been frustrating to pull and push the rear seat back especially at the beginning of the journey, then we get it right with the experience; I personally recommend having the fold/unfold mechanism inspected and fixed. Anyhow, it allowed us to have a wonderful vacation and the robust engine never left us unsupported. Antonio is very supportive and responsive; he helped us with the logistics and gave us a few tips to start the travel.

This was our first experience with a camper. Aurora and Cristian were very helpful and the rental process was very easy and fast. The camper is quite old, but is very well maintained and fully functional. I would recommend this camper. We didn't had any issues during our trip.
