Colorado stretches across 104,185 square miles of the Southern Rocky Mountains, with over 50 peaks rising above 14,000 feet — more than any other US state. From the red sandstone formations of Garden of the Gods near Colorado Springs to the ancient cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park, the landscape shifts dramatically as you travel. The drive from Denver to Durango covers roughly 540 km along some of the most rewarding roads in the American West, while the 77 km stretch between Ouray and Silverton on the Million Dollar Highway climbs through tight switchbacks and sheer canyon walls. Colorado's high-altitude terrain means you can wake up beside an alpine lake one morning and park among desert mesas the next. Rocky Mountain National Park draws visitors to Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuous paved road in the country, while the Great Sand Dunes National Park offers a surreal contrast of towering dunes backed by snow-capped mountains. For campervan travellers, the state's well-maintained network of scenic byways makes route planning straightforward, and many campgrounds cater to both compact campervans and larger motorhomes. With Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across Colorado, choosing from a wide range of vehicles suited to mountain passes or desert plains. The peer-to-peer model means more flexibility on pick-up locations and pricing, so your Colorado road trip starts on your own terms.
Colorado's prime campervan season runs from June to September, when Trail Ridge Road and most high-altitude passes are fully open. The Telluride Bluegrass Festival in June draws music lovers to the San Juan Mountains, while September's Oktoberfest in Denver adds a festive stop to any itinerary. Summer is the most popular period, so we recommend booking your vehicle on Yescapa early to secure the best choice. Shoulder months like May and October offer quieter roads and autumn colour across the aspens. Yescapa's peer-to-peer pricing often makes these off-peak windows especially good value for a motorhome hire in Colorado.

Colorado offers a fantastic range of campsites spread from the Rocky Mountain high country to the western plateau. Whether you are travelling in a compact campervan or a full-size motorhome, you will find pitches with electric hook-ups, water connections, and dump stations at many state and national park campgrounds. Facilities often include hot showers, toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables, with some sites also providing Wi-Fi and camp shops.
Colorado's interstate highways are toll-free, though the E-470 beltway around Denver and sections of I-25 near Denver use electronic tolling via ExpressToll transponders. Speed limits for motorhomes and larger vehicles are typically 105 km/h on interstates and 90 km/h on rural highways, though posted limits can vary. Mountain passes like Loveland Pass and Independence Pass may restrict vehicles over a certain length — always check signage before ascending. Rest areas are well spaced along I-70 and I-25, and many include RV-friendly parking bays with extended pull-through spaces.
Alles super, Fahrzeug, Vermieter und Ablauf!
We had the best trip with the van "Fiona" we rented by Cuca - the most amazing host. There was no problems with the van, and it was driving great for an old car. The van also had everything we needed like a portabel shower, a sink with running water, a cooler and a much needed parasol. Cuca recommended the best beaches and places, and responded quickly to any questions we had. We cant recommend Cuca and the van enough!
Everything went perfectly, the van was just what we wanted for our trip, would do it again.
Great
Nous avons vécu une expérience formidable, tant avec le van qu'avec Hervé et Muriel. Je recommande vivement leur véhicule : il est très confortable, facile à conduire et parfaitement équipé pour passer de superbes vacances. Encore merci pour tout.
