From sleek A-class models to versatile coachbuilts and low-profiles, there’s a motorhome for every adventure—whether you need a compact getaway for two or a spacious multi-berth for the whole family.
The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
Centro is home to Portugal's oldest university, the University of Coimbra, founded in 1290 and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose Joanine Library holds over 200,000 volumes. This diverse region stretches from the Atlantic coastline around Nazaré — famous for its record-breaking surf waves — inland to the Serra da Estrela, mainland Portugal's highest mountain range peaking at 1,993 metres. The distance from the coastal city of Aveiro to the mountain town of Covilhã is roughly 190 km, while Coimbra to the walled village of Monsanto covers about 220 km, giving you a sense of how much ground there is to explore. Along the way you can wander through the Mata Nacional do Buçaco, a centuries-old forest surrounding a royal palace, or visit the Roman ruins at Conimbriga, one of the best-preserved archaeological sites on the Iberian Peninsula. Centro's road network is well suited to campervan travel, with quieter inland routes winding through pine-covered hills and river valleys, and coastal roads linking charming fishing towns. Whether you fancy a motorhome for a family adventure or a compact campervan for two, Yescapa connects you with local owners across Centro who share their vehicles peer-to-peer, so you can hire exactly what fits your trip and set off at your own pace.
The best time to hire a campervan in Centro runs from May to October, when long days and warm temperatures make both coastal and mountain routes a pleasure. June is ideal for catching the Festa de São João in Porto's neighbouring regions, while the Festas da Rainha Santa in Coimbra every even-numbered July fills the city with processions and fireworks. Spring and early autumn offer quieter roads and excellent availability at campsites across Centro. Through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, you can often find competitive rates outside peak summer months, and booking a few weeks ahead gives you the widest choice of motorhomes and campervans from local owners.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 150 km route through Centro links the Monastery of Batalha to the Convent of Christ in Tomar, with a stop at the castle of Ourém. Allow 3 to 6 days to explore at a relaxed pace, with well-signed campsite options along the way for your campervan.
Covering 350 km, this route begins at the lagoon channels of Aveiro and climbs into the Serra da Estrela. Over 5 to 8 days you can visit Viseu's historic centre and the glacial valley of Zêzere. A motorhome handles the mountain roads comfortably, with service areas en route.
Wind through 400 km of Centro's lush interior over 6 to 8 days. From the thermal town of Luso, head to the schist villages of Góis and Piódão, tucked into forested hillsides. Campervan travellers will find quiet rural campsites and riverside stops throughout.
Follow 180 km of Centro's Atlantic shoreline from Peniche to Figueira da Foz over 3 to 5 days. Stop at the medieval town of Óbidos and the surf beaches of Nazaré. Coastal campsites with full hook-ups make this route ideal for both campervans and motorhomes.
This 550 km circuit takes 7 to 11 days and covers Centro from coast to border. Start in Coimbra, drive through the Dão wine region near Nelas, reach the fortified village of Almeida, then return via Castelo Branco. Plenty of motorhome service points along the way.
A 600 km journey over 10 to 15 days exploring Centro's eastern borderlands. From Guarda, Portugal's highest city, travel south through Monsanto and Idanha-a-Velha before looping back via Fundão. A campervan suits the narrow village roads, and wild camping spots are plentiful.

Centro offers a wide spread of campsites, from beachfront parks along the Atlantic coast to quieter spots nestled in the Serra da Estrela foothills. Most sites provide electric hook-ups, water points and waste disposal suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. Coastal parks tend to fill earlier in summer, so booking ahead is worthwhile. Inland, you will find smaller municipal sites with basic facilities and a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for exploring Centro's forests and historic villages.
Centro's main motorways — the A1 linking Lisbon to Porto and the A25 crossing east towards Spain — are toll roads. Most tolls are electronic, so you will need a Via Verde transponder or register your number plate for post-payment. Motorhomes over 3,500 kg fall into a higher toll class and pay increased rates. The general speed limit on motorways for vehicles under 3,500 kg is 120 km/h, dropping to 100 km/h for heavier motorhomes. Rest areas with fuel, toilets and parking appear regularly along major routes, and many have spaces suitable for larger vehicles.
Great experience, I heartily recommend Dani and his lively van! We had a trip in the mountains and it was lovely.
Had a really great trip thanks to Mireia and her van! The whole process was great, communication was brilliant throughout, and the van had everything I needed. Mireia was amazing to deal with and went above and beyond to make sure everything with the van and my trip went smoothly. Would rent again in a heartbeat!
We had a great experience with Sharon. She was friendly, helpful and very transparent, clearly showing us all the existing damages during pickup. The camper was well equipped, and her list of places to visit and overnight spots was extremely helpful. The drop-off was also very smooth, and Sharon was flexible with the return time. We really enjoyed our trip and would definitely recommend her! 😊
Great renter, absolutely recommended for everybody, correct, honest, happy people :) Thanks for coming.
Pedro was fantastic to rent the van from. The van was an old battler, got the job done when needed. Simple set up but everything you need to live the Portugal van life. Would recommend Pedro and any of his vans.
We absolutely loved Andrea's campervan! It offers incredible value for money, had everything we needed, and we could completely rely on it out on the road. Andrea herself is the absolute sweetest and was always available to help with whatever we needed—even going above and beyond beyond just campervan matters. Highly recommend!
