Campania's Amalfi Coast stretches across 50 kilometres of narrow, winding road carved into cliffs above the Tyrrhenian Sea, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. This southern Italian region packs an extraordinary range of experiences into a compact area — from the archaeological ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, to the wild mountain trails of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park. Naples, the regional capital, sits just 250 km south of Rome, making Campania an easy starting point for a road trip through southern Italy. Head south from Naples and within 55 km you reach Paestum, home to three remarkably preserved Greek temples dating back to the 6th century BC. The coastline offers dramatic driving with views over the islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida, while the interior reveals rolling hills, chestnut forests, and thermal springs around towns like Contursi Terme. Campania suits both compact campervans for navigating tighter coastal roads and larger motorhomes for exploring the broader inland routes. With Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across Campania, choosing from a wide variety of vehicles based near Naples, Salerno, or Caserta. This peer-to-peer approach means competitive prices and personal recommendations from people who know the region's best routes and overnight spots firsthand.
Campania enjoys a long travel season, with April through October offering warm, dry conditions ideal for a campervan trip. Spring is particularly rewarding — the Maggio dei Monumenti festival in Naples each May opens historic palaces and churches usually closed to the public. September brings the Festa di San Gennaro in Naples, a lively celebration with processions and local food. Summer is the most popular period along the coast, so booking your campervan or motorhome early on Yescapa gives you the best choice of vehicles from local owners at peer-to-peer prices. Autumn and winter are quieter, perfect for exploring Campania's archaeological sites and inland hill towns at a relaxed pace.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 100 km route through southern Campania links the ancient Greek temples of Paestum with the hilltop ruins of Velia. Allow 3–5 days to explore archaeological sites, swim at sandy beaches near Agropoli, and enjoy fresh mozzarella from local farms. Well-suited to campervans on quiet rural roads.
A 200 km loop through the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park over 4–6 days. Drive from Palinuro's sea caves to the medieval village of Roscigno Vecchia, with stops at Pertosa Caves. Campervans and motorhomes both handle these well-maintained Campania inland roads with ease.
Covering 120 km over 3–6 days, this iconic Campania route winds from Sorrento to Vietri sul Mare via Positano and Ravello. Compact campervans are recommended for the narrow SS163 road. Stop at lemon groves and enjoy panoramic viewpoints above the Tyrrhenian Sea.
This 300 km, 7–11 day journey covers the best of Campania — from the Royal Palace of Caserta to the ruins of Pompeii, then south along the coast to Sapri. A motorhome gives you comfort for longer stays, with well-spaced campsites along the entire route.
An 80 km route over 3–5 days exploring the volcanic landscape around Naples. Visit the Solfatara crater in Pozzuoli, hike Mount Vesuvius, and take a ferry from the port to Procida. A compact campervan is ideal for Campania's busy urban roads near the gulf.
Stretch across 250 km over 5–8 days through Campania's mountainous interior. From Avellino, pass through Irpinia's wine country to the Terminio-Cervialto massif and down to the Calore river valley. Both campervans and motorhomes suit these scenic, uncrowded mountain roads.

Campania offers a good spread of campsites from the busy coastal areas around Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast to quieter spots inland near the Cilento National Park. Most sites provide full hook-ups for campervans and motorhomes, along with modern shower blocks, laundry facilities, and Wi-Fi. Coastal campsites in Campania often include direct beach access and swimming pools, while inland options tend to offer more spacious pitches surrounded by olive groves and woodland.
Campania's main motorway is the A3 (Autostrada del Sole), connecting Naples to Salerno and continuing south towards Calabria. Tolls apply on most motorways and can be paid by cash, card, or Telepass electronic device at toll booths. Motorhomes and campervans over 3.5 tonnes are classified differently, with higher toll rates and a speed limit of 100 km/h on motorways compared to 130 km/h for cars. On secondary roads, the limit drops to 80 km/h for larger vehicles. Coastal roads such as the SS163 along the Amalfi Coast are narrow and have vehicle length restrictions — generally 10 metres maximum — so check your motorhome dimensions before planning that stretch.
Everything was great, guys were super helpful. There was small issue with yescapa whitch owners helpet to resolve fast enough.
Hi Sjoerd, thank you very much for booking our campervan and for taking such good care of it. It was a pleasure having you as our guests. See you next time, and enjoy the rest of your travels!
Home away from home 🫶🏽✨ The whole experience was amazing from start to finish, the van has absolutely everything you need to be off grid and free. Mariana was great to deal with, she checked in along the way to ensure everything was fine with the van. I would recommend this vehicle for a solo traveller as the bed up the top allowed so much space and freedom throughout the travels however the bed below was still comfortable to sleep on if you had 2 people. Would highly recommend renting this van! 10/10 xxx
Easy to comunicate with Luca, All was good in van. Gas stove and kitchen utensils are very good and you can cook decent meals, just have to watch out to dont run out of gas mid cooking. Just have to be careful with water.
Was an amazing experience, Antonio is a super chill guy very flexible and helpful. The car was great and had everything we needed it was an amazing holiday thank you very much!
Everything was great. The van was well equipped and had everything you need for a trip for two people. Martin was very helpful and communicative. Totally recommend!
