The Basque Country spans just 7,234 square kilometres yet packs in three distinct provinces — Álava, Biscay and Gipuzkoa — each with its own landscape and character. From the surf beaches of Mundaka to the vineyards of Rioja Alavesa, the region rewards slow travel like few others in Spain. Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum draws visitors from around the world, while the old town of Vitoria-Gasteiz, European Green Capital in 2012, offers leafy plazas and a beautifully preserved medieval quarter. The coastal drive from San Sebastián to Getaria covers roughly 25 km of dramatic cliffs and fishing villages, and heading inland from Bilbao to Vitoria-Gasteiz is only about 65 km through rolling green valleys. The Basque Country's compact size makes it ideal for campervan travel — you can wake up by the sea and be hiking in the Aizkorri-Aratz Natural Park by lunchtime. Mountain roads wind through the Urkiola Natural Park, while quieter routes lead to painted forests and rural caseríos. Whether you prefer a fully equipped motorhome or a nimble campervan, Yescapa connects you with local owners across the Basque Country who know the region inside out. Hiring through a peer-to-peer platform means a wider choice of vehicles, personal tips from owners, and the flexibility to start your trip from the city that suits you best.
The Basque Country enjoys a mild, green climate that suits campervan travel from spring right through to autumn. May and June bring warm days and the Bilbao BBK Live music festival in late June fills the city with energy. September is ideal for food lovers — San Sebastián hosts its Gastronomika congress, celebrating Basque cuisine at its finest. Summer is the busiest period along the coast, so booking your motorhome early on Yescapa gives you the best pick of vehicles from local owners, often at better rates than traditional hire. Autumn colours in the Basque interior are well worth the trip.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 120 km route hugs the Biscay coastline from Bilbao to Mundaka and on to Lekeitio. Expect rugged cliffs, surfing beaches and fresh seafood in tiny harbours. Three to five days lets you linger at each fishing village — perfect for a compact campervan.
A gentle 90 km loop through Rioja Alavesa, calling at Laguardia and the Marqués de Riscal winery in Elciego. Over three to six days you can pair wine tastings with walks among medieval villages. Quiet roads suit both campervans and motorhomes.
Cover 180 km from San Sebastián through Zarautz and Getaria before climbing inland to the Aizkorri-Aratz Natural Park. Four to seven days gives time for pintxo trails and mountain hikes. Well-signed roads and regular campsites make this route straightforward.
This 350 km circuit links Bilbao, Vitoria-Gasteiz and San Sebastián, crossing all three Basque provinces. Five to eight days lets you explore the Guggenheim, the old quarter of Vitoria-Gasteiz and La Concha beach. A motorhome with extra berths suits families well.
Stretch 400 km westward from San Sebastián along the Cantabrian coast through Bermeo and Castro Urdiales. Six to nine days allows detours to Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve and seaside towns. Coastal campsites welcome both campervans and motorhomes.
A 550 km adventure from Bilbao eastward through the Basque interior and into the Navarrese Pyrenees, passing Oñati and the Sanctuary of Arantzazu. Eight to thirteen days gives space for mountain walks and valley drives. Larger motorhomes should check pass widths in advance.

The Basque Country offers campsites spread from the Biscay coast to the green interior of Álava. Coastal sites near Mundaka and Zarautz put you within walking distance of surf beaches, while inland options close to Vitoria-Gasteiz sit among forests and farmland. Most sites provide electric hook-ups, hot showers, toilet blocks and dedicated motorhome service areas. Many also have laundry facilities and small shops, making longer campervan stays comfortable and easy to manage.
The Basque Country's motorway network is well maintained, with the AP-8 running along the coast and the AP-1 linking the interior. Most motorways charge tolls, payable by card or cash at barrier plazas. Motorhomes over 3,500 kg fall into a higher toll category, so keep your vehicle documents handy. Speed limits for motorhomes above 3,500 kg are 90 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on conventional roads. Rest areas with parking suitable for larger vehicles appear regularly along main routes, and signage is in both Spanish and Basque (Euskara).
Todo súper bien, furgo fantástica y totalmente equipada !
Everything amazing )
Simone and his partner were very nice and friendly, eager to get to know everything about the motorhome. They were very attentive and considerate during the handover, as well as easy to communicate with throughout their trip. They treated my motorhome with care and respect and certainly did their best to return it in the condition in which they received it. It was a pleasure having them as my guests, and I highly recommend them to other owners.
It was a perfect RV for our trip to see the solar eclipse. And Conrado is a very pleasant man to communicate with. I highly recommend him and his car 👍
