The Algarve stretches across 150 kilometres of Portugal's southern coastline, home to over 100 beaches and some of Europe's most recognisable rock formations, including the Benagil Sea Cave near Lagoa. From the lively marina town of Vilamoura to the peaceful wetlands of Ria Formosa Natural Park, this region packs extraordinary variety into a compact area — Faro to Sagres is just 113 km, while Faro to Tavira in the east covers a mere 36 km. The western coast around Cabo de São Vicente, mainland Europe's south-westernmost point, offers dramatic cliffs and wide open spaces, while the eastern Algarve unfolds into barrier islands and calm lagoons. Inland, the Serra de Monchique hills rise to 902 metres, providing cooler air and cork oak forests that feel a world away from the coast. Roads here are well-maintained and mostly flat along the shore, making the region ideal for both campervans and larger vehicles. Narrow lanes in hilltop villages like Silves and Monchique add character to any trip, though they reward a slower pace. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across the Algarve, choosing from a wide range of vehicles to match your travel style. This peer-to-peer approach means competitive prices and personal tips from people who know the region best.
The Algarve enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year, making it a fantastic destination across all seasons. Spring brings wildflowers to the Serra de Monchique and comfortable temperatures for coastal walks, while the Algarve International Music Festival in June and July fills towns like Faro and Lagos with live performances. Summer is the most popular season for campervan travel — book early on Yescapa to secure the best choice from local owners. Autumn is ideal for quieter beaches and warm sea temperatures that linger into November. Even winter offers mild days perfect for exploring Sagres or cycling the Ecovia do Litoral. Peer-to-peer hire through Yescapa often means better rates outside peak months.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Start in Faro and head east through the Ria Formosa Natural Park, stopping at Olhão's waterfront market and the quiet island beaches of Ilha de Tavira. Continue to the border town of Vila Real de Santo António. Around 180 km in total, this route suits campervans perfectly, with flat roads and well-spaced campsites along the way.
From Lagos, drive to the dramatic cliffs of Ponta da Piedade, then follow the coast north to Aljezur and the surf beaches of Arrifana and Monte Clérigo. Loop back via the Serra de Monchique. Around 120 km of scenic roads, ideal for a short campervan break in the Algarve's quieter western corner.
Traverse the entire Algarve coast from Vila Real de Santo António to Cabo de São Vicente, covering around 350 km. Stop at Tavira's Roman bridge, Faro's old town, the Benagil Sea Cave, and the fortress at Sagres. A motorhome-friendly route with plenty of service areas and campsites along the EN125 and A22.
Explore the Algarve beyond the beaches. Start in Loulé, visit the Moorish castle at Silves, climb to the thermal springs of Caldas de Monchique, and loop through the rural villages of Alte and Salir. Around 300 km of quieter roads through cork forests and citrus groves, with several campsites welcoming both campervans and motorhomes.
Link the Algarve with the wild Alentejo coast. From Faro, head west to Sagres, then north along the Rota Vicentina to Zambujeira do Mar and Porto Covo. Return inland through Odemira and Monchique. Around 500 km over 7 to 10 days, mixing Algarve sunshine with the Alentejo's rugged Atlantic scenery. Campsites are well-spaced along the route.
A comprehensive loop from Faro through the entire Algarve, up to Évora in the Alentejo, and back via the Guadiana river valley. Visit Tavira, Lagos, Sagres, Monchique, Beja, and Évora's Roman Temple. Around 600 km across diverse landscapes, this motorhome-friendly route includes well-equipped service areas and a mix of coastal and inland campsites.

The Algarve offers a wide selection of campsites spread from the eastern lagoons to the wild western coast. Coastal sites near Lagos and Sagres provide direct access to beaches, while inland options around Monchique sit among forested hills. Most campsites cater to both campervans and motorhomes, with electric hook-ups, service points, and modern shower blocks. Several sites along the Algarve coast also offer swimming pools, on-site restaurants, and shaded pitches under pine or carob trees.
The A22 (Via do Infante) runs the full length of the Algarve from the Spanish border near Vila Real de Santo António to Lagos, and it is a toll motorway. Tolls are electronic only — there are no cash booths, so you need to register your vehicle online or use an EasyToll device at the border. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are 100 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on national roads. The free alternative, the EN125, runs parallel to the A22 and passes through most towns, though it is slower. Coastal and inland roads are generally well-surfaced, but some routes near Cabo de São Vicente and through the Serra de Monchique feature tighter bends worth taking at a relaxed pace in larger vehicles.
Sofia and Joaqim were really lovely! We enjoyed our trip a lot. The van was clean and had everything that was listed. We had no troubles with anything, it was super easy, convenient and cosy place to stay. We can honestly recommend it. 🥰❤️
It was our first time traveling with a camper, and renting this one for our trip around Mallorca turned out to be an absolutely amazing and unforgettable experience that exceeded all our expectations. The camper was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Everything was well-maintained and thoughtfully equipped, which made our first camper trip easy and enjoyable. Communication with Gustavo was excellent from start to finish. He always responded very quickly, was friendly and helpful, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. He also shared some fantastic recommendations for places to visit and park around the island, which made our trip even better. We couldn't have asked for a better first camper experience and would highly recommend both the camper and Gustavo to anyone planning a trip to Mallorca. We would happily rent it again in the future!
It was perfect. The owner is a very nice guy who picked us up from Funchal to get to Machico and explained everything about the car. The car included everything that was needed for our roadtrip. The tent is spacious and the amenities were of good quality. Overall it was an amazing experience to enjoy the island this way!
Great communication from Gladys and great van! Thanks for making our trip seamless!
Nice car, friendly and helpful people
