Why choose Turin for your road trip

Turin — a city worth exploring

Torino's Mole Antonelliana, standing 167.5 metres tall, was the world's tallest brick building when completed in 1889 and now houses the National Museum of Cinema. The city sits at the confluence of the Dora Riparia and Po rivers, framed by the western Alps — a dramatic backdrop that shapes every journey in and out of the area. Wander through the Egyptian Museum (Museo Egizio), home to the largest collection of Egyptian antiquities outside Cairo, or explore the sprawling grounds of the Reggia di Venaria Reale, a UNESCO-listed royal residence just north of the centre. The Parco del Valentino stretches along the Po and offers green space ideal for a morning stroll before hitting the road. From Torino, the Langhe wine region is roughly 60 km south, while the French border at the Fréjus Tunnel lies about 95 km to the west — both easy drives in a campervan. The city's wide boulevards and ring-road system make navigating with a motorhome more straightforward than in many Italian cities. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner in the Torino area, which means flexible pick-up points across different neighbourhoods and honest tips on the best routes into the Alps or down to the Ligurian coast. It is a practical, personal way to start your next Italian road trip.

Best time to visit

Torino welcomes visitors comfortably from April through October. The Salone del Gusto / Terra Madre food festival, held every two years in autumn, draws food lovers from across Europe, while the Torino Film Festival each November fills the city with cinema fans. Summer is the busiest season for campervan travel — book early on Yescapa to lock in competitive peer-to-peer rates from local owners. Spring and early autumn bring pleasant driving temperatures and quieter campsites around the Langhe and Alpine valleys, making them ideal for a relaxed motorhome trip. Whenever you visit, Torino rewards the curious.

Top getaways from Turin

Turin is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways

Turin to the Sacra di San Michele and Susa Valley

85km northwest 2–4 days

Drive 85 km north-west from Turin along the Susa Valley to reach the Sacra di San Michele, a dramatic abbey perched at 962 metres. Continue to the fortified town of Exilles and its imposing fortress. The valley road is wide and well-maintained, comfortable for a motorhome, with several rest stops offering mountain views and fresh-water refill points along the way.

Turin to Milan

145km northeast 3–6 days

Cover the 145 km north-east from Turin to Milan along the A4 motorway. Break the journey at Novara to see its striking San Gaudenzio basilica dome, then continue to Milan for the Duomo, Navigli canals and the Pinacoteca di Brera. Several campsites on Milan's outskirts offer full hook-ups and metro connections, so you can park your campervan and explore the city centre car-free.

Turin to the Ligurian Coast

170km southeast 3–6 days

Head 170 km south-east from Turin towards the Ligurian coast and the city of Genoa. Along the way, stop in Acqui Terme for its natural hot springs and Roman ruins. In Genoa, visit the Acquario di Genova and stroll through the UNESCO-listed Strade Nuove. Coastal campsites near Nervi offer pitches with sea views — arrive early in summer to secure a spot for your motorhome.

Turin to Lake Garda

260km east 5–8 days

Travel 260 km east from Turin to Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake. Stop in Brescia to explore its Roman temple and Santa Giulia museum, then continue to Sirmione for its lakeside Scaliger Castle. The eastern shore towns of Bardolino and Lazise have well-equipped campsites with direct lake access. Wide roads around the lake make driving a campervan comfortable, with plenty of scenic pull-over spots.

Turin to the Langhe

60km south 1–4 days

Head 60 km south from Turin into the rolling Langhe hills, a UNESCO-listed wine landscape. Visit the town of Alba, famous for its white truffle fair, and stop in Barolo to tour its medieval castle and taste the region's celebrated wines. Campervan-friendly parking areas dot the smaller villages, making it easy to hop between cellars and trattorias at your own pace.

Turin to the Cinque Terre

300km south 5–8 days

Drive 300 km south from Turin to reach the Cinque Terre, five colourful fishing villages clinging to the Ligurian cliffs. Park your motorhome at La Spezia — the gateway town with dedicated RV areas — and take the regional train to Riomaggiore, Manarola and Vernazza. On the way down, detour through Portofino and the Tigullio Gulf. Campsites near Levanto offer full services and a quieter base for exploring the coast.

Turin has several dedicated parking areas for motorhomes and campervans. Overnight parking in a self-contained vehicle is generally permitted in designated areas, but always check local signage for time limits and size restrictions. The city centre has a limited traffic zone (ZTL), so we recommend parking on the outskirts and using public transport to reach the main sights. Most dedicated RV areas offer water, waste disposal and electricity for a small daily fee.

We had a superb long weekend trip in Gonçalo’s converted van and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Gonçalo was a very friendly owner and always responded promptly to all our questions, which made everything easy and stress-free from the beginning. The van came with everything we needed and was very well prepared for our trip. It was comfortable, practical, and perfectly suited for our family of four. Gonçalo was also incredibly helpful throughout, which we really appreciated. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend both Gonçalo and his van to anyone looking for a great family campervan experience.

Mathieu was easy to communicate with and flexible. The van is perfect- simple, well organized, and very comfortable for sleeping. Mathieu equips the kitchen with some basics, and 2 camping chairs- it is really nice.

We had a great Motorhome Experience in the Dordogne area in France! Guy’s motorhome had everything we needed for a comfortable and adventurous stay. A great kingsize bed (for a motorhome anyway…) and large fridge, warm water, heating everything is there. If you’re looking for a reliable modern motorhome rental , we highly recommend renting Guy’s motorhome. Marian & Wim.
